I read every book from cover to cover each week. It's the only way, for me, to feel confident in conversing with my guests as the discussions are not interrogations, but rather provide a flow of good, beneficial information that listeners can take away and incorporate into their lives. This book, I also read. But more importantly, I felt it. I cried through almost the entire book. I had to take out my contacts and wear glasses, which I learned, steam up. I kept reading and I kept crying. When I put the book down, I felt so different. SO DIFFERENT. It was a positive transformation I did not see coming at all. No matter your belief system, no matter how you view what praying is or what prayers are, I truly believe if you read this book with mindfulness and a willingness to open your heart, you too, will be changed for the better. For me, it was immediate. So, check out the show and get excited about praying in a way that is truly beneficial.

Everything you do is a prayer. Every thought, every word, every action. Given that, whatever you've got going on in your life is what you've been praying for - sometimes consciously, but often unconsciously. If you wnat something different in your lifee, you must pray a different prayer. This is not formal prayer for intercession, forgiveness, or help. These prayers are the way we think, act, speak to ourselves and others. Whatever you're thinking about (and therefore praying about) wil manifest in your life. If you worry about not having enough money or love the Univesrse will respond with a resounding YES, you don't. If you complain, I am fat or I am poor, the response, Yes, you are fat or you are poor. If you want change, change the language of your prayers: your thoughts, words, actions. Host Note: I read every book from cover to cover each week. Steve Biddulph on Raising Boys

Australian author and psychologist Steve Biddulph was one of the first to highlight the unique needs of boys. In the mid-1990s, "Steve went out on a limb to stand up for boys and men in a time when, culturally, the focus was really on girls and women," Janet says. His books, including The Secrets of Happy Children and Manhood, have been translated into more than 30 languages. The 1997 classic Raising Boys: Why Boys are So Different - and How to Help Them Become Happy and Well-Balance Men changed the way Janet taught and influenced a generation of parents and teachers. Steve completed updated the book in 2018; Raising Boys in the 21st Century: How to Help Our Boys Become Open-Hearted, Kind and Strong Men addresses the concerns and challenges facing today's parents of boys. Now, we know that boys' brains develop on a different trajectory than girls'. The part of the brain that handles language, for instance, matures more slowly in males than in females, which is one reason why boys aren't as verbal as girls (generally speaking), especially when it comes to emotions. But a tendency isn't destiny; with that knowledge in hand, parents can make a concerted effort to stimulate their son's language development by reading to him, singing to him and talking with him often. A basic knowledge of boy development, coupled with general familiarity with the many challenges boys face, will help you parent your son. ("There are risk factors to being a boy," Steve says, pointing out that males are 3 times more likely to die by age 25 than females.) Learning more about the "Full-On 4s" and the "Emotional 8s" will increase your understanding of your son, so you can respond more effectively to his mood changes and growth. However, it's absolutely essential for you to get to know -- and support -- your son as a unique individual. There is no boy quite like your boy. (Jen missed this conversation after realizing that Fri. in Tasmania is Thursday in the U.S -- and her son's biggest soccer game of the season thus far was at the exact same time as this conversation. Good news: They won, and Jen didn't miss her son's first varsity start!) In this episode, Janet & Steve discuss: How cultural changes have affected dads and boys What modern dads get right How parents can stimulate boys' communication skills The link between testosterone levels and reading difficulties The problem with early formal education -- and the benefits of delaying school entry How shame harms boys Adrenarche and the "emotional 8s" (Spoiler: there's a biological reason 8 & 9 yr old boys are often easily upset!) How to talk to boys about pornography Why you MUST point out the differences between lovemaking and porn Talking to boys about sexually aggressive girls Setting expectations with your teen (Hint: you have to listen to them too) How Steve's love of children fuels his humanitarian work Links we mentioned (or should have) in this episode: stevebiddulph.com -- Steve's online home Steve Biddulph's Raising Boys -- Steve's FB community Talking to Boys About Sexually Aggressive Girls -- classic BuildingBoys post Talk to Boys about Sex (w Amy Lang) -- ON BOYS episode 110 21st Century Sex Ed (w Jo Langford) -- ON BOYS episode 128 LIKE THIS EPISODE? #149 Get out the wine and the last of the Halloween candy! I’ve been leaning heavy on the experts as of late, and it was about damn time we had an unfiltered mom podcast full of laughter, commiseration, and perfectionism undone. TV star Claire Coffee played Adalind on NBC’s supernatural show GRIMM for six seasons. She, along with her musician husband Chris Thile (Yo Yo Ma told him where to get the engagement ring), and their son 2.5 year-old Calvin, rocked out at our home between A Prairie Home Companion with Chris Thile west coast shows. We talk about the struggle between being creatively fulfilled and getting Mom sh*t done, mama separation anxiety, traveling the world with a toddler, and how parenting is SO DIFFERENT with Ellie’s second child. We love to play into the ridiculousness of our wacky family life with our creative husbands, and jokingly give ourselves and each other a hard time in this episode, but I’d be remiss not to say Claire Coffee is one of the most generous and thoughtful women on this planet and a huge reason this podcast exists. We all need a mom friend who commiserates but doesn’t accept any self-defeating excuses and sends tubs of ice cream when you’re on bed rest. xx Ellie KnausJoin our Private Facebook Group!Show Notes and Streaming: atomicmoms.com Instagram: @atomicmoms, @clairecoffeeSubscribe: Itunes.com/atomicmoms

Show Notes for Podcast 27 “We Need Each Other” Bible Passages: Acts 1:12-14 Are we really SO Different or are we more the same? What is your child’s Label? Diagnosis? Struggle? Are our children so very different or more the same? Do you know a child with Downs who needs the same kind of therapy as a child with Autism? Do you know a child diagnosed with ADHD who can benefit from the gifts and talents and personality of a child with CP? Increase your circle of friends regardless of diagnoses. A child with Dyslexia could benefit from being friends with a child with high functioning Autism who writes easily. A child is a child. We are more the same than we are different, no matter what our issues, capabilities, gifts, concerns. In fact, a child with even multiple disabilities is more like a typical child than they are not. A child is a child. It is NEVER too late. There is always HOPE. Digging In with Allison Dore

Jahte Le is an actor, director, producer, writer, dancer, and former grape in a Welch's commercial. He is in the movie Sky Jackers which premiered at TIFF 2016 and produced the short film Next Stop, which was most recently shown at the Calgary International Film Festival, and won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Film at the Dances With Film Festival in Los Angeles, the first comedy to ever do so. We talk about art, how he started living alone at AGE EIGHT, (EIGHT!), and how he wants to have a bushel of kids. His non-typical life (from a North American standpoint) influenced who he is and what he creates. It was a great conversation for me because we are SO DIFFERENT, and in many ways so the same.
