All the theatrical good vibes

New Hampshire Unscripted talks with the performance arts movers and shakers

Franklin Footlight Theatre showed up to chat about their upcoming production of SPAMALOT. We had actors, an assistant director, a choreographer, one person just hanging out and taking pictures (I'm looking at you Olivia Martenson!). And talked about classic Monty Python gags, laughs, audience expectations, crappy accents (except my Inspector Clouseau French one was spot on), and thanks to Hayley de Sousa we even (gingerly) threw in some info on their NEXT show TWISTED. SPAMALOT has all of the characters that you would expect including King Arthur, Lancelot (the homicidally brave), Lady of the Lake (complete with Laker Girls), Sir Robin (the Not-Quite-So-Brave-as-Sir-Lancelot), Sir Galahad, Sir Bedevere, Patsy, Prince Herbert, Concorde and many more. I'm breakin' a sweat just typing it all!! Show dates and tickets: Aug 1-4 at the Hamilton Hall, Tilton School.

The WKXL NH Unscripted studio was packed today with cast and crew from the Franklin Footlight production of Monty Python's SPAMALOT going up Aug 1-4 at the Tilton School's Hamilton Hall. SPAMALOT is a Camelot spoof and is absolutely hilarious for those that don't know and we talked about it all. The show is filled with classic MP gags and routines and we discussed as much of them as we could. There was even an accent challenge at one point with yours truly failing miserably! The show has all of the characters that you would expect including King Arthur, Lancelot (the homicidally brave), Lady of the Lake (complete with Laker Girls), Sir Robin (the Not-Quite-So-Brave-as-Sir-Lancelot), Sir Galahad, Sir Bedevere, Patsy, Prince Herbert, Concorde and many more. Choreography? Oh yeah, in spades! My friends, go out to dinner and then go see this show. You will not be disappointed!

Our Fox 1942 episode explores two different modes of Betty Grable Fox musical (both choreographed by Astaire collaborator Hermes Pan) that draw on the Hollywood musical modes established in the 1930s:in black and white, the Warneresque backstager Footlight Serenade, shot by Lee Garmes; and the Technicolor farce Springtime in the Rockies, with comic support by Edward Everett Horton and Carmen Miranda, whose eccentric comedic styles confront one another and produce what might be chemistry. Elise comes around a little on Betty Grable, whose persona we discuss, along with the covert feminism of Footlight Serenade's plot. And in Fear and Moviegoing in Toronto, we Siskel and Ebert Claudia von Alemann's feminist filmic essay Blind Spot (1981), but agree that the sandwich-eating and pickle-refusing scenes are great.    Time Codes: 0h 00m 45s:      FOOTLIGHT SERENADE [dir. They're getting married soon-in 2 months-September 10! The trajectory of how Laura and Tim met and developed their relationship is unusually healthy, but still offbeat. I'm hoping to get them back on the show together! Time to unleash the legs of Jimmy Cagney! Pod Hard-cicerons Jonas Högberg & Anders Hultqvist watch their first musical in their ongoing quest through action film history and are utterly mesmerized by the insanity that is Footlight Parade. Cagney plays a theater director who start making prologues, small live musical numbers set before movies in cinemas. Everybody involved in the productions are fast-talking on a Groucho Marx- or Katharine Hepburn-level and zingers, comebacks and sexual innuendos flood the screen in a matter of seconds! The musical numbers, directed by theatre legend Busby Berkeley, is the epitome of old Hollywood with beautiful women swimming in elaborate patterns (like the mobile game Snake), suave guys and gals tap-dancing on bardisks and cute cats inspiring crazy ass ideas. One thing's for sure: this is one pervy movie! "Outside, countess. As long as they've got sidewalks YOU'VE got a job."

Szteppcipőket, felhúzni, hangszálakat beénekelni, kezdődik a musical-évad! Elhelyezzük a történetben Busby Berkeley-t, illetve a filmet gyártó Warner Bros. stúdió szerepét. Zenés filmről lévén szó, utánanézünk a zeneszerzőknek is, akiknek a fülbemászó dalokat köszönhetjük. The Footlight opened just as I was departing New York for Cleveland, but I got to produce the very first show that graced its stage, the finale of my variety show, The BZ Douglas Carnivale. On today’s episode, Laura and I discuss the genesis of the Footlight, how it has become an artistic incubator and a space that fosters community, and finally the financial troubles she is facing due to a landlord that is not honoring his obligations, and the systemic problems that the city has with regulating building owners. This bi-monthly LIVE radio show on Radio Free Brooklyn hosted by NYC's Killy "Mock$tar" Dwyer is a tasty comedy music treat for your ear holes. Mock-U-Mental is served up with a healthy dose of live jams and interviews with your favorite comedic musicians, topped with listener questions, comments, requests and prank calls, paired with a feel good, mock bottom drinking game. Come play along with Killy, her enigmatic husband Craig Schober, her dog and featuring Jim Melloan Listen LIVE every other Friday 8-10pm on http://radiofreebrooklyn.com/ About Jim: Jim grew up mostly in New Jersey, with a four-year stint in London, England as an adolescent. He graduated from Wesleyan University with a degree in Theater. He's a founding member of ImprovBoston, and this year attended and performed in the 35th anniversary celebration for that now-august institution. He's been writing songs and music since high school. In the mid-'90s he hit upon the idea of writing funnier songs after discovering the downtown alt-performance mecca Surf Reality. Since then he's performed his music at the usual suspect venues: Surf, Collective Unconscious, Bowery Poetry Club, Sidewalk Cafe, and The Footlight. He also still does some acting, having performed in plays at HERE and a few other venues.
