After being at the forefront of British success for two decades, masterminding the development of superstars such as Mark Cavendish, Geraint Thomas, Bradley Wiggins and Tom Pidcock, Rod Ellingworth has left WorldTour to oversee the reboot of the women's and men's Tour of Britain. In an exclusive interview trackside at Manchester velodrome, Ellingworth reveals why he left Ineos Grenadiers, how he has a bold vision to grow British Cycling's national tours — and whether he'll be giving Dave Brailsford advice on who to bring off the bench at Old Trafford… Sandwiched between the pavé and the Giro d'Italia are the Ardennes Classics, hilly one-day races in the elevated lands of the Netherlands and Belgium, the setting this coming weekend for a heavyweight clash between Tadej Pogačar and Mathieu van der Poel. In our preview of the weekend's major racing action, Ardennes Classics veteran Dan Martin, winner of Liege-Bastogne-Liege in 2013, tells us what makes these races so special and about the qualities required to win them. We also hear from Bahrain-Victorious's Pello Bilbao on how you go about beating Tadej Pogačar. While Van der Poel and Pogačar have been hogging the victories and the headlines at the very top of the sport, it's also become increasingly difficult to ignore the feats of 21-year-old Briton Joe Blackmore. Winner of the Tours of Rwanda and Taiwan, 4th against the big guns at Flèche Brabonçonne, and victorious again at the under-23 edition of Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Blackmore has just signed a 2-year contract with Israel-PremierTech. In our profile of this hugely exciting talent, we hear from Joe Blackmore himself, who tells us what kind of rider he sees himself as and about his motivations as a racer. In our regular feature on "Ways to Make Cycling Better", former pro and now EF Education-EasyPost team director Tejay van Garderen tells us why he'd like to see names and numbers on riders' jerseys. Matt Stephens has a fascinating chat with Rod Ellingworth about his impact on British Cycling and how that helped lead to the period of dominant success at Team Sky in the mid 2010's. The newly appointed race director for Tour of Britain explains how he had a holistic approach that valued the personality of the riders as much as their numbers, and shares some interesting stories about the likes of Mark Cavendish, Geraint Thomas and Bradley Wiggins. But how can such an intelligent man be so awful at quizzes?

As a world tour mechanic Filip Tišma has worked alongside some of the biggest names in the cycling. He's the man who gave his countryman Matej Mohorič the idea to use the dropper post in Milan-San Remo and has helped the likes of Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas to grand tour glory. Bobby and Jens find out exactly what a top level mechanic gets up to on a daily basis and discovers just how many bikes they have to build in a year (spoiler: it's a lot!), how their leader's bikes differ from the rest of the bunch and the incredible process that goes into building a one off bike when a rider wins a classification at a grand tour. Edvald Boasson Hagen has been one of the strongest riders in the peloton since he joined the world tour in 2008 with High Road. His surprise win at Gent-Wevelgem in 2009, stage win at the Giro, and powerful roleur style made him a key signing for the newly formed Team Sky in 2010. He won the team's first ever Tour de France stage, picking up two in 2011 and rode as a key domestique in part of both Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome's Tour de France wins in 2012 and 2013 respectively. He's also added 10 Norwegian time trial titles, four road titles, a world championship silver medal, a third Tour de France stage win, a pair of wins each at the Tour of Britain and the Eneco Tour and three more GC wins at the Tour of Norway. Now Edvald has set his sights on stage hunting for Team TotalEnergies at this year's Tour de France. This episode of Bobby and Jens is a Shocked Giraffe production for Velo. This episode was produced by Mark Payne and edited by Kirk Warner.
Kilometre 0 Richie and Chris kicks off a seven-part mini series focusing on the 2013 Tour de France. To mark the 100th edition of the race, the Tour headed to Corsica for the grand départ. Lionel Birnie spoke to former teammates Chris Froome and Richie Porte about the race. Froome led Team Sky for the first time having been runner-up to Bradley Wiggins the previous year. Wiggins was somewhat controversially – although perhaps not surprisingly – left out of the line-up a few weeks before the start. There was drama from the start. On day one Froome crashed in the neutralised zone before the race had even started, then the Orica-GreenEdge team bus got stuck under the finish line gantry, almost bringing the entire Tour to a standstill. Froome laid down the gauntlet in the Pyrenees when, for 24 hours, everything looked to be going Sky's way. Then there was a date with Mont Ventoux, a double-ascent of Alpe d'Huez and some nervous moments in the final few days. The rest of the series The 100th Tour, 10 years On is the story of that 2013 race as told by The Cycling Podcast. We've delved into our archive to revisit the first Tour the podcast covered. The remaining six episodes will be released for Friends of the Podcast subscribers from Tuesday to Thursday. Studies indicate that 40% to 50% of athletes have experienced anything from mild harassment to severe abuse. During the mid-90s reports of sexual abuse of child athletes in sport started to emerge in the UK. By the mid-2000s, child protection and safeguarding procedures had been introduced in to sport, making the country one of the first in the world to adopt such measures. The 3-time Olympic Champion and the first British winner of the Tour de France in 2012, Bradley Wiggins, was one of many athletes who spoke out and revealed that he was groomed and sexually abused by a coach at the age of 13. There has been much criticism of our laws, with some saying that there is a wide gap, allowing perpetrators to mask themselves as ‘sports coaches', and able to get away with their heinous crimes of abuse. An independent enquiry stated that ‘child abuse in sport has been covered up for decades'. In this episode Hatti Suvari and senior Barrister Cameron Brown KC bring you insights in to this topic, from what is meant by child safeguarding in sport, to the new planned laws to protect and safeguard children. A key part of child safeguarding is spreading the message about keeping children safe, and building a culture of always acting in the best interest of all children.#safeguarding #childreninsport #sportscoaches #abuse #emotionalabuse #mentalabuse #childsafety #codeofconduct #criminaloffence #legallearnig #getlegallyspeaking #hattisuvari #cameronbrownkc Hosted on Acast. Bradley Wiggs is the lesser known little brother of Bradley Wiggins. Lesser both in size and riding prowess. But nevertheless, is a force to be reckoned with on two wheels. Coming from a running background down in the desert of Palmdale, Wiggs joined cycling later than most. Accrediting most of his growth in cycling to Colin Patterson and Blake Anton, Wiggs rode for the Cal Poly Cycling Team and started both the Collegiate National Road and Crit races but did not finish either. Now racing for Voler Factory Racing and working at Voler, he dabbles in gravel and is pretty good at mountain bikes as well. Some currently call him the angel of gravel, and he's been racing the international road scene, having raced across Latin and South America as well as in China in the past few years. This is Brad wiggs.

Bradley Wiggins and Matt Stephens return to discuss Stage 12 of the Tour de France on the latest episode of the Bradley Wiggins Show. There's praise for Tom Pidcock whose “almost superhuman” performance left Matt on the verge of tears after he became the youngest ever winner on Alpe d'Huez. The 22-year-old became the second British winner – after Geraint Thomas - on the iconic col and Wiggins has tipped the Yorkshireman as a winner of the Tour de France in the future. The 2012 winner thinks that the Tour de France suits him best of all the Grand Tours. There is also praise for the new environment on show at his team Ineos under the guidance of Steve Cummings and Rod Ellingworth. Arguably, though, the story of the day was Chris Froome's return to form with a third-placed finish. Wiggins says it is testament to his resilience and perseverance to return to world-class form following three years of rehabilitation. The Bradley Wiggins Show is edited by Chris Watts.Produced by Pete Burton. "Rice for breakfast is absolutely standard," says James Forsyth, Performance Chef for elite cycling team the INEOS Grenadiers. That's just one of the many, slightly odd, things he has to think about as part of his role. His job is to prepare meals for all members of the cycling team, as they compete at major events such as the Tour de France. So much thought goes into what the athletes eat and it varies depending on what role the individual cyclist has within the team. One thing is for certain, a lot of food needs to be consumed to make sure the riders are fit and ready to compete at the very top level. "It's about the volume of what they eat at each mealtime," James tells Elisa Roche in this episode of the Career Conversations podcast series. "Each meal would probably equate to around six or seven meals." The INEOS Grenadiers, formerly known as Team Sky, are one of the most successful cycling teams of recent years. Geraint Thomas, who won the Tour de France in 2018, currently rides for them, and former team members include Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome. An INEOS Grenadiers rider has won the Tour de France in seven of the last ten years. James says he wasn't sure he had the right qualifications to become one of team's chefs and his career started in a very different setting. He started off as a chef in a country restaurant, before moving on to work in Michelin-starred restaurants in London. Listen to the full episode to find out how he managed to make the move to one of the world's leading sports teams, what it's like working on the road for so much of the year, and why you "sometimes get an evil eye across the table" when dealing with riders with different roles within the team. James also has some top tips for landing yourself a job just like his. James Forsyth, Team Chef, INEOS Grenadiers James Forsyth has been cooking for 15 years. Starting his working career as a butchers assistant and washing dishes at the local pub. He took up a commis position at a catering events company, working side by side with the head chef, here he learnt the fundamentals of cooking. Moving on to a 1AA rosette restaurant with a small kitchen brigade, the mentoring continued from a highly experienced head chef for two years. Needing a greater challenge, he moved to London for 4 years to work at the 2* Michelin The Square and 1* Michelin Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. It was at Dinner where he won the William Heptinstall award after being nominated by his peers. This took him to Sydney to gain experience working in the 3 Hats fusion kitchen of Rockpool. After some time away from the stove exploring east Asia and Oceania he took up a role cooking for professional cyclists at Team Sky, now INEOS Grenadiers. Being in the role of senior chef for 7 years, it has come with much team success. From being a part of six grand tour wins including Chris Froomes' three consecutive grand tour victories to multiple stage and one-day race victories.
From the cobbled flatlands of Flanders to the mixed surface mountain top finish of La Super Planche des Belle Filles, the first full week of the Tour de France did not disappoint. Matt Stephens has been to every stage and brings us his personal highlights. From getting Mitch Docker's opinion on the Belgian fans to clearing out a supermarket of yoghurt drinks with Bradley Wiggins, there's never a dull moment on this epic edition of the Tour de France Unplugged. Matt looks back at the racing too, and offers some hot tips for your Fantasy Tour de France team as the race heads into the Alps.

Cath Bishop is a former British Olympian & World Rowing Champion. She speaks passionately about the concept of winning. She argues that the end cannot justify the means. We need to do more for athletes, to protect their mental health and ensure when they exit their sporting life they emerge as well rounded citizens. Bradley Wiggins was one of the greatest cyclists GB ever produced but did the institution which created "Wiggo" do enough to protect young Bradley. Matt Stephens and Fred Wright discuss that itching feeling to get back on the bike after a few days of rest, which might come as a surprise given the depth of effort Fred put into his Spring Classics season. Now with his sights firmly on the Tour de France, the Team Bahrain Victorious rider is so versatile that he has the luxury of picking and choosing whether he goes for it in a bunch sprint or a Time Trial stage. Having met Bradley Wiggins there as a kid, it wasn't until he reached his teens that he realised that Herne Hill Velodrome and its volunteers had shaped him as a rider, and a person; setting him on his path to stardom in the pro peloton.
“You've got to love bike racing - it's the best thing in the world”. Ben Turner of Ineos after 257 km of dust, cobbles and crashes in this year's Paris Roubaix. Rouleur's Rachel Jary was there and in this edition she talks us through the surprises of the men's race with contributions from Ben Turner himself, Bradley Wiggins and Dave Brailsford; and talks to two of the youngest riders in the women's race about their baptism on the cobbles. Ed Pickering is Rouleur's new editor. He joins host Ian Parkinson to talk about his love for the sport and his plans for the magazine. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

What do us cyclists really want for Christmas? Definitely not another bike-shaped pizza cutter, comedy jersey or random piece of giftware with a bike on, according to VecchioJo! Yep, it's that time of year where Jo compiles his very own Christmas list of what not to buy for cyclists this Nöel, and for the 13th episode of the road.cc Podcast we've brought it to life as he discusses the road.cc Christmas no-no list with George and Jack. WARNING: Contains brief digressions about fixies and rim brakes that could massively trigger fans of either of these things… Liam and Jack also chat to Nick Howes, who was the press officer and then digital manager for Team Sky while they were at their absolute peak. What was it like working on the road while one of the biggest stories in British sport unfolded before us, with Bradley Wiggins' Tour de France victory inspiring a generation of Team Sky-wearing MAMILs? We've also got a giveaway to celebrate hitting 10,000 downloads last episode! Our road.cc Podcast partners Altura are giving away a luxurious Merino neck warmer, and we're throwing in a road.cc t-shirt and road.cc socks for good measure. Just press play on the episode to hear the question, then email podcast@road.cc to send us your answer and be in with a chance to win. Enjoy the episode!

Rich is and has been one of my favourite illustrators for years. My icon on most of my social media accounts, Rich drew. I have several of his prints and he is one of the nicest chaps going. Rich has worked with the likes of Rouleur Magazine, Bowman Cycles, Assos and superstar cyclists such as Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish and Lizzie Deignan to name a few. He always says his creativity is fuelled by tea. This one was a truly enjoyable chat with one of my favourite people about all things cycling.
