In this message from Matthew 15:29–16:4, Pastor Karl examines two very different groups of people who come to Jesus — and what their approach reveals about how we receive grace. The first group comes from the Decapolis, a Gentile region with no religious standing or covenant claim. They bring broken bodies, unspoken needs, and nothing to offer — and Jesus meets them with compassion, healing, and even provision they didn't know to ask for. The second group, the Pharisees and Sadducees, arrives with suspicion and a demand for proof — and Jesus refuses to perform for them. The contrast surfaces a powerful truth: Jesus has endless compassion for those who come to him needy, but no obligation to satisfy those who come feeling entitled. Unworthiness isn't a disqualification for grace — it's the prerequisite for it.Pastor Karl unpacks why the disciples hesitated to feed the 4,000 (it wasn't that they forgot what Jesus could do — it was that they questioned who he'd do it for), what it really means to "fall from grace," and why the cross is the only reliable lens through which to interpret God's love. When we bring our "not enough" to Jesus, we find that inadequacy is exactly the raw material he's looking for.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

Jesus prays for his own, who are his Father's children, that they would have unity and possess eternal life.
In this message from our 1 Corinthians series, Joe Macnamara explores how the wisdom of the cross turns the values of the world upside down. Looking at Paul's words to the church in Corinth, we're reminded that God's power is revealed not through status, strength, or human wisdom, but through Jesus Christ crucified. This sermon invites us back to the centre of the gospel — finding our confidence, identity, and hope in Christ alone.

In the cross we see a double movement of judgment for the severity of sin and forgiveness based on the costly sacrifice of Jesus. Pastoral Resident Scot Bommarito shares how the Gospel invites us to ponder both truths as we fix our eyes on the cross of Christ.
Blood sacrifice shows us just how serious sin is and the cost that must be paid in order to be right with God. By looking deeply into the stages of biblical sacrifice we grow in our appreciation of Jesus as the final sacrifice. The spotless Lamb who took our place so we don't have to keep trying to earn forgiveness. The good news is simple: you don't work your way to God. Christ already did everything, and you just receive it by faith.
This exploration of John 14:6 takes us into what it means when Jesus declares, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life.' Throughout the Gospel of John, the word 'life' appears 36 times, revealing that this isn't just a theological concept but the very heartbeat of our faith. We discover that life with Jesus unfolds in four profound dimensions. First, Jesus is the beginning of life—the One who spoke creation into existence and continues to offer us new beginnings in our marriages, failures, addictions, and purpose. Second, He is the essence of life itself, the only source that can truly satisfy the deep thirst in our souls. Like the woman at the well who went from relationship to relationship seeking fulfillment, we often search for satisfaction in temporary things. But Jesus offers living water that quenches our deepest longings. Third, He is the strength for life—the bread that sustains us through the wilderness of our daily struggles. His presence and His suffering give us the power to persevere when we feel we cannot go on. Finally, and most significantly, Jesus is the hope of eternal life. The resurrection isn't just a historical event to debate; it's the foundation of our faith and the answer to the deepest longing written into our souls. We were made for eternity, and death affects us differently than it does the animal kingdom because we carry eternal souls. In Christ, we find not just life for today, but life forever.
By Michael A. Youssef, Ph.D. Read John 13:1-17. The cross wasn't a last-minute tragedy—it was the central purpose of Jesus' earthly life. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef shows how Jesus lived with unwavering clarity about His mission: to finish the work the Father gave Him. From the wedding at Cana to His final meal with the disciples, Christ repeatedly referred to the coming “hour”—the hour of His sacrifice, when He would finally declare, “It is finished.” You'll see this focus unfold in three powerful moments: Cana (John 2): Even at His first miracle, Jesus points beyond the celebration to the cross—“My hour has not yet come.” Feast of Tabernacles (John 7): In the face of rising opposition and threats, Jesus remains steady because His time is under the Father's control. The Upper Room (John 13): On the eve of betrayal and crucifixion, Jesus washes His disciples' feet, modeling humble love because He knows the hour has arrived. Dr. Youssef reminds us that Jesus embraced the cross as the Father's will—and as His joy—so that sinners could be saved. As you listen, you'll be invited to marvel again at the wonder of God's love: He did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all. Prayer: Jesus, thank You for Your incredible love that led You to the cross in obedience to the Father. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. “Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father” (John 13:1). Learn more in Dr. Michael A. All of us experience times when the same grace that flows through us to others is hard to grasp for ourselves. Sadly our thoughts often slander us the same way religious bullies insulted Jesus: “You saved others but you can't save yourself” (Matthew 27:42 paraphrased). Thankfully we don't have to drown in shame — we can take heart from Jesus on the cross as he leads us into deeper experiences of grace. Tune in for this episode of Soul Talks as Bill and Kristi help us become more enthralled with Jesus this Holy Week. You'll experience him more personally and empathetically as you share in his experience of spiritual and emotional anguish on the cross. The Suffering Savior invites you to borrow his faith and trust that God is with you, loving you, and pleased with you as you grow in union with God and mature to become more like him. Send a textIn this sermon, The Tale of Two Saviors, we explore one of the most shocking moments in the Passion story recorded in Matthew 27:15–26—when the crowd was given a choice between Jesus Barabbas and Jesus the Messiah. At first glance, the decision seems unbelievable. Why would anyone choose a violent insurrectionist over the innocent Son of God?But when we look closer at the historical context, the choice becomes more understandable—and more uncomfortable. Barabbas represented the kind of savior people expected: someone who would fight for their nation, overthrow their enemies, and restore their power. Jesus offered something very different: the way of the cross, forgiveness, and sacrificial love.In this message from our Lent series, Paradox, we wrestle with a difficult question that still confronts us today: Which Savior are we actually following? This episode invites listeners to reflect on the difference between a faith built on power and one shaped by the cross, and to rediscover the hope found in the Savior who carried the cross meant for us.Linkoln shares his story on why he started coming to Ravenna Church of the Nazarene and shares why you should consider doing the same.Ravenna Church of the Nazarene530 Main Street, Ravenna, KY 40472Support the showThe Dirt Path Sermon Podcast is a place for real sermons that speak to real life. Following the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea, the Israelites find themselves in the wilderness—a place of disorientation, testing, and revelation. This sermon explores the "Wilderness" as an evergreen metaphor for the Christian life. It is the mandatory field trip between deliverance and the Promised Land, where our fickle hearts are exposed, and our faith is refined. As we enter the season of Lent and prepare for a congregational digital fast, we examine how the desert serves as a paradox: a place of intense danger and lack, but also the "God country" where miracles and spiritual power are found.Scripture ReferencesExodus 15:22–27: The waters of Mara and the transformation of bitterness.Exodus 16: The grumbling of the community and the provision of manna.Exodus 17:1–7: The striking of the rock at Horeb.1 Corinthians 10:4: Paul's identification of the Rock as Christ.Key PointsThe Paradox of the Desert: The wilderness is both a place of exposure and a place of divine intimacy. It is where visibility is low, familiar markers are gone, and we are forced to put one foot in front of the other. The Necessity of Testing: You cannot trust what has not been tested. The wilderness reveals the true contents of the heart. It is a place of "wrestling" with God, learning to navigate relationship without causing harm. The Teacher is Quiet: In the wilderness, the silence of God during the "test" is a primary challenge. However, promotion and spiritual clarity often lie on the other side of this silence.Fickleness and Unholy Nostalgia: We are prone to wander. Within days of a miracle, we resort to grumbling and "unholy nostalgia"—selectively remembering the "meat pots" of our past captivity while forgetting the chains. The Cross in the Wilderness: * The Tree at Mara: Just as the log made bitter water sweet, the Cross of Christ makes the bitter experiences of life drinkable. The Struck Rock: In a divine reversal, God stands upon the rock to receive the blow of judgment deserved by the grumbling Israelites. Christ is the spiritual Rock who was struck so that we might receive the water of everlasting life.ConclusionThere is no making it through the wilderness by trying harder or merely following rules. We must cling to the Cross. In the desert, pain is not the greatest danger; rather, the danger lies in where we turn for relief. If we turn to Christ, the one who was struck for us, we find that even the most desolate place is filled with His presence.Calls to ActionParticipate in the Digital Fast: Join the church-wide digital fast starting March 1st. Use the provided guide to redirect your focus from screens to God's voice.Identify Your Wilderness: Acknowledge where you are experiencing disorientation or testing. Stop "trying harder" and start clinging to the Cross.Resist Grumbling: Be mindful of the urge to complain or romanticize past sins. The finished work of Christ on the Cross was a great achievement providing a perfect basis for our eternal salvation. On the Cross, Christ provided a perfect salvation for all men, so that we might be saved from sin and all its effects. It consists of 3 aspects: Propitiation (the God-ward aspect), Reconciliation (the man-ward aspect), and Redemption (the sin-ward aspect). We study these 3 aspects in detail, and point out that they are all accomplished in Christ, through His Blood, and only become effectual for us, when we receive Christ as our Lord and Saviour, for only then are we put (baptised) into Christ, where these truths become reality. Explore the significance of being made righteous through faith and how it enables us to walk in the fullness of God's grace.

This is the last weekend before we enter the seven weeks of Lent, during which we mediate on the suffering and death of Jesus and its meaning for sinners. Our theme this weekend leads us into that thoughtful meditation. Why was the cross necessary? What was accomplished through it? We will be singing "In the Cross of Christ I glory" by John Bowring this weekend. This hymn is more emotional and personal than we might be used to from Lutheran hymn writers. While it is based on truths from Scripture, it is not a teaching hymn, as much as a reflective, contemplative hymn. Galatians 6:14 serves as one of the main passages brought out by this hymn. There Paul writes: "But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world." In both the good and the trouble of this life, the work of Jesus stands as the most important and impactful event of history. It is our comfort in times of trial, and it remains our confidence in times of success. Just as the LORD worked through the good and evil in the lives of His people (like Joseph, David, and Peter), the LORD also sanctifies the good and the bad of your life. He uses it to His glory just as Paul declares in Romans 8:28: "we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." Thanks be to God! Thank Him for the confidence that is ours in sins forgiven and eternal life because of the work of Jesus at the cross. Reflect on that truth during this upcoming Lenten season. Rejoice in the peace and the joy that are now yours by God's grace, through the cross! May the LORD bless your proclamation of His praises this weekend!
Today, Many in America Live and Act as “enemies of the Cross of Christ” Thereby, Traveling the Road to Eternal Death MESSAGE SUMMARY: God has told us that we are His children and citizens of Heaven. To this end, God has given us the Holy Spirit as a pledge of our inheritance as His child. Also, God gave you the Holy Spirit to provide you with the power to live a Spiritual life. However, far too many continue to live and to act as “enemies of the Cross of Christ” by having their minds focused on earthly things as the lords of life. If this picture of your life-actions and life-focus describes you, then you very well may be on the road to eternal death and destruction. Therefore, you must return to Jesus and His way of doing things – Jesus' pattern of discipleship, servanthood, and submission is a path to your Salvation. Paul, in Philippians 3:18-20, defines an “enemy of the Cross of Christ: “For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.". Jesus Followers have their life-focus driven by the realization that they are His child and a citizen of Heaven; therefore, you and your life-focus, as a Jesus Follower, are all precious to God since He sacrificed so much to adopt you as His child. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, I praise you because your love seeks my good in any and every situation. Forgive me for the seeds that I have squandered. Soften my heart to surrender to your will in and through me. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 120). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Resentment. Rather, I will abide in the Lord's Compassion. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). The cross of Christ is the most important event in all of human history. It is a stumbling block to the proud, and salvation to the humble of heart. There are many malevolent forces that seek to obfuscate the message of the cross. 1 Corinthians 1:18 tells us that "The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God." You can't be middle of the road with the Cross of Christ. God wants you to live. Where do you stand with the message of the Cross?
The Bible warns us to stay focused on Scripture so that we can avoid stumbling into sin. God may use us to intercede on someone else's behalf and help draw them to spiritual safety. Ultimately the first gap that must be crossed is the one between ourselves and God and that is only done through the cross of Jesus Christ.
Have you ever found yourself taking the cross of Christ for granted? As Christians, it's easy for us to get callous towards Calvary but we must remember the amazing love Jesus poured out for us! In this message called, THE CROSS OF CHRIST, Pastor Jeff Schreve shares the prophetic words King David wrote in Psalm 22 regarding the crucifixion of the coming Messiah.
