This is one of the slower Saturday episodes—no announcements, no news. Just a piece of the book I'm writing, read and thought through out loud.It starts on Circe's island, where Odysseus's men have already been turned into pigs. It passes through Dante's hell, where the greedy push boulders forever, and through Midas's palace, where a father reaches for his daughter and finds cold metal. And it ends somewhere closer to home: the quiet withdrawal, the measured non-engagement, the parts of ourselves we've decided are too valuable or too vulnerable to share.Because here's the thing about Avarice: in its deepest expression, it was never about gold. It's a misdirected search for transcendence. We're not hoarding money, we're hoarding self. Time, warmth, attention, the willingness to be known. And the endpoint of all that protecting isn't wealth. It's isolation. Two questions sit at the center of this one:What are you unwilling to give? And what is that withholding costing the people who need you?If the episode does something to you, here's the assignment, which is also the argument: share it with one person you've been quietly withholding from.—ChadP.S. — Monday's episode is different. I have an announcement about the press, about what we're building, and about how you can be part of it. It's the most excited I've been about anything in a while. Come back Monday. This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit chadprevost.substack.com

(The Center Square) – Gov. J.B. Pritzker says there could be a special legislative session in Illinois this summer, but he won't raise people's taxes to pay for a new Chicago Bears stadium. Pritzker spoke in Chicago on Tuesday afternoon and said there could be a special session if the General Assembly can get together on one piece of Bears legislation. “The first priority for me is we're not raising people's taxes to pay for a privately owned stadium, that's number one, or any stadium for a billionaire-owned family,” Pritzker said. The governor also said the legislature would be meeting again in few months. Fall veto session is scheduled Nov. 17-19 and Dec. 1-3. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. As we close out an incredible week of studying **After the Battle: Walking in God's Next Assignment**, we pause to reflect on all that God has been teaching us.This week, we discovered that God meets us in our grief, restores us after failure, strengthens us in seasons of waiting, empowers us through His Spirit, and ultimately calls us to build a life that leaves an eternal legacy. Now, as we enter the weekend readings, we begin a brand-new chapter in Scripture with the book of **1 Kings**.David's journey is coming to an end, and a new generation is preparing to lead. At the same time, the early Church continues to grow in the book of Acts as ordinary believers boldly proclaim the Gospel through the power of the Holy Spirit.Throughout these passages, we continue exploring the June theme:**Jehovah Nissi — The Lord Our Banner.**This month, we are discovering that Jehovah Nissi is not only the God who gives victory, but the Master Builder who faithfully establishes His purposes through surrendered people.====In this Weekend Edition✨ A recap of this week's journey through restoration, waiting, empowerment, and legacy.✨ An introduction to the book of 1 Kings and the transition from David to Solomon.✨ How the early Church remained bold even in the face of opposition.✨ Why God's people can remain steady because the Lord Himself is our Banner.=====Weekend Readings**Saturday, June 6**

(The Center Square) – Gov. J.B. Pritzker says Illinois' new budget for fiscal year 2027 protects working families from new taxes, but Republican state Rep. Blaine Wilhour says the governor can't stop asking for more. The governor touted investments in housing, education and health care in the $55.9 billion spending plan approved by the General Assembly on Monday. “We made all of those people-first investments while maintaining our positive fiscal trajectory and protecting working families from paying new taxes,” Pritzker said. The state's latest revenue package includes Pritzker's social media platform fee, which the governor suggested could generate $200 million for public education. (The Center Square) – Illinois may soon have a prescription affordability board to impose price caps on drugs, but questions are being raised over the proposed board's potential effectiveness and lack of budget appropriations. Senate Bill 3496 was filed in February to ensure proper licensing of nurses, but the bill text was gutted and replaced by House Amendment 1 to establish a Prescription Drug Affordability Board. State Rep. Nabeela Syed, D-Palatine, told the House Executive Committee on Wednesday the board would be independent of any other state agency and would set maximum prices for drugs.
