Dave Watson, Everton's most-recent trophy-winning captain, is Chris Beesley's latest guest on Goodison Park: My Home. The centre-half was the Blues' skipper when they defeated Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United side 1-0 in the 1995 FA Cup final and recalls an incredible story about what happened to the famous silverware that night after the Wembley victory. Scouser Watson, who grew up on Boundary Street, close to the new Everton Stadium, started his professional career across Stanley Park with Liverpool – for whom his brother Alex later played – but never made a first team appearance before joining Norwich City in 1980. While with the Canaries, he made his England debut, winning his first of 12 caps for the Three Lions, in a 2-0 win over Brazil in the Maracana Stadium before lifting the League Cup the following year. He returned to his home city in 1986 when Howard Kendall snapped him up for Everton for a then club record £900,000 fee and was part of their last League Championship-winning side in his first season at Goodison Park. Now 63, Watson made 528 appearances for the Blues – the third highest in history behind Neville Southall (751) and Brian Labone (534) – and also had a stint as caretaker manager in 1997 following Joe Royle's exit before having a season in charge of Tranmere Rovers in 2001/02 to serve all three of Merseyside's professional football clubs. The Premier League has given us some midweek fixtures this week, so of course we thought we'd treat you to two Football Fill-In 's in one week! Kicking the show off today, we had to start with Arsenal vs Manchester United. Arsenal looked very dominant from those set pieces and we had our expert, Dave Watson dive in, to give his analysis on how good they actually are… Moving up north to Newcastle, they faced Liverpool in a frantic 3-3 draw, we looked at how good Salah was, that Isak goal, and should have Kelleher caught that ball for that Newcastle equaliser? Chelsea won 5-1 to Southampton and they looked very dominant, a few clumsy mistakes from the Southampton team which lead them to getting a red card, to make it a walk in the park for Chelsea. Manchester City are BACK to winning ways too, in a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest, but is the problem solved in Manchester? Sean Dyche's Everton beat Wolves in a convincing 4-0 win, in a game where both managers are under pressure, will Gary O'Neil get the sack? Moving onto Aston Villa, they beat Brentford 3-1 with Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers being the standout performers. Will Brentford and Thomas Frank get round to improving this away record? Ruud Van Nistlerooy took his first game in charge for Leicester City and they looked great, beating West Ham 3-1 at home, which now mounts the pressure on Julen Lopetegui and his time at West Ham. Our final game is Ipswich vs Crystal Palace where Mateta strikes it home to win 1-0 and there's now questions on whether Ipswich will slowly fade into that relegation zone as that gap increases. Link to the Mads Hermansen Fozcast episode below!
Fergus Craig, Paul Doolan and Dave Watson are back to look at what's gone wrong since the last Natter. Have we been found out? Is Howe on the precipice? Are we about where we should be and actually not doing much worse than previous seasons? All that and we look ahead to Liverpool and Brentford. newcastlepodcast.com @newcastlenatter Produced by Paul Myers and Mike Leigh A Playback Media Production playbackmedia.co.uk Copyright 2024 Playback Media Ltd - playbackmedia.co.uk/copyright Learn more about your ad choices. It was GOALS GALORE in the Premier League this weekend!! On the Football Fill-In today we have Ben Foster, Darren Bent, Dave Watson and Tom Ochoa as we talk about this weekend of fixtures! Our first game starts off with the Super Sunday match, which was Liverpool vs Manchester City. What is going on at City and is Pep losing the plot? We discuss all on this game and how it's now Liverpools title to lose… Moving on, Chelsea beat Villa 3-0 in a convincing win, we had a look at their upcoming fixtures and it looks good for them, could they push for a title charge?! West Ham vs Arsenal saw seven goals in the first half which could lead to worrying times for West Ham and Julen Lopetegui. Manchester United are off the mark with their first win in the PL under Ruben Amorim with a 4-0 victory over Everton, with one manager coming in, will one manager be coming out in the name of Sean Dyche? We also discuss Marcus Rashford going to the USA and how good Amad Diallo was! Looking at the game in the midlands, we head to Wolves in a thrilling 4-2 defeat to Bournemouth. Wolves gave away three penalties which could all have been avoided, but in doing so, Bournemouth broke two Premier League records with Evanilson being the first to win a hat-tick of penalties and Justin Kluivert the first to score a hat-trick of penalties! Brentford's AMAZING home record continues with a 4-1 win over Leicester as Ruud van Nistelrooy watches in the stands with the owners. Kevin Schade scores a hat-tick and he is the 2nd Brentford player to score a PL hat-tick with the first being Ivan Toney! Staying in London, Spurs hosted Fulham as they drew 1-1, which leads to Spurs fans being frustrated with the lack of consistency with results. Crystal Palace host Newcastle, and Palace were dominant and deserved a point going right to the final whistle. A potential worrying time for Newcastle as they only managed 1 shot the whole game with 0 being on target. Isak also comes off injured too which doesn't look good for the Magpies. Moving to the final two games, Brighton hosted Southampton on Friday night, which caused a divide in opinion in the studio today with that Adam Armstrong offside. Do you think the goal should have counted? Finally, Forest beat Ipswich 1-0 with a Chris Wood penalty taking them to 6th in the table! Learn more about your ad choices. We're joined by Dave Watson today who gives his opinions on the suggestions you guys made. Some examples include, players not walking on the badge when walking out for a warm up, players not celebrating against former clubs, players celebrating blocks/saves and many more! Ben also talks about his interactions with players when the game has finished and why players cover their mouth when talking to other players on the pitch! This week on the Football Fill-In we have Ben Foster, Darren Bent, Dave Watson and Tom Ochoa on the show! We have also spruced up our set so we hope you all like it! The first game this week was Leicester vs Chelsea with Enzo Maresca going back to his old club, but the big talking point was Steve Cooper being sacked from Leicester. Who's going to replace him? Speaking of managers, Ruben Amorim had his first game against newly promoted Ipswich, but it wasn't the start that they hope for! Moving to the other Manchester Club, Man City signed Pep Guardiola on another 2 year contact but that wasn't enough to stop spurs as they thrashed City 4-0 away from home! Cunha stars for Wolves as they win 4-1 vs Fulham, giving Wolves back to back wins in the Premier League! Arsenal shine as Odegaard returns in 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest. Bens former Watford teammate Joao Pedro was involved for two goals for Brighton as they get a 2-1 win over Bournemouth! Will Brighton make it into the Champions League spots? Speaking of Bens former teammates, Ismaïla Sarr scores his first PL goal in over three years as Palace get a draw against Aston Villa! The final draw of the weekend was Everton vs Brentford which finished 0-0. Will Brentford improve that away record? The final fixture we talked about was Southampton vs Liverpool, in a game where people thought Liverpool were going to run riot, Southampton showed their strength but Salahs penalty was enough for them to get the three points as they sit top of the table. Thank you all for watching!! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
We're back for Season 12 of the Fozcast and we start with a belter! We are joined by the main man Dave Watson for this episode and we received so many questions from you guys that we can even do a part 3 or even a part 4!!! The Football Fill-In has got a great line-up this week with Ben Foster, Dave Watson, Ben Tozer and former Leeds Legend, Stuart Dallas! On today's Premier League show we talk about Brighton's INCREDIBLE 2-1 win over Manchester City and the talks around if City will retain their title this season after a FOURTH defeat in a row! We then move on to Liverpool with Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah's goals seeing off Aston Villa, putting them at the top of the table going into the international break. The London Derby between Chelsea and Arsenal ended 1-1, but the Gunners could have nicked it at the end through Leandro Trossard. Staying in West London, Brentford's home form continued as they saw off AFC Bournemouth 3-2 in an entertaining spectacle that saw Yoanne Wissa bag another two! We had a MASSIVE shock down at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with Ipswich stunning Spurs with a 2-1 win which is their first win of the season! Looking at the other two London clubs at home this weekend, we had Palace vs Fulham where there are now questions about Oliver Glasner's future at the club, but will their form improve with their injury list building? West Ham drew 0-0 against Everton, with both GK's showing great performances here and we have our two GKs analyse their performance on the show. Ruud van Nistelrooy got another win to end his short reign in charge at Manchester United versus Leicester, but has recently been confirmed (after the show) that he has left the Red Devils, was this a good decision from the club? Newcastle beat the Nottingham Forest 3-1 away from home with players like goals from Alexander Isak, Joelinton and Harvey Barnes shining. Finally, Wolves beat Southampton 2-0 at home, which could be a job saver for Gary O'Neil.... We break each game down into more detail on the show and make sure you watch to the end to see who wins in the Football Fill-In quiz! Learn more about your ad choices. The latest guest in our Bred A Blue podcast series is former central defender, Neil Moore. Moore is a lifelong Evertonian who lived the dream… just! He played six senior games for his beloved Blues under Howard Kendall and Mike Walker before accepting that the level of competition was always going to be just too much. “I had Dave Watson, Kevin Ratcliffe, Martin Keown, David Unsworth, Gary Ablett all ahead of me,” he recalls. After progressing through the ranks, Moore made his debut at Goodison Park in October 1992. Everton defeated Rotherham United 3-0 with Moore replacing Barry Horne in the 87th minute. “Howard sent me on up front and all I did was run around for three minutes without touching the ball,” he says. “I got slaughtered for that in the dressing room afterwards!” Two of his subsequent Premier League appearances for Everton were against Manchester United and Arsenal, so Moore found himself competing against the likes of Paul Merson, Kevin Campbell, Eric Cantona and Mark Hughes. He also played 45 minutes as an emergency striker again alongside Peter Beardsley at Goodison against Sheffield United! Like every player who worked with Howard Kendall, Moore was immensely fond of him, describing him as a ‘fantastic character and a brilliant man' but he admits that he got more of a sniff when Mike Walker came in. “It's all about opinions and about trust, and Mike trusted me,” he says, “which was fantastic from my point of view.” Eventually though, Moore realised that his future lay beyond Goodison Park, ‘Joe Royle just didn't fancy me which was fair enough because that's football' and, ironically, it was Walker who offered him a way out – taking him to Norwich City. However, a friendly fixture at Carrow Road while he was still technically on loan, ruined his chances of a lengthy career in Norfolk. Norwich were playing West Ham but the referee called it off because the stadium was shrouded in thick fog. “You couldn't see the half-way line,” says Moore. That's when it got bizarre! The referee refused to take the game, so an appeal went out and a qualified official happened to be in the crowd. He duly officiated the game, in ridiculous conditions, and Moore suffered the most horrendous bad luck. “I broke two vertebrae in my spine so the chance of playing in the Championship was basically over before it had begun.” As enthusiastic an Evertonian as you could ever wish to meet, Neil Moore went on to have a long-playing career at lower league and non-league level and his love for the Blues has never wavered. He recalls his days of cleaning Neville Southall's boots (after first knocking on the men's dressing room door to be allowed in), buying chocolate bars with the coins intended to wash the kit in the laundrette, being coached by Mike Lyons and Jimmy Gabriel, and much, much more!
As the domestic and European football returns, David Mooney is joined by City fan Richard Burns and the presenter with FourFourTwo and City fan Adam Monk to preview the games with Wolves and Sparta Prague. Dave Azzopardi from Talking Wolves discusses how things are going at Molineux after a less-than-ideal start to the season, while Mike Samir from the Vládci Prahy podcast gives us insight into what to expect from Sparta Prague. If you'd like to donate to the film, you can do that here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/dave-watson-documentary And, with Thomas Tuchel announced as the new England coach following speculation that Pep Guardiola might be the FA's target, what does that mean for the manager's future at City? ========== To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon. Scotland has practically the largest units of local government in the world. An average Scottish council has 175,000 people compared to an average across the EU of 10,000. There seems to be widespread consensus that something needs to be done about the over-centralisation of Scotland, but little agreement about what that should be. A group of individuals from a range of backgrounds - activists, academics, trade unionists and more - have set themselves the task of raising the profile of this democratic deficit and engaging the public and politicians in a discussion about how to address it. Indypodcasters have been presenting a series of podcasts on the topic of the kind of national conversation Scots are having and this seemed a perfect fit for that series so we went along to the launch event which was held in Edinburgh on 9th September 2024.
