“Peace be with you”. Those were the first words spoken from the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica to the massive crowd below by the newly chosen pontiff, now known as Pope Leo XIV.133 cardinals from around the world voted in a handful of rounds before the final decision was made and the white smoke billowed from the Sistene Chapel chimney.Formerly Cardinal Robert Prevost, Leo is the first pope from the United States – a choice that shocked some and has many wondering what this may signal.Host Melanie Ng speaks with religious scholar Héctor Acero Ferrer from the Institute for Christian Studies about the new pontiff and how he will position himself on the world stage. I'm originally from Ohio, and lived there for 12 years. Grew up Catholic (I'm a recovering Catholic now) and played every sport known to man when I was a little kid. Became a Steelers fan back then. Steel Curtain and all that. Got in a lot of trouble in school too. (No surprise to those of you that know me). At 12, we moved to a little 'burb outside Philadelphia where I was one of three gentiles in the entire town. I had an entire drawer of Yamikas. That was great...they were warm on my head and velour. In between 10th and 11th grade my parents decided it would be a great idea to move down to a little redneck town in Florida called Spring Hill, which I hated for every second I was down there. (Well, except for you Renee...you rocked.) In fact, I think my bags were packed on stage as I accepted my high school diploma. I bolted back to Philly and had stops in Newark DE, Long Beach Island NJ, and Palm Beach FL, where I graduated from music school. I then finished up undergrad at Temple University in Philly and studied communication, and this new thing called the "Internet". (It was 1994). I became a web designer, and worked that field for 15 years. I still do design and development, but only if you hold a gun to my head. In 1997 I moved to Boulder Colorado, and have lived there and in Denver for almost 13 years, until 2012 when I moved to San Diego. After a few brief stints working for other people, I found myself to be truly unemployable around 2005, and have been on the entrepreneurial track ever since. From 2004-2008, my parents would fall ill, and basically "level" me in all aspects of my life. Emotionally, financially, etc...They both passed away in 2007, just 7 months apart. I tried to "muddle" through 2008, and didn't have much success. But I decided to take actual time to mourn, so in 2009, thanks to my wonderful friend Melanie, I went to Europe to spread their ashes everywhere I could. You see, I had a "dream" as an adult to surprise my parents with a trip to Europe, so this was my best substitution. So, I got a little Italian Parmesan Cheese shaker, and I ventured off into the wild blue yonder. And they are *everywhere*. In the Sistene Chapel, the Beaches of Normandy, Notre Dame...you name it, they're there. I arrived back in the States, healed, broke, and happier than I'd been in years. But I knew that I no longer wanted to trade a dollar for an hour, so I went looking for something else. That's when network marketing and internet marketing found me. It's been 4 years since I found that world, and the transformation it's made in my life has been nothing but profound. I've met amazing people in the network marketing, internet marketing, life coaching, and entrepreneurship world. Every single day I learn from them and they impact me. In August 2013, I started a Podcast called The Solopreneur Hour - Job Security for the Unemployable.   This is a unique guest mix. I have no idea what artists are in this mix, whether it's all samples or parts of pieces or original sounds or what. It is a collage of sound including many vocal snippets. Found sounds and music wash in and out, creating a hypnotic experience, unlike most Low Light Mixes. The creator of this collage of sound sent along this rather lengthy explanation of this mix: "I remember when we as a family used to visit our cousins at the weekends, generally good times and good memories.  I remember when I was around five or six, on one of these visits, my cousins showing some of my brothers and sisters and myself, a new pop-up book one had been given as a present.  Being very young themselves, they were most definitely in charge of this wonder and so as they very guardedly turned the pages they, very excitedly had to get on to the next pages as quickly as possible, to show their 'girls only' cousins their magnificent possessions.  So I would see these amazing pop-up book images showing incredible colour explosions in abstract shapes but never having enough time to absorb them fully before pages were flipped.  This only added to their strangeness and mystery.  When one sees fleeting images on pages being turned, in picture books that someone else is flicking through or advertisements and billboards, rapidly passing by while travelling on the bus or the subway, this recollection of blurred colours and sounds always pops up.  Murals also have a similar quality of being a transient experience, they have their own unique story to tell yet, I get the feeling that they seem to saying more than I am getting from them.  Also at a young age, seeing the Sistene Chapel and the masterful baroque murals and frescoes on the fuzzy TV screen, as the camera glided, seemingly all too quickly over, just left me with an impression of a quiet cacophony of sounds and music telling a story of the ages.  The convoluted colours and shapes seemed to run and blend into each other in a way that seemed cosmic in nature. To me, they left the feeling that they made strange, nebulous sounds.  One part of a mural can often pictorially seem to bare no relation to another part, yet I'm sure the artists' have a story of their own they are conveying and on their own terms, more power to them.  These expressions, no matter what the subject or intention, whether they are small in scale or panoramic, speak to the individual, of their offerings and each is yet another expression of
an aspect of a specific observation of life, giving back, anything from another supernova exploding an outrage at injustice, an insight to meaning, another flower bluming.  It's all relative, each work another perspective on what is.
Space Book could be thought of as an aural mural - a 'Maural' if you will.  I would like to thank all of the contributors to this project whose work is the foundations upon which this stands and the glue that holds this piece together.  Space Book - A Pop-Up Book Of Space by See'd" I hope you enjoy this hallucinogenic side trip. Cheers!

Michelangelo’s incredibly long career meant that he was old for a very long time, and the idea of death, and of what comes afterwards, hang over many of the projects he worked on late in life. We discuss his pivotal role in the design of St Peter’s in Rome, the sombre and terrible ‘Last Judgement’ in the Sistene Chapel, and a series of fragmentary late drawings, designs and sculptures which seem to be pointing to the future and the past at the same time. It’s been about four hours of solid Michelangelo now, and it’s time to send him (and the other cast of characters) into the tender arms of our Lord & Saviour. It'll be back to late Capitalism next time.
