On today's podcast we have Mark Warburton.   We explore how Mark went from getting up at 4:32 for 20-odd years, to be at his trading desk for 5:45, then dealing $1.5-2B a day in foreign exchange deals, getting home at 7pm and taking calls through the night from New York, to winning championships at Brentford and Rangers - two phenomenal football clubs. Mark's story is as inspiring as it is unconventional. A former elite trader, he transitioned to coaching and quickly made his mark where he was the dominant catalyst in Brentford's ascent to the pinnacle of English football. Most significantly to me, the mighty Glasgow Rangers. Under his leadership, Rangers returned to the pinnacle of Scotland's topflight. As a coach, mentor, and leader, Mark has a proven ability to build winning teams both on and off the pitch, and take it from me - he is an exceptional human being. I believe his best is yet to come.  In this episode we talk about what excellence in leadership, and coaching teams looks like in both trading and football, we discuss the challenges that come with senior leadership, and how serious you need to take things if you truly want to perform at your best.   I hope you enjoy.   ----------------------------------------------------------------   Find Mark: https://x.com/markwarburton9   Find James: https://www.linkedin.com/in/acceleratingexcellence/ https://www.instagram.com/jamesaking_/ https://jamesaking.com/   The Mindset App: While the app is under development, we have decided to provide access to the full content for free on YouTube for a limited time. In this special Extraordinary General Podcast (EGP) we are reacting to the bolt out of the blue news, that Neil Critchley has left the building, having made the decision to carry Steven Gerards bags as Aston Villa's assistant manager. Talking Points If you're listening to this, you've probably heard the news. Blackpool Football Club have agreed terms with Aston Villa for Neil Critchley to join them (and Steven Gerrard) as their new assistant manager. It follows Michael Beale vacating that post to become QPR Manager. First off gentleman, how are we feeling? March interview with the Gazette where he said ‘hopefully there are a few more years to come yet” Was the connection with the fans a ploy to get us on his side? Mitch on Critch It feels like an odd move - to go from an up and coming Championship side to #2 at a mid-table Premier League side. Beale clearly saw the reverse as a step up. Why do we think Neil Critchley has decided to leave the club? Is it money for him personally? Better wages? Relationship with Gerrard? (The two worked together in LFC's youth set-up. Gerrard has said he was the “#1 choice” based on their previous work together) Is it the supposed lack of transfer budget - dependent on selling Bowler? The club is investing off the pitch; so it isn't like the club is refusing to show ambition. Does moving in this way tarnish Critchley's legacy? Achievements on the pitch Any comparison to Holloway? What next for Blackpool football club? Presumably we have compensation given Critchley was under contract to 2025 What should we be looking for in a new manager? Who does this panel feel should get the job? Potential Replacements (ranked by BetVictor favourites) Dave Challinor (6/1) - Stockport County Michael Appleton (8/1) - just left Lincoln City Michael Duff (8/1) - Cheltenham Town Leam Richardson (8/1) - Wigan Athletic Micky Mellon (10/1) - Tranmere Rovers, formerly Dundee Gareth Ainsworth (10/1) - Wycombe Wanderers John Coleman (12/1) - Accrington Stanley Takes players from non-league, and now able to perform in League One Lots of experience - but a bit more traditional Tony Mowbray (12/1) - just left Blackburn Rovers Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank (12/1) - Burton Albion Simon Grayson (12/1) - sacked from Fleetwood Other Sean Dyche? Surely he'll sit tight and wait for Steve Bruce to be sacked? Liam Manning from MK Dons? Ian Evatt? Wayne Rooney? Michael Carrick? Duncan Ferguson? Mark Warburton? Brian Barry Murphy (City U23s Manager, formerly at Rochdale) Kevin Betsy

After QPR's David Marshall suffered an injury in the midweek defeat to Nottingham Forest, the club found themselves in the unenviable position of having four first-team goalkeepers out of action. With Dillon Barnes (essentially a No6) recalled from a loan spell and waiting in the wings, Mark Warburton wasn't able to dip into the emergency loan market and instead plumped for Keiren Westwood – one of very few out of contract goalkeepers available on a short-term deal. We kick things off with how that move panned out for the ex-Coventry and Sheffield Wednesday stopper, before diving into all the key action from the Premier League and FA Cup Quarter Finals - including a long-awaited return to action (and subsequent clean sheet) for Arsenal's Bernd Leno. In the EFL, Jamie Cumming, Anthony Patterson and Jordan Wright all made claims for Save of the Weekend contenders, while another two klaxons were sounded due to assists from Craig MacGillivray and Jojo Wollacott of Charlton and Swindon respectively.

159: Beesotted take on Talksport's Adrian Durham about James Tarkowski

The Beesotted Brentford Pride of West London Podcast

Dave Lane from Brentford blog Beesotted rang up Adrian Durham on Talksport to take him up on his latest article in the Daily Fail - condoning James Tarkowski's stance to refuse to play for Brentford against Burnley - dubbed #Husky-Gate "James Tarkowski was RIGHT to refuse to play for Brentford against Burnley... why should he try and take points off a team he wants to join and win promotion with?" - Durham Listen for yourself. You will hear Durham comes up with the most simplistic theories for things that are not quite that straight forward. He constantly refers to stats - obviously unaware that stats are not the only way of Brentford identifying (key word that) players as they also use traditional means. He fails to mention that using stats to identify possibly new targets is actually more widespread in the league that one may think. Even Arsenal (the team of which Durham is proudly wearing the shirt) have actually bought outright a football stat company Stat DNA (http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/oct/17/arsenal-place-trust-arsene-wenger-army-statdna-data-analysts) - only that story is not so interesting for Durham. He also keeps banging on about how Brentford 'sacked' Mark Warburton (we won't even dwell on that … its old hat …. and not quite correct) - whereas only two years ago he was lambasting Warburton and the system he was using for creating a side with two many loan players - LoanFord (http://bit.ly/1V5bzAy). He bangs on about loyalty. And why should Tarkowski show loyalty to an owner who showed a previous manager no loyalty? Quite frankly that is a gibberish argument. Surely you should show loyalty to your team mates and also fans who pay your wages. Never mind having some values and … manners. The saddest thing is ... as an Arsenal fan who occasionally finds himself down at Peterboro .. Durham doesn't seem to understand the concept of a player being contracted to one team .. being paid by that one team ... and then playing for that team week in an week out because that is what he is paid to do. The irony (or should we say hypocrisy) of the Daily Fail lambasting the junior doctors for striking but then condoning a footballer for doing exactly the same thing is quite frankly laughable. The parallel would be TalkSport giving him Durham a 3 year contract .. then the BBC trying to headhunt him (fat chance .. but you get the drift) .. Talksport knocking them back as the BBC refused to pay the remaining years of his contract … and Durham then sulking and refusing to do his show. Ironically, Andre Gray - who Durham was only too happy to chirp on about being signed by Burnley - was subject to a £6m plus bid by Bristol City a few weeks before his move to the North East. He looked all set to move to City. However, he still played against them at Ashton Gate and even scored. His theory that Tarkowski may not have wanted to help his new team (Burnley) to win while playing for the team he is contracted to (Brentford) - even though a deal is far from being done - is quite frankly laughable. And makes you think - why have we spent so much time trying to pick holes in his argument. We will be discussing this plus much more on the Beesotted PrideOfWest.London podcast this week so subscribe on itunes with this link http://bit.ly/BeesottedItunes #BrentfordFC #BurnleyFC #posh
