Om musiken roll i den proteströrelse som finns idag bland samer i Sverige och urfolken i Kanada och hur artisterna använder scenen för att uttrycka sina politiska åsikter. Vi träffar de båda samiska artisterna Sofia Jannok och Maxida Märak som båda använder jojken i sitt moderna musikskapande och har fått stor uppmärksamhet för det och för att de för fram sina politiska åsikter. Sofia Jannok berättar vad som händer med den fria formen som jojken har när den ska passas in i en nyskriven låt. Hon berättar också hur samiskan, svenskan och engelskan skiljer sig åt när hon skriver sina låttexter.I Kanada möter vi First nation-artisten och urfolksaktivisten Kevin Chief och musikerkollegan Rise Ashen som är dans/ hop hop musikproducent som i flera år jobbat med urfolksmusik från olika länder. Ammoye was born in Jamaica, moved to Toronto, Canada and formed a church group called “Sisters In Christ”, formed an organization called "The Voices of the Underground Artist Movement"(The Voices), an organization designed to give artists with similar mind sets the opportunity to perform and promote their music. Influenced by Reggae, Rock, Hip Hop and Soul, Ammoye worked with Dubmatix and the album ‘Renegade Rocker', performing the chune “Push”. Other artists on the album include Sugar Minott, Micheal Rose, Alton Ellis, Willi Williams, Pinchers, Linval Thompson, Wayne Smith and Ranking Joe, she has also worked with Sassales and Version Excursion who produced her E.P. entitled “Kicking Rocks” (available at www.versionexcursion.com). Currently being managed by Kaya Entertainment, Ammoye consistently travels across Canada and the U.S.as she works with greats such as Kreesha Turner, Michael Buble, Corey Lee, Anjulie and a host of others. In between tour dates, Ammoye is working on her debut album which will include musical productions from Eric Vani aka Rise Ashen. A fusion of reggae mixed with dance, soul, R n B and consciousness.
