The world is full of situations and circumstances that have the tendency to make us anxious and worried. God does not want those things to steal our peace, so He has given us the ability to communicate with Him through prayer. When we lift up the concerns of our lives, we can trust that God is in control. Prayer changes us from anxious people to people of peace.

Three Paralyzing Questions That Stop People 1. How much should I ask God for? 2. How much should I seek for in life? 3. How many doors should I knock on?
Big Question: How to think when you feel forgotten?

What strengthens your faith? The Lord’s Supper and Prayer. The Lord’s Supper is a divine fellowship, not a mere ritual. Prayer is a type of worship in which you acknowledge who God is and lift up every need you have.

If we aren't careful our prayer lives fall into a routine and then this routine can become a rut. When this happens, prayer is something that we do to check our box. In this situation prayer becomes something of a burden in our lives. How do we move past this? This message shows us how to move into the kind of prayer life we long to have

In week 11 of "Twisted" Pastor John takes on the topic of Prayer. It's rampant in todays society to believe in a "name it claim it" or "prosperity gospel". Pastor John puts down the notion of those and instead helps make sense when God says, yes, no, or I have a better idea.

On Sunday, August 26 at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC, we enjoyed hearing Rev. Ross Hodges from our sister church in Mt. Pleasant preach from Matthew 7:7-11. He focused on prayer and praying, encouraging us (as Jesus did in the Sermon on the Mount) that God wants us to come to him in prayer He wants us to ask knowing we'll be heard in our prayers He wants us to come to him because he's a good Father How are we to live this way? Jesus' answer was: pray. Jesus wants us to be actively, intentionally, and dependent on God. God our Father has already given us the best gift in Jesus, so why would he not continue giving good gifts? God's not giving us stones in our bread basket; he's a loving Father and gives good gifts.

He will say no. They're busy. I don't want to bother them. Face it: some of us have a problem ASKING others for things. And to make matters worse, we ask ONCE and, if the answer is no, we walk away and give up. But that's the WRONG approach to take with prayer. Prayer requires a stick-to-it-ness and a resolve to keep praying. It requires the P-word.

When Jesus tells us to "ask and receive", is this a 'name it and claim it' type of prayer? This passage actually reveals a progression of the heart as we ask of the Lord, then seek after those things, and then desperately knock on the heart of God. I'm thankful that we serve a God that wants to give good things to his children!

Matthew 7:7-11. Some people get frustrated and abandon faith. Why? Because their prayers aren’t answered. But praying isn’t like asking Santa for what we want and getting it all nice and wrapped up under the tree. God is not Santa. God isn’t a genie in a bottle. He’s not our personal assistant. Learn in this message about how prayer actually works, including seven keys to answered prayers.

Sermon on the Mount #11 - Matthew 7:7-11
Our views of God are often set by the experiences we have with people on earth. Our earthly fathers have impacted our view of the heavenly father. In this sermon, we begin to learn about what it takes to revise our view and to grow in our relationship with God based on who He really is for us.
"Ask, Seek, Knock" goes through Jesus' teaching from the Sermon on the Mount as found in Matthew 7:7-11, where Jesus teaches us about how we can take our needs and concerns to God in prayer. We can ask, seek, and knock, while trusting that God is good, that God loves us, and that God desires to care for us.
Jesus teaches and instructs us on how to pray, and what to pray for.
Jesus tells His disciples to persist in prayer. We will see today in our text that we are to pray with perseverance and confidence.

Sunday PM Sermon
Pastor Russ Miller continues teaching the series on the Sermon on the Mount.
Throughout life we need to learn how to prevail and resist in prayer. Jesus says that if we ask, seek and knock that God will hear and respond. Learn how to become a prevailing, praying Christian.
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus makes a blanket promise - if we will pray the way He teaches us to, God will give us what we ask. Every time. Listen in to hear how to pray the type of prayer God answers.
Jesus likes to be asked.
