Crocodiles are often more feared than understood. Reptile expert Heino Nölke and his wife run the company Reptile Awareness Displays of Australia. In conversation, Heino, who is originally from Hamburg, shares his fascination with crocodiles and dispels prejudices.
Nevena, Macca and Paul are joined live on air by Josh Cox, an Olive Albino Python and a Barking Owl. Josh's philosophy is simple. ‘As a a society we are disconnected from nature. The advent of technology has changed the way we live, it has changed the way we interact, and it has jammed a wedge between us and nature'. ‘Children, from the time they are born, are now inundated with technology. It has gone well beyond the 30 minutes of watching Playschool that was the norm a generation ago. As we've become increasingly disconnected from our world and nature, the state of the planet has declined at quite a rapid rate. The threat of climate change is at our door. We are on the precipice of a mass extinction. If as a society we are disconnected from nature, we are not going to have the impetus to want to protect the planet'. Josh goes on to say, ‘I started Reptile Encounters because I want to give students the chance to connect with nature. I believe that people need to have that ‘inspire' moment to be able to make the connection for themselves. By meeting animals in the flesh we engender a respect for our environment and equip students to make a difference!' Open to the public by appointment ONLY! Reptile Encounters was founded in 2007 and is now in its 17th year of operation. Founder Josh Cox has had a lifelong love of Australian wildlife and was keen to have his own business and share his passion with the public. Initially, Reptile Encounters began with Josh as the sole presenter of reptile shows and a small collection of animals. He operated from home, and the majority of his business was weekend birthday parties. However it wasn't long before schools began enquiring and the focus of the business has gradually shifted. Josh quit his pharmaceutical sales job in 2009 to run Reptile Encounters full time and is now offering reptile parties for kids, corporate events & team building activities. In this episode, Daniel Yates presented his research on the neuroscience of reptiles. Daniel shared his PowerPoint presentation titled "Learning Science and How to Deal with People for My Reptiles," focusing on the brain anatomy of reptiles and how it compares to human brain structure. He explained key concepts, including the three "humps" of the reptile brain (forebrain, mid brain, and cerebellum), the optic tectum's role in processing visual information, and how different reptile species have adapted their brain structures based on their environments and behaviors. Daniel discussed various studies, including a 40-species analysis and shared his hypothesis about how reptiles perceive and interact with their environments. The conversation also touched on his personal background in science and his approach to studying reptile neuroscience, emphasizing the need for more research in this area.SHOW NOTES: https://www.animalsathomenetwork.com/252-daniel-yates/SPONSORS: Visit The BioDude: https://www.thebiodude.com/ Visit Zoo Med Labs here: https://zoomed.com/JOIN US ON PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/animalsathomeLINKS FROM THE EPISODE:https://www.youtube.com/@UCETeOch6OVLTC9GQPR3_QhQ PDF DOWNLOAD: https://www.animalsathomenetwork.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Neuroscience-of-Reptiles.pdf

A recent study simulated the extreme temperatures and pressure of the Earth's interior by squeezing a sample between diamonds and heating it with a laser. In those simulations, researchers found that the Earth's core may contain vast amounts of hydrogen, locked away in alloys with iron and silicon. Planetary scientist Anat Shahar joins Host Ira Flatow to discuss what this tells us about how the planet formed, and where water on Earth may have come from. Then, another kind of deep history: Paleontologist Arnaud Rebillard introduces Host Flora Lichtman to “regurgitalite”—fossilized vomit. Rebillard studied a sample of regurgitalite some 50 million years older than the dinosaurs. Guests: Dr. Anat Shahar is a planetary scientist, and vice president for research at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, D.C. Arnaud Rebillard is a PhD candidate in paleontology at the Natural History Museum of Berlin. Other episodes you may enjoy: Could Underground Hydrogen Reserves Put Clean Energy Within Reach? This week we are attending a frat party while we discuss “Reptile Boy”! We're talking whether sad club music is a thing, Buffy and Xander braiding Willow's hair, Cordelia's terrifying man-catching laugh, how great Buffy is at pouting, and whether or not Angel knows how to read. At this point, evidence is inconclusive. We continue the saga of Cordelia somehow having a driver's license, that the cold open girl simply has bad vibes, how vampire-friendly coffee could be made, and how important brewski time is after your cult rituals are done. We don't appreciate Bookoo Babes guy's attitude, but we do appreciate the phrase.Send us an email at sunnydalenationpod@gmail.com or follow us on Instagram!
Episode #144 of Daffy's Round Tables! On this episode I'm joined by Rae from Rae's Reptiles, and in this episode we talk all about doing reptile education shows. We get into what it's like bringing reptiles into schools, birthday parties, and live events, what makes a good education animal, and how to create a show that's fun, memorable, and actually teaches people something. We also talk about how to present reptiles in a way that helps people connect with them instead of being afraid of them, and of course we talk about what goes into building a business around reptile education, and the importance of doing outreach and social media. Rae gives us some good social media strategies too. We also talk about Rae's experiences in zoos. She has worked in several zoos here in Canada and has a lot of awesome stories to share. One of those zoos is Little Ray's Nature Centre that was in Hamilton btw. Shout out Little Ray's!!! If you've ever thought about doing educational shows yourself, or you just want to hear what it's like behind the scenes, there's a lot of great stuff in this episode. Dragon Quest has had 11 mainline games, tons of spinoffs and ports galore. It's a franchise known for ushering in the foundation of the Japanese Role Playing Game, or the JRPG. Originating on the Famicom in the mid 1980s, the game saw not one but FOUR games release on Nintendo's first console. In this episode, we've decided to focus on the first three, known as the Erdrick Trilogy. With good friends and patrons of the show on board, Ryan and Cam, we were in good hands as Mike and Justin know very little. Now we're blessed by two pros joining us to share their knowledge and music choices in this classic trilogy of games. Covering not just the NES originals but other ports as well, the XVGM Radio guys get down with the charming classical wonder of Koichi Sugiyama's Dragon Quest (or Warrior if your nasty!) soundtracks. In this third installment of our series on examination techniques, Jim Garrity dives into the so-called Reptile Method, developed by jury consultant David Ball and plaintiff's attorney Don Keenan, and explained in their 2009 book Reptile: The 2009 Manual of the Plaintiff's Revolution. It's long been a controversial approach because, some say, it's a disguised version of Golden Rule arguments that are generally forbidden in most jurisdictions. But whether you're on the plaintiff side looking to deploy it or the defense side looking to neutralize it, you need to understand how the three-stage sequence works, and where it's vulnerable.SHOW NOTEShttps://columbialawreview.org/content/shadow-tort-law-lessons-from-the-reptile/ (Columbia University law review article on "The Reptile" method)https://lewisbrisbois.com/insights/clientalerts/the-reptile-theory-in-practice (defense firm blog on the Reptile Theory)https://imslegal.com/articles/reptile-brain-strategy-why-use-it-how-counter-it (jury consulting firm article on the Reptile Method)

Imagine a sea creature so massive it makes a whale look small—that's the giant ichthyosaur! This prehistoric marine reptile, nicknamed "the dino of the deep," lived over 200 million years ago and could grow up to 85 feet long. Scientists discovered its fossilized remains high up in the Alps, proving just how much our planet has changed. It looked like a mix between a dolphin and a lizard, but on a supersized scale. With its long snout and powerful body, it ruled the ancient oceans like an unstoppable predator. This giant proves that nature's imagination has no limits, especially when it comes to creatures of the past! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

This week we're spilling some Reptile Keeper Confessions — and trust us, some of them are very relatable. From our own reptile keeping slip-ups to anonymous listener submissions, we're sharing the funny, chaotic, and slightly questionable moments that happen behind the scenes of the hobby. We also chat about tips for keeping reptiles as the weather warms up, including small husbandry adjustments that can make a big difference during the seasonal shift. Plus, Neptune gives an update on Triton the chameleon and how things have been going lately. To wrap things up, we taste test a variety of Easter candy — including some very questionable jellybean flavors — and give our honest reactions. Expect some laughs, a little chaos, and maybe a few confessions that make you feel better about your own reptile keeping moments.Get early access to episodes: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-wild-type-podcast/subscribeFollow the podcast: - https://www.instagram.com/thewildtypepodcast/- https://www.tiktok.com/@thewildtypepodcast- Merch: https://the-wild-type-podcast-llc-shop.fourthwall.com/Follow Neptune the Chameleon:- https://www.youtube.com/c/NeptunetheChameleon/- http://instagram.com/neptunethechameleon- https://tiktok.com/@neptunethechameleon- http://facebook.com/neptunethechameleon- https://www.neptunethechameleon.comFollow Lyssa's Lizards:- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmZaN6Q4yOt1j36J0-Ml6LQ- https://www.instagram.com/lyssaslizards- https://www.tiktok.com/@lyssaslizards- https://m.facebook.com/p/Lyssas-Lizards-100064470381677/- https://www.lyssaslizards.comSponsors:- https://www.pangeareptile.com/wildtype- https://coldbloodedcaffeine.com/- https://symtonbsf.com/- https://reptilekages.com/

This episode has a little bit of everything. We start by figuring out which Hogwarts houses we belong in, plus a very important life update: befriending the neighborhood crows. For the main topic, we talk about something that doesn't get discussed enough in the reptile hobby — what happens after the beginner phase. The excitement of getting your first reptiles eventually settles into long-term routines, and we dive into things no one really prepares you for: when care starts to feel repetitive, staying engaged in the hobby without impulse buying new animals, mentally outgrowing beginner setups, and the temptation to chase more “advanced” or flashier species. Then we do a taste test of new Peeps flavors and give our very serious and professional rankings.Get early access to episodes: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-wild-type-podcast/subscribeFollow the podcast: - https://www.instagram.com/thewildtypepodcast/- https://www.tiktok.com/@thewildtypepodcast- Merch: https://the-wild-type-podcast-llc-shop.fourthwall.com/Follow Neptune the Chameleon:- https://www.youtube.com/c/NeptunetheChameleon/- http://instagram.com/neptunethechameleon- https://tiktok.com/@neptunethechameleon- http://facebook.com/neptunethechameleon- https://www.neptunethechameleon.comFollow Lyssa's Lizards:- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmZaN6Q4yOt1j36J0-Ml6LQ- https://www.instagram.com/lyssaslizards- https://www.tiktok.com/@lyssaslizards- https://m.facebook.com/p/Lyssas-Lizards-100064470381677/- https://www.lyssaslizards.comSponsors:- https://www.pangeareptile.com/wildtype- https://coldbloodedcaffeine.com/- https://symtonbsf.com/- https://reptilekages.com/

Lern just got back from seeing Nine Inch Nails and apparently the lighting design deserves its own Grammy. We're talking gauze curtains, delayed shadows, industrial rave vibes, and Trent Reznor absolutely refusing to high-five Tim like a majestic goth gazelle sprinting through the crowd. It's concert chaos in the best possible way — from the DJ opener bleeding seamlessly into the show, to the setlist swaps that made the St. Louis crowd feel personally chosen. We break down the Peel It Back tour experience, including the “Frail into Reptile” moment that sent fans spiraling (in a good way), the zippers-per-capita record inside Enterprise Center, and the emotional high of being in the same airspace as your music heroes. Remember when just being in the same room as your favorite artist felt life-changing? Yeah, we went there. Hard. But because this is a comedy podcast and we cannot stay focused for more than 12 consecutive minutes, the conversation pivots into something much more responsible: inflation rage. Concert tickets, movie theaters, $15 waters, delivery apps, streaming services we barely use but refuse to cancel, and the emotional damage of a $12 Lion's Choice meal. Are we becoming our parents? Possibly. Are we mad about it? Absolutely. Then we spiral (again) into hypothetical chaos:$10 million but you lose 10 years of life?$50 million but you lose all your friends?$1 million but you're stuck in St. Louis forever?$500,000 but you can't complain for five years (so… impossible)? The answers are revealing. And slightly concerning. We also dive into the so-called “singles tax,” the surprising numbers behind OnlyFans income (sorry Scott), and the underdog effect — why being told you'll fail might actually be rocket fuel. It's part concert recap, part financial therapy session, part existential crisis — aka your favorite comedy podcast doing what it does best.Industrial rock. Inflation anger.
