The Poco a Poco Podcast with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal

Episode 302 - Intimacy with Jesus: Ask, Seek, Knock Have you ever done all the Catholic things but still felt distant from Jesus? In this episode, the friars speak to the person who believes, prays, goes to Mass, tries to live faithfully, and yet still wonders why prayer can feel dry, disconnected, or more like duty than relationship. They explore what it means to move from simply doing the right things to actually bringing your heart to Jesus. This conversation is an invitation to ask, seek, and knock with honesty. What's happening in my heart? Where do I feel blocked, afraid, ashamed, or self-reliant? Where is Jesus inviting me into healing, repentance, formation, and deeper intimacy? The friars offer gentle guidance for learning how to pray with the heart, encounter Jesus in Scripture, and let Him meet the places we often keep hidden or protected. Join us as we learn to bring our whole hearts to Jesus, and rediscover that prayer is not just something we do, but a relationship He longs to deepen. The Poco a Poco podcast happens because of many generous donors, including recurring monthly donations of any amount. Thinking about helping out? You can give at https://spiritjuice.org/supportpoco. I Decree Unbroken Intimacy with Jesus!"Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me." John 15:4 Heavenly Father, I come before You with a heart brimming with gratitude. Thank You for the gift of Your presence, for the promise found in John 15:4-7, where You call us to abide in You. I long to dwell in that sacred space, to feel Your heartbeat syncing with mine, and to experience the overwhelming joy of intimacy with You. As I reflect on the story of Mary at Your feet in Luke 10:38-42, I am reminded of the beauty of prioritizing Your presence. Help me, Lord, to be like Mary — laying aside distractions to soak in Your wisdom. Let my spirit be sensitive to Your whispers, guiding me into deeper understanding and connection. Colossians 1:23 says, "if indeed you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope of the gospel you heard, which has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant."I ask You to restore the fire of my first love, igniting a passion within me that cannot be extinguished. Just as Psalm 27:4 declares the desire to dwell in Your house, may my heart yearn for You alone. Remove any barriers that keep me from fully experiencing Your grace and love. Please sharpen my hearing heart, so I may discern Your voice amidst the clamor of daily life. Guard my devotional altar with divine protection, ensuring that my time with You remains sacred and unbroken. I decree — no, I cry out — for unbroken intimacy with You, Jesus.Draw me close, Lord, and keep me burning bright in Your presence. May my day overflow with Your blessings, and may Your love permeate every moment, drawing others to You through my life. Amen. Psalm 27:4 says, "One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple." Amen.https://maglife.org

What does it look like to stay planted in Jesus when life feels uncertain, uncomfortable, or costly? In episode one of our Summer Recap Series, Shelley Giglio sits down with Grammy Award-winning songwriter, worship leader, and longtime friend Brooke Ligertwood to talk about anointing, obedience, creativity, and surrender. Together, they explore the weight and wonder of being entrusted with God's calling… and how true freedom is often found not in striving, but in faithfully staying with Jesus one day at a time. Brooke shares personal stories about discovering songwriting at a young age, stewarding creativity through both worship, and learning that the goal of her life isn't success or recognition, but simply to remain close to Jesus. Shelley and Brooke also reflect on the beauty of being “good trees” – rooted, nourished, and trusting God alone with the fruit their lives produce. This conversation is for anyone who feels stretched, misunderstood, weary, or unsure of what obedience looks like in this season. You'll walk away encouraged to stay planted, take heart, and trust God with the outcome! If you want more from Brooke, you can find her at @brookeligertwood on Instagram or www.brookeligertwood.com. In Episode 114 of 2 Minute Disciple, host Nick Oyler leads a contemplative devotional through Matthew 7:21–23 — perhaps the most sobering passage in the entire Sermon on the Mount. People who prophesied, cast out demons, and performed miracles — all in Jesus' name — and yet He says: I never knew you. Activity for God is not the same as closeness with God.

MY Devotional: Daily Encouragement from Leading The Way

By Michael A. Youssef, Ph.D. Read John 20:15-18. Mary had likely heard Jesus say He would rise on the third day—yet grief blinded her to hope. Then everything changed with one word: “Mary” (John 20:16). In an instant, sorrow became joy, depression turned to delight, and her tears transformed from sadness to gladness as she recognized her living Savior. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef explains why Jesus' next words matter so deeply: “Do not hold on to me…” (John 20:17). Christ wasn't rejecting Mary—He was preparing her for a new reality. He would ascend to the Father and send the Holy Spirit, the Advocate who makes it possible for every believer to enjoy a deep, intimate, ever-growing relationship with Jesus—every day, everywhere. Dr. Youssef also offers a sobering reminder: many Christians live as though Jesus died but never rose. When we function like the resurrection isn't real, discouragement, hopelessness, and heaviness follow. But the good news is you can return to the empty tomb—renew your surrender to Christ—and exchange depression for delight, because the risen Jesus is with you always and will never let you go (Matthew 28:20). Prayer: Father, You have called me by name, and I belong to You. Therefore, may I live with joy and confidence. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.  “Jesus said to her, ‘Mary.' She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, ‘Rabboni!' (which means ‘Teacher')” (John 20:16). Learn more in Dr. Michael A. Youssef's sermon Our Tears and the Resurrection of Jesus: WATCH NOW | LISTEN NOW The voice you hear on the MY Devotional podcast is digitally generated with Dr. Youssef's permission. What does true closeness with Jesus look like? In this message, Pastor Gregory Dickow breaks it down into four simple types of intimacy—emotional, intellectual, experiential, and spiritual. You'll discover how to share honestly with God, know Him for who He truly is, hear His voice in life-changing ways, and live free from guilt and condemnation. Whether you've felt distant or simply want to go deeper, this message gives you a clear path to a closer connection with Jesus.Sunday | August 3, 2025 | 10:30 AMNEXT STEPSHave you made a decision to follow Jesus? What are you most passionate about? Most Christians would respond by saying something like "loving Jesus" or "doing God's work." These are genuine expressions of devotion and warm Abba's heart. Yet it's true that all of us have hidden ruling passions (like loneliness, control, etc.) that can become the primary drivers of our motivation. Join us for this episode of Soul Talks as Bill talks with Dave Wiedis — founder of Serving Leaders Ministries and author of the new book The Spiritually Healthy Leader: Finding Freedom from Self-Sabotage.
