Wayne Turmel and Roger Courville discuss the impact of virtual communication on presentations and the importance of teaching skills rather than solely focusing on technology. They note that communication is a crucial factor in the success of virtual hybrid work and that the key to success is how technology is used to connect with people. The conversation also touches on the difficulties of presenting online compared to in-person, including the lack of visual cues and how to assess audience engagement using alternative tools like dashboard features in Zoom or WebEx. Roger and Wayne emphasize the importance of learning the skills needed to present virtually and using available tools to understand the audience. They also discuss the need for a balanced approach to technology and communication to be successful in virtual presentations. On today’s episode we are joined by Dr. Gwendolyn Seidman, Associate Professor of Psychology and Department Chair at Albright College, to talk about presentations of relationships on social media and how the posts are related to relationship satisfaction. Gwen shares with us how patterns of social media use, and how the relationship is presented, can be indicative of the relationship satisfaction, long-term prognosis, and desire to ward off or invite potential suitors. What is the investment model of commitment and how is it reflected in social media use? Does the social media platform change the motive of the post? Why are some posts ‘gross’? All this and much more in Online Presentations of Relationships with Dr. Gwendolyn Seidman!

The most frequently asked question I've heard in the last three months is something along the lines of, "How do I give an online presentation that doesn't suck?" First off, it's hard! Second, it requires a little more thought than just showing up and talking. I put together a list of seven ways to improve at online presenting. But first, here are the seven reasons you suck at it: 1. You lost them at the seventh second when you hit a technical glitch related to your slides. 2. You're boring. 3. You won't turn your camera on. 4. Everyone sucks at online presentations. 5. You're talking AT your audience. 6. You didn't think about your audience. 7. You ONLY thought about your audience. See the full list including tips to improve here. Got a topic you want covered on my show? Email me at angela@speakersisterhood.com and you may hear it on an upcoming episode!

Boris and Iva are here to help you boost the quality and engagement of your online presentations on every level! In Part 1 you'll be learning about the basics and some of the more advanced steps for you to bring the feeling of a real presentation to an online one. You'll learn about adapting your story and content to a virtual environment where talking to people and conveying your key message is quite different from speaking to people who are in the same room. You'll also learn about preparing and setting up your space in a way that allows your online audience to be able to focus on you and enjoy your presentation, instead of having distractions that will ruin the engagement. Finally, we'll talk about the technical part including gear, software, and backups that will be of significant value to you for getting your message across without a single issue.
