On this week's podcast we begin to turn our attention to the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus by prayerfully reflecting on the Stations of the Cross. For our reflection we are using Mary's Way of the Cross by Richard G. Furey C.Ss.R. This Way of the Cross takes us through each station through the eyes and heart and mind of Our Blessed Mother - Mary, the Mother of God and our Mother too. As Richard says "Mary stood by her Son throughout His passion, and in her faith, experienced the joy of His resurrection. In part one we have our regular run through the up coming liturgical odds and ends. In part three we have our reflection on the Sunday gospel which is John's account of Jesus and the Woman caught in adultery which continues the theme of God's mercy from last Sunday's gospel of the Prodigal Son. Jesus' suffering on the cross can make it seem like God is distant or mean. And it becomes hard to authentically trust God's feelings toward us if we see him as someone who turned away from his own son. Thankfully, looking at the crucifixion with spiritual eyes shows us that Jesus is not only unforsaken at the cross — he's deeply loved.Tune in for this episode of Soul Talks as Bill and Kristi share incredible insight about Jesus' interaction with his Papa during his suffering and death. Seeing Abba's care for Jesus as he took humanity's sin upon himself will encourage you to draw love, strength, comfort, and joy from your Father in the middle of your brokenness and shame. We had tears of laughter numerous times on this rollercoaster of an episode with Sam Francis (@dropsofpoopitervtg). He didn't smoke a lick but somehow it's one of the highest eps we've done. Sam gives us a breakdown of the Catholic tradition The Stations of the Cross, and brings his own bluetooth speaker to hype himself up. Make sure you catch the improv scene at the end, it's one of my favorites: Jesus attending a funeral and for some reason he sounds like Jason Statham. Follow Sam's vintage hockey page @dropsofpoopitervtg, and Jan 20th Water Tower Park at 12 pm join the @pslchicago protest against Trump's extreme right agenda. Jan 25th at Bricktown see Sam's band All The Way Nasty at the Rock Lotto Show.

Egeria (or Etheria) was a woman who embarked on a three-year pilgrimage to the Holy Land, in the late fourth century. From her “pilgrimage diary” (actually fragments from her letters to her “sisters” back in Spain) we learn much about liturgy in Jerusalem. There we can see the beginnings of the lectionary, and the seeds of the Stations of the Cross. In this episode, Dr. Papandrea also talks about the history of the spiritual discipline of pilgrimage itself. These are the Stations of the Cross as written by Fr. Simoulin SSPX. I'm re-publishing it in a slower manner, for I read it too rapidly a few years ago. I hope you can pray it devoutly this time.
We hope that these prayers will be a powerful companion on this Lenten journey and suggest you listen to this meditation while walking as they are traditionally experienced. You are also invited to pause between stations to extend this prayer session as long as you like. We are grateful to The Rt. Rev. Frank and Victoria Logue for writing these beautiful prayers and for recording these stations. And to The Rev. Jane Gober who organized this reading and added her voice to the recording session. --- Learn more about Membership here. Support the Hive by becoming a Patreon member. I forget sometimes that we all need healing. I know we pray for the healing of others - all the time. But I forget that we ourselves suffer the wounds of loving them.

God is reaching out to us in innumerable ways, but the greatest demonstration of his love is through the Incarnation. We often reflect on Jesus' suffering on the cross but may overlook the suffering he also endured while taking on human flesh and living among us.Join us for this episode of Soul Talks as Bill and Kristi discuss how God's perfect empathy is revealed in his Incarnation. Meditating on Hebrews 4:15 and focusing on his experiences of suffering will help you find confidence in Jesus' empathy for you in your trials. As you grow in this grace through community, your wounds can bring healing to others.Resources for this Episode:Attend a Soul Shepherding Institute RetreatEarn a Certificate in Spiritual DirectionEarn a Certificate in CoachingUnforsaken: Journey with Jesus on the Stations of the CrossDonate to Support Soul Shepherding and Soul Talks
