Rich Man, Poor Man,Beggar Man, Thief,Bitter, Bettor, No Tax Relief...Everyone is feeling a sense of entitlement this week - from the mayor's race in NYC to the recipients of government benefits to millionaire athletes caught up in gambling scandals. We welcome Wall Street Journal baseball writer Jared Diamond, who takes a break from covering the wonder that is Shohei Ohtani, to talk about his other beat, the world of legalized sports betting and why the NBA arrests may be the canary in a very deep coal mine.
Pastor Danny teaches on the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, where Jesus contrasts two lives - one of luxury and self-focus, the other of suffering and dependence on God.

The difference between being rich and poor could be as simple as one good deed. A five-dollar bill doesn't mean much here on earth—but if it's used to bless others, it has extreme value in heaven! On the other hand, $50,000 on earth is meaningless if it is used only for selfish reasons. If we have Christ, we are rich! Let's be like Him and bless others today!
Senior Pastor Christopher Chia gave a sermon based on the verses from James 4:13 to 5:11.
In the message, “Rich Man, Poor Man,” Pastor Jack Graham continues delving into the powerful encounters Jesus had with people in the New Testament. Text us here! Hershall, it is mighty good to have you here, as always, if you are here? We had another history making day here on the trash-cast. As we promised last week, we shared a new song writte... I mean, produced by Josh Smith as an intro. It will be a major billboard hit I am sure. Gen Z boy got some clarification on what a baker's dozen is and knowing his track record for math you can imagine how difficult it was to convey the concept. I also gave a heartfelt apology to Deacon Dustin over a recent win that I gave credit for but failed to give the percentage of the win... it was meaningful for him to get that apology. Although it did bring light to a major regression (big word for setback) in his walk with the Lord... not my apology, nor the win but the path in which he had to travel to win... well, you'll see. It's difficult to convey through typology (big word for typing). We had a Rich Man Poor Man segment that was a preacher's edition. It was disastrous but we made it. In the end I shared about an upcoming holiday that gained the ire (big little word meaning anger) of my cohorts. Enjoy! Our culture tends to believe that a person is lucky if they're wealthy and unlucky if they're not.But in these verses, James is saying that the true status of God's people cannot be determined simply by their finances. The poor are richer than they think if they trust Christ and the rich are poorer than they think if they trust anything elseJames first addresses “the brother in humble circumstances” (1:9) – the poor man. There are two kinds of poverty: generational poverty and situational poverty. Both of them are exceedingly difficult to overcome. But, according to experts, one of the keys for a person to get out of poverty is that the individual who is poor needs to rethink his/her identity. All too often we measure what we are and what we have by earthly standards. James makes it clear that's tragically short-sighted. Rather, it's who you are in Christ and what you possess because of Him that puts poverty and even suffering into perspective. Next James addresses “the rich” (1:10-11). He likens them to a fragile wildflower. A scorching heat blows through and the beautiful blossom withers and dies. James' point is to warn those who would consider themselves rich merely because they have beautiful resources just how fragile and temporary those things are. To glory in your riches, to trust in your resources is ultimately a losing proposition. James is not making a value statement regarding the rich and poor. He is not saying, “God loves the poor and hates the rich.” Nor is he saying that one cannot be wealthy and godly. Some of the greatest heroes of the faith were people of great means. But they saw themselves as rivers, not reservoirs. They understood that “to whom much is given, much is required.” However, for most, having much – whether it's beauty, talent, or wealth – can blind a person to what's truly important and what's really needed. They can all too easily deny their need of a Savior and end up “fading away” just like flowers.Bottom line? This world is not the ultimate. Our life here is short. So, if you are a “poor man,” one without many resources, remember: if you know Christ, you are richer than you think. We If you're a “rich man,” one who has resources, yours perhaps is the greater danger. What you have can deceive you into putting your trust in the wrong place. Remember: if you don't have Christ, you are poorer than you could ever know. Text: James 1:9-11 Originally recorded on February 7, 2010, at Fellowship Missionary Church, Fort Wayne, IN
