Communion is never about checking a box or doing something because it is what we do. It is a moment to slow down and remember the rescue. Scripture takes us back to Passover when God delivered His people and death passed over those covered by the blood of a spotless lamb. Jesus took that same meal and pointed it to Himself, His body given and His blood poured out so that eternal death would pass over all who believe in Him. Paul reminded the church in Corinth of the weight and seriousness of the Lord's Supper. Before taking the bread and the cup, believers are called to examine their hearts, to confess sin, and to pursue unity with others so they do not take this moment lightly. The invitation is also extended to anyone who does not yet know Christ because everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Communion becomes a time to remember what Jesus has done, to give thanks for His sacrifice, and to sit in the presence of the One who offers forgiveness, freedom, and life.Check out our video version of this episode: https://youtu.be/XKhhwlFbRWESubscribe to our YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/8wmeCwBf_zkLearn more about us at chestnutmountain.orgFollow us on Facebook & Instagram @chestnutmtn_Don't forget to subscribe to this podcast, leave a review, and let us know what you think.

We took the Politics Hour on the road this week, broadcasting live from Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, Virginia.U.S. Representative James Walkinshaw (D-VA11) joined Kojo and Tom first on stage. With elections and the government shutdown in the rearview mirror, we turned to what the future holds for the commonwealth. Federal cuts continue to affect Northern Virginia's economy, but perhaps not in the way some initially feared. As Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger prepares to take office in January, many Virginia Democrats believe the party's big wins in statewide elections should translate to an aggressive legislative agenda. Statewide leaders are also moving forward with redistricting. Rep. Walkinshaw discussed what all of this means for Virginia's future, including the 2026 midterms. Then, former member of the Virginia House of Delegates and member of Gov.-elect Spanberger's transition team Republican David Ramadan took the mic to talk about the challenges Spanberger could face as governor, why a Democrat election sweep does not mean a mandate, and the legislative debates we can expect in 2026.Sorting political fact from fiction, and having fun while we're at it. Text us here! Hershall, this is going to be quite a day, as always. The main thing to remember today is that we didn't have to hear from the resident sinner, aka (big acronym for also known as) Gen Z Boy for most of the program... I didn't want to mention it here but since he's been matrimonized (big word for married) he seems to be tardy for these services. We heard from a familiar voice today via the telephone... ole Smiity (Rev. Josh Smith, DInk, Flooded Evangelist etc.) and he told a harrowing tale of dealing with puke on a recent plane ride... Bryce (my new favorite son) was here for most of the show and told some camping tales. Folks made fun of my hearing issues and in the end, we just landed the plane (see what I did there)... Enjoy! God had promised to give the children of Israel everything they needed to rebuild the temple, including the gift of time. But when their priorities shifted, the first thing they failed to steward was that time. For 17 years, they did nothing with the assignment God had given them. Through Haggai, God calls them to “think carefully about your ways” and to evaluate how they had used their days. Time is one of the most overlooked gifts God has given us. Our days are numbered, and every one of them has a purpose. Like Israel, it is easy to let circumstances distract us and keep us from God's presence and His work. When we face difficult times, we must choose whether we will run to Him or away from Him. When we give Him our time, He adjusts everything else. The dash between our birth and death is what God has entrusted to us. While there is still breath in our lungs, how will we use the time God has given us?Check out our video version of this episode: https://youtu.be/r5XIw5lSUGQSubscribe to our YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/8wmeCwBf_zkLearn more about us at chestnutmountain.orgFollow us on Facebook & Instagram @chestnutmtn_Don't forget to subscribe to this podcast, leave a review, and let us know what you think.

Congress voted on Wednesday to end the longest federal shutdown in the nation's history. Virginia Senator Tim Kaine joined a handful of Democrats to broker a deal with Senate Republicans. The deal included reversing some federal layoffs and guaranteeing payment for furloughed workers. What it did not include was an extension of the Affordable Care Act tax credits, a provision many Democrats insisted Republicans needed to add before they'd approve a funding bill. Sen. Kaine joined the show to explain why he voted to end the shutdown, despite pushback from many in his own party.Kain said on the Politics Hour that there was no path forward on healthcare subsidies without reopening the government. He said he voted only after securing federal worker protections from the White House, including back pay, rehiring workers who were fired during the shutdown, and an end to mass layoffs."I'm getting some holy hell, but I'm getting a lot of thanks from Virginians," the Senator said. "There were bad options, and so I have no judgment about anybody who resolved this question differently than me."He also said he's optimistic about a December vote to extend healthcare subsidies, given the growing pressure on Congress to come up with a fix.Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen, who represents one of the largest number of federal workers in the country, voted against the deal. Sen. Van Hollen took the mic to explain why he believes the funding agreement won't address rising healthcare costs and will continue to allow President Trump to ignore the law.Sen. Van Hollen also voiced his support for Maryland Governor Wes Moore's redistricting efforts."I believe we should have national nonpartisan line drawing, but Republicans tried to tip the playing field in Texas, and Maryland should maximize its opportunity to protect our Democracy and the Constitution in redistricting," Senator Van Hollen said.Politicos are speculating that At-Large D.C. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie is considering a run for mayor. With D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser still undecided about running for a fourth term, he's among several potential candidates reportedly weighing runs of their own. Councilmember McDuffie also commented on D.C. residents raising questions after recent incidents where D.C. police have collaborated with federal immigration agents. He said the ICE raids need to stop. "There's no deal that I would sign that would permit our law enforcement to work with ICE, and I would want to be unequivocal about that," he said.Send us questions and comments for guests: kojo@wamu.orgFollow us on Instagram: instagram.com/wamu885Follow us on Bluesky: bsky.app/wamu.org

Text us here! Hersh, today was an exciting day on Pod'N Me. Amongst (big word for among) the various things that happened on this trash pile was the historic moment that Gen Z Boy, Broooks, took a big dubya (sophisticated way of saying win) on the ever popular "Name That Tune" segment of the show. God has called His people to live with open hands—ready to release whatever He's entrusted to us so He can use it for His glory. In Ezra, God's people were given a specific assignment: return to Jerusalem and rebuild His temple. They were not only called but also promised everything they needed to complete the task. God will never lead us where He will not provide. At first, their obedience and excitement collided with God's power, and they celebrated what He had done. But when opposition came, circumstances grew louder than God's promises, and their hands began to close. For 17 years, they stopped building. Through the prophet Haggai, God spoke again: “Think carefully about your ways.” We're not saved to sit. We've been set free to build His Kingdom. As we align our priorities and move together in obedience, God is preparing to do what only He can do. Whatever He asks of you—say yes. Trust Him with what seems impossible. When our obedience meets His power, He makes a way where there seems to be no way.Check out our video version of this episode: https://youtu.be/5bkNssH4jzYSubscribe to our YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/8wmeCwBf_zkLearn more about us at chestnutmountain.orgFollow us on Facebook & Instagram @chestnutmtn_Don't forget to subscribe to this podcast, leave a review, and let us know what you think.

Virginia Democrats had a big night in Tuesday's elections, sweeping all the statewide races and winning a supermajority in the House of Delegates. We broke down the historic election from all angles. We dove into the results with WAMU's Northern Virginia reporter, Margaret Barthel, and David Poole, founder of the Virginia Public Access Project. We were then joined by one of the big winners, Lieutenant Governor-elect Ghazala Hashmi, to discuss what it means for Virginians and her historic election victory as the first Muslim woman to win statewide office in the U.S.During the campaign, Hashmi dealt with comments about her background, including from her Republican opponent, John Reid, who suggested she was supported by "radical Islamists." Hashmi said voters made clear they disagreed with that rhetoric. "It was Virginians who made their choice known, and the ugliness of the bigotry that my opponent was targeting me with was soundly rejected on Tuesday night," she said.Hashmi said that, as Lieutenant Governor, she plans to focus on housing affordability, energy concerns, and healthcare. Finally, Virginia Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell took the mic to discuss what the Democrats' "trifecta" means for governing, constitutional amendments, and the much-discussed redistricting plan. He cautioned that Democrats will need to navigate significant budget challenges, which could hamper the party's agenda."A lot of these new policies require money in order to implement," he said. "And given our budget situation, we're gonna have to figure out what we can afford and what we can prioritize."At the top of the agenda when the General Assembly reconvenes in January will be raising the minimum wage, banning assault weapons, and paid family leave.Send us questions and comments for guests: kojo@wamu.orgFollow us on Instagram: instagram.com/wamu885Follow us on Bluesky: bsky.app/wamu.org

Jude closes his letter with a doxology, a word of praise. Giving God praise has more to do with who He is than what is going on around us. When we know who God is, we are able to worship and give Him the praise He is worthy of. We were made to know and enjoy God, and worship is due to Him at all times. In Jude 24–25, we see that God is able to save us, protect us, and present us. He is our Savior, the one who rescues us from danger and delivers us from wrath. Once He saves us, we are His forever. He is able to keep us from falling and to present us blameless and spotless in His presence. Jesus has done the work for us. Our response is to confess, believe, repent, and give all glory to the One who is able. Text us here! Hershall, I feel like I need to warn about this but I would like for you to listen. We talked about a trophy that was left in the studio and it spawned a conversation about one of my trophies that I won back in the day. I am fairly famous for something very moooving... We discussed the irrelevance of phone books and got some utterly ridiculously hilarious feedback. Brooks is a descendant of Maw Maw Pocahontas. There were gambling accusations and even an argument about song lyrics. If you wonder how all these things don't tie together, listen and find that they do! Enjoy, if possible... Text us here! Hershall, It is a wonderful privilege to be back here today... Please don't be alarmed when you hear the show. We're trying a new format just for proverbial kicks and giggles... (and we may have had both today) The giggles came often and the kick came by a listener who reminded Bro. Brad, our beloved song leader about his "Biden-like memory." He and Deacon Dustin both seemed a bit nervous when this exchange took place. Before then, Dustin told of a recent hunting experience with his son that made us all laugh (those that were paying attention). We told of recent chili cook-off that Bro. Brad took home a first place win from. We also talked about many other relevant topics... ending with a discussion on the second coming of Christ, so, Enjoy!
