7 DAYS TILL THE GATES OPEN AND THE FIRST BAND PLAYS THAT FIRST CHORD! I can't believe we are that close! The excitement is overwhelming to say the least. So now is the time to get your last minute plans in place, especially what bands to see. And that plan should definitely include todays band. Out of Florida, playing Day 4 of Blue Ridge Rock Fest on the HeartSupport Stage, F.I.L.T.H! The band's origins can be dated as far back as 2009 when Bassist Mike Vettel and Guitarist Mike Andes had already begun writing what would be the foundation of F.I.L.T.H. The pair enlisted new members for the project only to realize later the lineup would ultimately have to change. “There was a lot going on at the time…” recalls Mike Andes, “…the timing just wasn't right for the direction we wanted to go…” The two then decided to put the project on hold. Almost a year later, they were introduced to drummer Freddie Hull. “I was playing with Kevin Palmer (Trust Company) before I stepped away from playing….I hadn't played in almost 12 years. By the time I was introduced to Mike and Mikey, I was playing in a local cover band…” recalls Freddie. For the next several months, the trio talked about putting it all together and in early 2011, headed into the studio and started to go to work. “Freddie came in and branded his own style to the chemistry that Mikey V and I already had….he just fit…” exclaims Mike Andes. Soon after, the three began the search for what would ultimately be the next piece to the lineup. And it didn't take them long before front man Eric Mann filled in the position they were searching for. F.I.L.T.H. was born. In late 2014, guitarist Josh Lyons stepped in to fill the final piece. “We wanted a fuller sound…” says Freddie Hull. Josh proceeded to add his own flare to the songs, adding a new dimension to the guitar work of F.I.L.T.H. From this point, F.I.L.T.H. was evolving as a band. Fast forward, after almost 10 years with the band, front man Eric Mann left the band. “It was a shock to say the least.” says guitarist Mike Andes. The search was on. It was a long and grueling process for the band and on May 1, 2021 Jason “Jay” Gutsch brutally filled the void the band was looking for. “I can't say I knew a lot about F.I.L.T.H., but after 10 years of not being a front man, I decided to give it a shot…” says frontman Jay. “It's been an extremely easy transition.” he adds. F.I.L.T.H. has supported national acts such as Fear Factory, Saliva, Green Jelly, Straight Line Stitch, 10 Years and Nonpoint and has played festivals such as WJRR's Kink Fest, Central Florida Metal Fest and Blue Ridge Rock Fest. “Our goal is to grow as a band while staying true to the band's roots and bring the energy that only F.I.L.T.H. can bring!” exclaims Jay. F.I.L.T.H continues to evolve its sound, adding new elements as each member evolves and grows in their respective abilities. You can catch F.I.L.T.H. on all music platforms and social media outlets such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. In this episode of The Tour Bus Music Show we sit down with Ekotren Guitarist Keith Finnell. Along with featuring four rocking songs from Ekotren, Keith takes us on a journey from the beginnings of the band to present and talks with us about their growing pains touring, recording experiences, and how the band keeps churning out great music despite that challenges of the modern recording industry and the lackluster economy that all bands are dealing with these days. Listening to the band's music on ReverbNation is what first called our attention to them. Their playing style along with the voracity of their music grabs you by the bawls and starts slamming your head against the stage. That being said there is also quite a bit of diversity within the songs themselves. One minute you are listening to pounding hurricane of hard rock and the next you are in the eye of the storm with acoustic guitars and pristine harmony vocals and then it takes off into a grandiose mix of powerful chords and melodies and then before you get your bearings it's back to ripping you head off with the pounding drum and guitar assault. The band has been touring in recent times with groups such as Staind, Chevelle, ill nino, (hed) pe, Powerman 5000, Straight Line Stitch, and Diecast. Their most recent release, The Dead Of Night was produced by Paul Trust and achieved an overall tighter, aggressive, and professionally produced album than it's predecessor. That being said, 2008's Light the Fire was and remains a very good album in it's own right. We hope you enjoy the interview.
