Mark's most recent book, "Between The Listening And The Telling" is a beautiful journey of adventure, hope, longing, and mystery that invites us to all embrace our own stories as the way through which we find salvation. This weekend we were immersed in this ancient practice and compelled to revisit and remember the same God, Jesus, and Spirit that has been co-authoring our stories with us since the very beginning.

The Jewish and Christian faiths exist because of the events that happened in a particular place and time. On March 10, 2019, Spark Church in partnership with four other organizations, hosted a public conversation between Justin Lee and Preston Sprinkle on the topic of sexuality, scripture, and the soul of christianity. If you haven’t watched or listened to that event, I highly recommend doing so before listening to these follow-up conversations because for that particular event, our main focus was to model and engage in respectful and humble dialogue on one of the most divisive issues facing the church. I’m deeply grateful to Justin and Preston for holding that space, and for them incarnating that ethic, and being exemplars for The Church as a whole. Because time is always a frustrating constraint, Justin and Preston have graciously agreed to these follow up podcast interviews where we address some of the top questions that were submitted, and dig far deeper into the implications of each of their views. These interviews are based on that same ethic, and it is our hope that these conversations equip us with a better understanding of the arguments, the theologies, and the humanity of the perspectives, so that we all can be better followers of Jesus as a result.

In episode 22, we talk with our returning guest, Kevin Neuner from Spark Church, about parenting through deconstruction. It can be hard to talk about God, spirituality, and church as you’re reimagining or reconstructing your faith. We talk about being a sojourner alongside your kids rather than prescribing “right beliefs” and how children can be a valuable sage in our journey. Kevin draws on decades of studying the Rabbinic traditions and way of Jesus to invite us to a new posture for parenting.

This week we invite a guest speaker, Roger Burns, to bring a message that suits the end of the book of Acts very well. Acts ends with "The Church" multiplying by planting more and more local churches. Roger Burns has accepted the calling to plant a church in a local city of Jacksonville, NC. He is an excellent communicator and one who you can't help but notice he loves Jesus and wants to serve Him. In pursuit of our value for Reconciliation, we continue to seek out various ways to practice what we preach, whether through racial reconciliation, interfaith reconciliation, or simply reconciliation between neighbors and family members. Many Sparkers have expressed a desire to understand modern Jewish practice and experience a Shabbat service, so Congregation Etz Chayim graciously invited us to their Friday evening, Shabbat Service on December 13, 2013. In preparation, Rabbi Ari visited Spark Church to teach us a few prayers and songs, allowing us not just to spectate but to participate during our visit. In addition, Pastor Danielle shares insights on how to have interfaith dialogue.

Special guest Rabbi Ari Cartun of Etz Chayim synagogue shares a few personal and theological reflections on why Etz Chayim rents its facility to Spark Church. This message is our first installment for our "Reconciliation" value as we learn how to love, respect, and be reconciled to each other in the midst of history, differences, and distinctions we may have.
