Wayne Turmel and Roger Courville discuss the impact of virtual communication on presentations and the importance of teaching skills rather than solely focusing on technology. They note that communication is a crucial factor in the success of virtual hybrid work and that the key to success is how technology is used to connect with people. The conversation also touches on the difficulties of presenting online compared to in-person, including the lack of visual cues and how to assess audience engagement using alternative tools like dashboard features in Zoom or WebEx. Roger and Wayne emphasize the importance of learning the skills needed to present virtually and using available tools to understand the audience. They also discuss the need for a balanced approach to technology and communication to be successful in virtual presentations. Today on the Follower of One Podcast, Mike Henry and Roger Courville got to sit down with Dennis Allen, who is the author of the book Disciple Dilemma - Rethinking and Reforming The Way Church Does Discipleship. In this podcast, Mike, Rodger, and Dennis talk about how discipleship has changed with COVID-19, identifying the issue within the Church, and how discipleship is the foundation of Christ.   Outline of the Episode 0:23 – About Dennis Allen 1:47 – About the Disciple Dilemma - Rethinking and Reforming the Way Church Does Discipleship 5:04 – How Dennis identified the issue with the Church 8:27 – Discipleship is the foundation of Christ 9:50 – What is discipleship? 14:49 – What do I do just to follow Jesus? 20:56 – Discipleship is relational, not transactional 25:53 – What is Sphere Sovereignty 28:24 – What does relational discipleship look like in everyday life? 34:38 – Breaking out of the traditional semantics 36:51 – How can we help the church? 45:37 – Parallels between the business world and the Church   Identifying the Issue with the Church  Dennis realized the parallels between the business world and the Church. People are walking out of church, they're getting burned out of church, just like in the business world.   What is Discipleship?  Discipleship is the foundation of Christ. Disciple was used to describe Jesus' followers before he went to Antioch. But, they were not believers. Disciple is not a status, it is following Christ and staying in the mode of following Christ.    What is Sphere Sovereignty?  Think about bubbles in your life, and how they interact and intersect with the greater world. We have vocational spheres - or what we are called to be, and missional spheres - or how we are called to be missionaries of Christ. Sphere Sovereignty talks about how, as Christ followers, our multiple spheres intersect with our missional sphere.    Follow Dennis Allen:  Instagram Facebook Website Youtube   Connect With Follower Of One Join us over in our Online Community, get social with us; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn and subscribe to our YouTube channel. This week on the Follower Of One Podcast, Mike speaks with Lee Whitehead. Lee has caught the entrepreneur bug and started his consulting firm called UVOICE Consulting, Inc., focusing on marketing, sales enabling, and technology audits. He has been working with Follower Of One in several capacities including, editing and producing our podcast. Lee was born and raised in the Dallas, Texas area and his work with us began with a chance encounter between him and Mike at a local Panera Bread, of all places.   Episode Breakdown: 00:52 - Meet Lee Whitehead from UVOICE Consulting, Inc. 05:15 - Early Faith 07:40 - A Twist of Fate Leads to Love 13:35 - Two Types of People 21:32 - Lee Hits Mike with the Hard Questions   Early Faith   Lee grew up in Texas going to a Baptist church every Sunday alongside his parents and was originally baptized at the age of nine or ten. That young Lee had an epiphany while under the water that has stuck with him to this day. Having always been afraid to open his eyes underwater, young Lee opened them for the first time while being dunked under during his baptism and realized that he could do it. That day he got a little taste of God removing his fears. Growing up on a golf course, Lee excelled at playing the sport but a twist of fate at a skateboard park would later lead him to the love of his life.   The Struggle Has Been Constant   In college, Lee began to question his faith, as is common for people who are out on their own for the very first time in their lives. The struggle has been constant as studying and then work, began to take up his time and his faith moved to the back burner. It wasn't until Lee had that "chance"encounter with Mike and began working for Follower of One that faith even began to come back into his life. And, Follower Of One became the only faith-based thing in his life, for that matter.   Two Types of People   Lee says he can only speak his truth and from what he has observed, there are two types of people in the church. Take a listen to the podcast to hear about those two types and why Lee only really enjoys working with one of them. In working with Follower Of One, Lee listens to the podcasts, over and over, as he is editing and has found things that make him think deeper about his faith. One, in particular, Roger Courville's interview, really made him think. If you missed that episode, be sure to check it out.   Hard Questions   As Lee still searches for his faith he has many questions and in the second half of the interview, he hits Mike with some big questions. Is it possible to develop your interest in reading the Bible, in working on your faith, in your relationship with Jesus? Who is responsible for your success, you, or God? Where is our passion supposed to lye, with our work or with God? And, do you believe Jesus has all the answers? It's All About Your Attitude with Roger Courville, ep#25   In this week's interview on the Follower of One Podcast, Mike sits down with Roger Courville on Facebook Live! Roger is an entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience studying attention in mediated environments. Roger's take on what matters when working within a "contactless" environment is very timely!   Episode Breakdown:   1:14 - Roger has been studying attention in technology for 20 years 2:49 - Roger's background 6:49 - How to look for the right opportunities  14:34 - Acronym for Communication 24:34 - Ministry Showing Up 31:34 - How to get in touch with Roger     Root Cause   Life is long, but it seems to speed by us during certain times. The speed is a common problem in our everyday lives. Whether we are on "auto-pilot" or just going through the motions, sometimes we miss what is at the core of our being. The core is the root cause of something and that core seems to give us paralysis. How do we trace our steps back to the root cause and plan a course of action to achieve our goals? Roger confronts this in this episode with Mike. He likes to get at the root cause of our struggles, goals, ambitions, and achievements. This inspires the most important thing, though. Giving real brainpower to root causes can not only help us correct our course but can also enlighten us to many more solutions than we thought possible.     Attitude Speaks Volumes   Attitude is spoken about in every facet of life. Your attitude is directly correlated with your success in any given situation and the same goes for being a marketplace missionary. What attitude should I have today, should I have every day? What attitude should I use when things aren't going my way or when opportunities present themselves to me? Roger talks about the type of attitude you should have when developing yourself in the workplace. Are we thinking of it transactionally? Or Relationally? Thinking relationally is one of the key aspects of workplace missionary success!     Currency for Relationship   What is the currency for a relationship? The answer is trust. Your best friend (spouse or otherwise) is not your best friend because of everything they know about you but because you trust them with everything they know. It is a two-way street. God is the same way. Trusting in the Word is important. How do we spend that currency? Can we spend that currency? When you have a strong relationship with God you begin to notice that other people react to you differently than before. This is not a coincidence! Roger even gives us a powerful story on this message during the interview.   Connect with Roger:   Roger's LinkedIn Rogercourville.org For The Hope       Connect With Follower Of One Join us over in our Online Community, get social with us; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn and subscribe to our YouTube channel.
