The All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa will embark on a national shut down tomorrow, in protest against the hiring of foreign national drivers. The group claims its long-standing grievances submitted to the Department of Employment and Labour have not been addressed. Disruptions are expected on major highways including the N2 and N3 in KwaZulu-Natal as the forum demands government intervention. We begin with the California gubernatorial debate. Two Republicans and a slew of Democrats hoping to be Gavin Newsom’s successor. One issue in particular generated a lot of controversy – whether or not truck drivers should be required to understand English. It’s seems to be a reasonable requirement. We should want anybody driving an 80 thousand pound truck to know what the word “yield” means or “sharp curve ahead.” But California Democrats say forcing black and brown Californians and illegal immigrants to know what the word “stop means is racial profiling – and in some cases – a form of terrorism.” What say you, America?
