In this enlightening conversation with Ashley Longstaff, I share my journey from teaching for over 30 years to creating a new life in Noosa's hinterland. We explore the realities of midlife transitions — from career pivots and empty nests to health challenges and reimagining what comes next. This honest discussion reveals why midlife isn't something to merely survive but rather a powerful opportunity to create a life aligned with your true values and desires.Key TakeawaysThe Midlife Essence (40-65) is filled with transitions that can either overwhelm you or become catalysts for positive change. After decades of living for others, this is your opportunity to redesign life on your terms.Values Alignment is crucial for fulfilment. When feeling unsettled or restless, examine if your current lifestyle matches your core values. Many women experience dissatisfaction because they are living misaligned with what truly matters to them.Health Must Be Prioritised during midlife transitions. With 80% of women over 50 developing two or more chronic diseases, establishing strong health habits now is non-negotiable. Even small, consistent actions make a significant difference.Boundaries Are Essential for self-care. Start with small, non-negotiable commitments to yourself—like dedicated exercise time or morning rituals—and gradually expand these boundaries as your family adapts.Take 100% Responsibility for your life moving forward. Instead of waiting for circumstances to change, actively create the future you want through intentional choices. Knowledge without action creates no transformation.A big thank you to Ashely Longstaff for the ‘podswap' and being able to share our experiences with more women in midlife.Connect with Ashleywww.lovingcolour.au/colouranalysis - Virtual Colour Analysiswww.instagram.com/lovingcolour__ - Follow Ashley on Instagramhttps://www.lovingcolour.au/podcasts/life-in-colour - Life In Colour Podcast Moving ForwardThe biggest regret of the dying, as palliative care nurse Bronnie Ware discovered, is "I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me." In this vibrant episode of the Redefining Midlife podcast, I chat with Ashley Longstaff, a colour analysis expert who helps women discover the colours that make them truly shine. From her fascinating upbringing as an expat child who attended 18 different schools to her journey from corporate PR to colour analysis, Ashley shares how finding your perfect colour palette can transform your wardrobe and your confidence. As midlife brings changes to our appearance and identity, understanding which colours complement our natural features becomes even more valuable.Key Takeaways:Your "Colour Season" Stays With You: While hair and skin change with age, your underlying "colour season" generally remains the same throughout your life. Ashley explains how the 12-season colour analysis system works and how it helps identify the colours that naturally harmonise with your personal features.Simple Tests to Try at Home: To discover if you lean "warm" or "cool," try holding white fabric against your skin, then cream. Notice which one makes your complexion look fresher and brighter. Similarly, pay attention to whether silver or gold jewelry makes your skin appear more vibrant.Baby Steps to Colour Confidence: If you're hesitant to embrace new colours, Ashley recommends starting small. Try incorporating your newly discovered flattering colours through accessories like scarves, earrings, or shoes before committing to larger wardrobe pieces. Midlife Style Evolution: As women transition through midlife (empty nesting, career changes, etc.), it's the perfect time to reassess your personal style. Ashley encourages women to ignore arbitrary fashion "rules" about age and instead focus on what makes you feel authentically good in your clothes. Carving Out Identity Beyond Roles: Ashley shares her personal journey through health challenges and raising teenagers while rediscovering herself. She emphasises the importance of making time for personal interests beyond being a wife and mother. What's Next?Ready to discover which colours bring out your natural radiance? Ashley offers virtual colour analysis services where she'll analyse photos of you with different colours to determine your perfect palette. She'll provide 30 colours in your primary palette, plus makeup recommendations tailored to your specific colouring.Remember that confidence in midlife isn't about following arbitrary rules—it's about embracing what makes you feel authentically you. Whether you're navigating changing hair colour, hormonal shifts, or simply wanting to refresh your style, understanding your personal colour palette is a powerful tool for expressing your true self.Listen to the full episode to hear more about Ashley's journey and her practical advice for using colour to boost your confidence at any age.Links mentioned in this episode:www.lovingcolour.au/colouranalysis - Virtual Colour Analysiswww.instagram.com/lovingcolour__ - Follow Ashley on Instagramhttps://www.lovingcolour.au/podcasts/life-in-colour - Life In Colour Podcast You can also find me on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/joclarkcoaching/ and LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/joclarkcoaching/Here's to redefining midlife and making our next half of life even better than the first.

In this bonus special episode of the Technology and Security podcast, host Dr Miah Hammond-Errey was joined in conversation by Dr. Simon Longstaff and Major General Paul Symon. It is a lightly edited panel conversation about ethics, technology and intelligence held at the ethics Centre in Sydney in February this year. Ostensibly to launch Miah's new book, the conversation was a great excuse to get the three of us together to have a fun chat about the intersections of technology intelligence and ethics. Dr Miah Hammond-Errey outlined how the big data landscape –of data abundance, digital connectivity and ubiquitous technology – impacts intelligence production and national security. This includes where Australian intelligence leaders and practitioners see the ethical boundaries of data and technology use in intelligence as well as the broader concept of ‘ethics at scale.' The first 22 mins are the opening statements. Following on, Dr. Simon Longstaff and Major General Paul Symon explored a wide range of ethical implications of technology for intelligence, including the distinction between foreign and domestic intelligence, trust and legitimacy of institutions and the role of humans in ethical decision-making. They then take questions from the audience. Afterwards they co-published a short article about the idea of ethics at scale and how organisations can manage the increasing ethical conundrums technology brings. You can find the links below in the show notes. I hope you enjoy it! This is the second of a series of special episodes on intelligence. Given the intense interest in the role of technology in intelligence production and Security decision making, Technology & Security podcast will have occasional special additions with a purple logo highlighting intelligence specific episodes.Resources mentioned in the recording:Book: 29 Jan 2024, Big Data, Emerging Technology & Intelligence: National Security Disrupted, Routledge (30% off discount code: ADC24) Opinion: 18 Mar 2024 Why every organisation should have an ethical adviser, The Canberra Times, co-authors Dr Simon Longstaff, Paul Symon and Dr Miah Hammond-Errey) (https://ethics.org.au/access-to-ethical-advice-is-crucial/) This podcast was recorded on the lands of the Gadigal people, and we pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging. Jack and Mark review Newcastle's big cup win over Chelsea as the Magpies record a comfortable 2-0 win to progress to the Carabao Cup Quarter-Final. The midfield balance looked good with Longstaff and Willock starting and Joelinton out on the left wing. How is Eddie going to manage his midfield moving forward? There was also a good performance by Lloyd Kelly and another strong showing from Lewis Hall, who now looks fully up to speed. What are the chances of the changes being kept for the Arsenal challenge at the weekend? Hopefully a season changing and momentum shifting win for the Magpies!

It's January 4th. Happy New Year dear listener. We have now passed the halfway stage in the season's Premier League.. Welcome to the latest edition of our show. I'm Paul and I am joined by Haitham and Daz. We'll talk about the Newcastle game and we'll look ahead to Arsenal in the FA Cup and Fulham in the League Cup. Part One - Newcastle 4-2 (xG 6.9 v 0.6 Statsbomb): Best performance of the season from the Reds so far, in less than ideal conditions. Reds were a threat all the way through - in the first half alone chances in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 11th 17th (offside), 23rd, 25th (2) and 35th minutes. Dropped off after a series of decisions went against them and they quite rightly appeared to be furious with Taylor. Missed penalty at 19 could have derailed them. Came out with real attitude in the second half. 48 - first goal - great from Diaz and Nunez to set up Mo. 150th league goal for Liverpool. Followed by Dubravka saves from Nunez at 50 and 52. 53 - really should have done better with Gordon and Isak. 56 - VVD foul on Almiron. Worst we've seen from him this year? Diaz, Nunez, Salah. Best from Diaz in a while, Darwin? Salah's 2nd half was great 64 - Jota, Gravenberch and Gakpo. That feels unfair. By 68 Liverpool are relentless again 73 - Jones goal from Salah and Jota. Passed it round him twice. 77 - Lesson for Darwin, don't hit it so cleanly! Mo's pass! 80 - No one blocked Botman from the corner (looks like an enforcer from a crime movie) 84 - Mac Allister pass to Jota; Jota never reestablishes his balance. Salah 151 - 94 - Nearly scored again through Jota and Salah. Curtis Jones, Joe Gomez - could probably name the whole team Newcastle: Showed some threat on the break - 30, 36 (narrow offside) Went full Athletico at the end with some of the challenges Dubravka - 11 saves What happened to the rule on the technical area? The disingenuous Mr. Howe… the xG was made up of penalties. And claiming Longstaff was fouled at 72 (deflect, deflect, deflect) Officiating: I counted at least 10 situations where Anthony Taylor gave them the benefit of the doubt - I thought he helped them throughout the game to avoid even more pressure. Soft fouls, non-calls (Diaz shoved in the back, and he ends up with the yellow card). Joelinton - how many fouls for 1 card in the 66th minute? Part Two - Wider narrative and other news: Reds are ‘flawed'. Losing Mo could be the end. 18 games left - Arsenal, Villa and United away City will go on a run Anyone else? Part Three - Arsenal and Fulham: Hard not to see them as linked and the latter more important right now Formation - solutions to the gaps? And predictions We will be back after the first leg against Fulham. Thanks to Haitham and Daz. And thank you dear listener for joining us. If you enjoyed the pod, please share it with a friend. Just as things started to go our way, we crashed back down to reality with a bump. Newcastle seemed there for the taking: ravished by injuries and fatigued from a gruelling Champions League-laden fixture schedule. Fulham, on the other hand were free scoring and boosted by the return to form of our Mexican striker Raúl Jimiénez. However, after deciding to leap like a salmon and nearly knock Longstaff out cold with his backside, Raúl earned a red after 30 minutes, and it was curtains. We look back on the afternoon on Tyneside, answer some of your questions, and look ahead to our Carabao Cup quarter final against Everton on Tuesday night. 00:00 - Three word reviews 05:00 - Newcastle reaction 33:23 - Listener questions 46:23 - Everton preview If you enjoy Fulhamish, please consider contributing a small amount monthly to help pay our costs.
