Gabby travels to Newcastle to speak to Dan Burn (21:54), captain of the women's team, Amber-Keegan Stobbs (9:21), and club icon, Shola Ameobi (02:14). All three are involved in the Newcastle United Foundation, which helps almost 70,000 people across the North East each year. Burn shares how he uses his time away from the pitch to help his local community. He talks about Eddie Howe and the England job, and how he might not have coped with the pressure of being a local hero if he'd started his senior career at Newcastle. Ameobi tells us how the Foundation helped him go from a 5-year-old who arrived in Newcastle from Nigeria, unable to speak English, to a Premier League player with almost 400 appearances for the club. Plus, Stobbs shares her mental health journey and talks about the rapid rise of the women's team, record crowds of almost 30,000 in the fourth tier, and back-to-back promotions into the Championship. The LOVpod is kinda back, as this weeks episode actually only contains two people, but it's still as good as ever. So join host Dan and DowntheMannyRD Tom as they delve into some Bolton Wanderers chat. The first segment is actually like positive for the first time in what seems like forever as the pair discusses not one, BUT TWO, Wanderers win during the week. The 3-2 victory over Eastleigh that saw the Whites proceed to the 4th round of the FA Cup and then the 3-1 dismantling of the atrocious MK Dons in a must win game. The lads talk about the positive performers, with the likes of Liam Trotter, Rob Holding, Wellington Silva and Darren Pratley, and also ponder if this could be the start of an escape bid from Bolton. In the second segment the fellas discuss the weeks happenings at the Macron, with Wanderers going from staff not being paid to the court granting a validation order and the sale of the car park within days. The potential departures of Liam Feeney, Pratley and youngster Alex Samidazeh are also debated. As well as the state of limbo that Shola Ameobi finds himself in. Things are then brought to a close with a quick discussion on Saturday's FA Cup 4th round tie with Leeds United, all before the show ends with a brilliant (potentially very shit) surprise. Enjoy! On LOVpod Episode 30, Chris is joined by tech wiz Rob and the man behind Talk Trotters, Alastair, who comes in for his second appearance on the show. This weeks pod is very Southern centric, which means we actually had real life witnesses to Saturday's defeat. The boys drill down into Bolton Wanderers' 4-3 defeat at Queens Park Rangers, directing Neil Lennon's team selection as Darren Pratley and Dorian Dervite both returned to injury. Francesco Pisano's half time departure, Ben Amos' dip in form and the pair of Gary Madine and Liam Feeney actually, against all the odds, finding some form in front of goal. Oh, and the fact we lost to a last minute goal. That's all before discussing the Whites rumoured transfer targets, including Adam Hamill, Michael Tonge and Shola Ameobi, another possible takeover bid and the state of ticket prices in the English game, as Rob describes his experience as he tried to support the Twenty's Plenty campaign ran by the FSF. Proceedings are brought to a close with a game of Guess Who and a discussion on possible changes ahead of next week's visit to Burnley. An opening question about pathetic capitulations reminds Marcus, Luke, Pete And Jim about Middlesbrough 8, Sven’s Manchester City 1 and even a debate about Shola Ameobi’s hat collection fails to draw the Football Ramble back from the brink of hysteria in this week’s episode. Harry Kane’s late equaliser vs. West Ham and Brentford’s illogical decision to sack Mark Warburton do their best, but by the time Sammy Ameobi gets his mensh, Pete’s gone full potty mouth and despite Jim’s best efforts, he stays firmly ensconced in the lav.
