The Sklar Brothers started doing stand-up together as adolescent twins in St. Louis. A fortuitous encounter with Andy Kindler during college encouraged them they were on the right track. They came up in New York during the rise of the alt comedy scene, and performed at Eating It at Luna Lounge, and other venues like Surf Reality and Collective Unconscious on the Lower East Side. They have been stalwarts of the standup world ever since.Jason and Randy talk to Will about the differences between standup and improv, their experience making Held Up together (Crackle), and TAG IT!, the show they currently host at Largo and the Comedy Store.Recorded at Jett Road Studios------------------LIFE IN COMEDYInstagramJETT ROAD STUDIOSWebsiteInstagramYouTube

Tom is the architect and main man behind Radio Free Brooklyn-he pretty much knows all 100+ of us. He is loved, respected and occasionally feared. This session was a great opportunity to look back on the past 5 years to dig into how Radio Free Brooklyn has changed his life (and many people's lives, including his co-director and RFB Board President, Rob Pritchard). I know Tom pretty well, but there was a lot of learning here. We talked about his way of relating with us has changed and why. And I really enjoyed what he said about how being of service is a fundamental value/talent that runs in his family which include nurses and teachers. If you really want a deep dive into the head of Tom Tenney and what kind of person starts a non-profit radio station, listen to Episode #001 of Dr. Lisa Gives A Shit from May 13 2015. It was also the first Dr. Lisa Gives A Shit show ever! Tom hosts Frequency Theory on RFB every Thursday, 8-10pm. If you want to give Tom a birthday gift, you can do so HERE. BIO: Tom Tenney (Executive Director) was the founder and Director of the annual RE/Mixed Media Festival in NYC. He has been producing theatrical events since the 1980's, working with a diverse group of artists – from Robert Wilson to DJ Spooky – and his long-running late-night series Grindhouse-A-Go-Go! was the flagship show at Surf Reality's House of Urban Savages on the Lower East Side from 1998-2002. His sound pieces have been heard on PRX Remix Radio, GMFE Sound Experience, Deep Wireless Festival and Streaming Festival 6. Tom got his M.A. in Media Studies from the New School and his B.F.A. (Bachelor of Fun Arts) from Ringling Brothers & Barnum & Bailey Clown College. He has been a guest lecturer at the School of Visual Arts and an adjunct Media Studies professor at Hofstra University and New Jersey City University. Tom is the host of Frequency Theory on RFB, and recently published a DIY guide to starting an Internet radio station.
