What does it actually take to build a lasting cross-sector community arts partnership? In this episode, I return to a lesson I learned more than forty years ago in one of the most unlikely classrooms imaginable: the California prison system during one of the most violent periods in its history. At the center of the story is Verne McKee, an incarcerated artist and leader whose practical wisdom about trust, power, responsibility, and human relationships became a blueprint for understanding how successful community arts partnerships are built—and why so many fail.Drawing on Verne's ten rules for survival and collaboration, I explore the hidden dynamics that determine whether partnerships become transformative long-term alliances or short-lived projects that leave communities worse off than before. Along the way, I unpack the difference between outreach and partnership, why artistic excellence remains essential to social change work, and what shared power actually looks like when artists, institutions, and communities work together. You'll discover:• Why trust—not funding, programming, or good intentions—is the real currency of sustainable partnership.• How Verne McKee's ten rules reveal the conditions that help cross-sector collaborations thrive and the warning signs that often predict failure.• Why communities deserve more than one-time projects, and what artists and institutions owe the people they invite into a creative process. If you've ever wondered why some community partnerships flourish for decades while others collapse despite talent, resources, and enthusiasm, this episode offers hard-earned lessons from the front lines of creative community change.NOTABLE MENTIONSKey FigureVerne McKee — Former president of the Art and Musicians Guilds at California Medical Facility and a respected leader within California's prison arts community. Over many years of conversations about how teaching artists could work effectively and responsibly inside correctional institutions, McKee shared insights drawn from lived experience that became the foundation for the “Verne's Rules” framework discussed in this episode. His observations about respect, artistic excellence, humility, responsibility, self-care, and the central importance of relationships continue to inform approaches to community-based arts partnerships far beyond prison walls. Dino is an talented voice actor and great guy I've known and worked with for many years. How he got into the voice-over world was a bold move, calling to look for work as a writer but would end up being one of the main characters of an anime show. He's also well know as the voice of Speedy Gonzales, Scarecrow in the video game, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and Pop of the rice crispy trio, Snap, Crackle and Pop. We also talk about 'Soul Geeks,' his foundation that turned the loss of his wife, a fellow voice-over artist Mary Kay Bergman into a wonderful memorial. And, stay tuned until the end when we break down a an animation script and play with character choices to develop our rolls. We really had fun with this one!!
What happens when Artists are embedded inside the systems that run the world? --- hospitals, railroads, steel mills, shipping companies, government ministries... In this episode, we explore the the strange, funny, visionary, and unexpectedly influential story of Barbara Steveni and the Artist Placement Group — a loose coalition of British artists who, beginning in the late 1960s, attempted something radical: placing artists inside the machinery of everyday institutional life not to decorate systems… but to complicate them. This show explores how artists embedded themselves inside mega-corporations and government agencies — often producing confusion, resistance, revelation, and occasionally profound organizational insight. And:* Why artists may function best not at the edges of society, but deep inside the systems shaping public life. How attention, metaphor, and observation can help institutions become more self aware and better run. * Why imagination inside organizations is often disruptive, inconvenient, and deeply necessary.Notable MentionsPeopleBarbara Steveni — British artist, organizer, and co-founder of the Artist Placement Group whose pioneering work embedded artists inside industrial, governmental, and civic systems as catalysts for institutional reflection and imagination.John Latham — Influential conceptual artist and APG collaborator whose work challenged conventional ideas about institutions, perception, time, and social systems.Ian Breakwell — British artist, filmmaker, and diarist associated with APG whose observational work explored institutional life, mental health systems, and everyday social rituals.Mierle Laderman Ukeles — Maintenance artist whose long collaboration with the New York City Department of Sanitation transformed public understanding of labor, infrastructure, and civic care.David Whyte — Poet and organizational thinker known for bringing metaphor, reflection, and human inquiry into corporate and institutional environments.Organizations & InitiativesArtist Placement Group (APG) — Radical British initiative founded in the late 1960s to place artists inside corporations, industries, and government agencies not to decorate systems, but to deepen and complicate them.Organisation and Imagination (O+I) — The later evolution of APG, continuing its investigation into the relationship between imagination, institutions, governance, and organizational culture.Intermedia Arts — Influential Minneapolis arts organization that helped pioneer artist/community development collaborations and embedded civic arts practice in the United States. The Hayward Gallery — London arts venue that hosted APG's influential 1971 exhibition Art & Economics, bringing artists, industrialists, and public officials into direct dialogue.Projects, Concepts & EventsArt & Economics / INN70 — Landmark APG exhibition and public experiment exploring relationships between artists, economics, bureaucracy, and institutional life.Incidental Person — John Latham's concept describing artists embedded within institutions as independent observers capable of perceiving what bureaucratic systems themselves no longer notice.John Latham and the Scottish Bing Projects — Exploration of Latham's visionary proposal to reconceive Scottish industrial spoil heaps as cultural memory and environmental sculpture. The Institution — Ian Breakwell's work emerging from placements inside psychiatric hospitals, examining institutional systems, observation, and human vulnerability.Publications & ResearchThe Artist Placement Group and the Industry of Art — Major essay tracing APG's philosophy, institutional placements, and long-term influence on socially engaged and cross-sector artistic practice.Barbara Steveni: I Find Myself — Steveni's memoir and archival reflection on APG, institutional imagination, and artist-led systems intervention.Artist Placement Group Chronology — Historical timeline documenting APG placements, exhibitions, collaborations, and policy interventions.Artforum — “Rate of Return: The Artist Placement Group” — Contemporary reassessment of APG's influence on institutional critique, social practice, and embedded artistic work.Acknowledgements (FreeSound.org)Dream-Drifting by audiomirage -- https://freesound.org/s/665193/ -- License: Attribution 4.0NixenoFX - short music jingle and start and end music.mp3 by nixeno -- https://freesound.org/s/427552/ -- License: Attribution 4.0Marlow and the DownUnder by audiomirage -- https://freesound.org/s/719007/ -- License: Attribution NonCommercial 4.0September 21 Equinox by audiomirage -- https://freesound.org/s/827532/ -- License: Attribution 4.0AMB_pub_small_busy.wav by matucha -- https://freesound.org/s/189876/ -- License: Attribution 4.0Hello User: Bright Cheery Intro Music by jjmarsan -- https://freesound.org/s/476070/ -- License: Attribution 4.0Podcast 27_Crackle by PodcastAC -- https://freesound.org/s/720338/ -- License: Attribution 4.0*******Art Is CHANGE is a podcast that chronicles the power of art and community transformation, providing a platform for activist artists to share their experiences and gain the skills and strategies they need to thrive as agents of social change.Through compelling conversations with artist activists, artivists, and cultural organizers, the podcast explores how art and activism intersect to fuel cultural transformation and drive meaningful change. The Metaphysical Hour with Julia Cannon and Tracie Mahan and Question Master Tiffanny Remembering Your True Being and The Metaphysics of Joy In this episode of The Metaphysical Hour, hosts Julia Cannon and Tracey Mahan explore the natural evolution of the Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique (QHHT), interpret classic commercial jingles through a metaphysical lens, and provide deep insights into energy protection and the sensory process of manifestation. The discussion emphasizes moving beyond ego to embrace a state of joy, play, and co-creation with the universal simulation. Detailed Summary The Evolution and Integrity of QHHT Tracey Mahan, currently teaching a Level 3 QHHT class, shares insights into the profound evolution experienced by both students and practitioners. A central theme of the discussion is the necessity of following the established QHHT script without modification. The hosts argue that the modality is designed to evolve naturally through the client's experience; attempting to "add" to it from a 3D perspective is often an act of ego that can interfere with the higher-dimensional process. They emphasize that the foundation is complete and perfect as it is, allowing for a 5D evolution that transcends physical consciousness. Metaphysical Interpretations of Nostalgic Jingles In a creative segment, the hosts interpret classic advertising jingles as spiritual metaphors. "Snap, Crackle, Pop" is viewed as a series of awakenings and the clearing of energetic blockages, while the Toys "R" Us theme serves as a reminder to embrace the inner child and the importance of play. Other interpretations include "Where's the Beef?" as a call for authenticity and "You Deserve a Break Today" as a literal message for self-care and rest. These interpretations suggest that the "simulation" we live in is constantly communicating through familiar symbols to trigger memory and joy. Energy Protection and Spiritual Tools Addressing listener questions, the hosts provide practical advice for those using dowsing rods or pendulums. If a practitioner feels drained, it often indicates "giving energy away" or having "leaks" in the auric field. To prevent this, they recommend calling in a "gatekeeper"—such as a dragon, angel, or star being—to maintain a high-frequency environment (5D and above). Furthermore, Julia discusses her mother Dolores Cannon's Convoluted Universe series, explaining that each book represents an evolution of understanding and should be read to see how one's own beliefs can expand when exposed to "mind-bending" information. The Mechanics of Manifestation The episode concludes with a deep dive into the art of "utilizing" or "molding" energy for manifestation. The hosts clarify that this is not about control or force, but about "remembering" how to create. Effective manifestation requires engaging all senses—imagining the smell, the physical touch (like a doorknob), and the specific emotions of a completed goal. They suggest using the phrase "this or something better" to avoid the vibration of "wanting" or "needing," which only attracts more of the same lack. By embodying the version of oneself that already possesses the desired outcome, the physical reality is forced to comply with that vibrational match. This session serves as a powerful reminder that spiritual growth is not a process of "adding" complex layers, but of stripping away ego to remember our innate power as creators. By maintaining the integrity of foundational tools like QHHT and approaching life with the curiosity of a child, we can effectively mold our reality and "shine" as beacons in our respective corners of the world. Search for a QHHT practitioner by visiting qhhtofficial.com. Apply the discount code "themagicisreal" (all one word) when registering for the QHHT Level 1 course. Explore the "SoulSpeak" book and online course to better understand the metaphorical language of the body. Practice sensory manifestation by visualizing a goal and focusing on the physical sensations and emotions of its completion.

In today's episode, on a still winter morning, a tiny frozen puddle becomes the beginning of a quiet moment of awareness I reflect on the beauty of our senses, how easily we overlook small everyday moments, and why career prestige doesn't always bring true fulfillment. Later, inspired by a powerful message from journalist Sami Hamdi, I muse about his idea of intention, sincerity, and the role each of us can play in addressing both local and global inequities. In a world connected through social media, our individual choices matter more than ever. This episode is a gentle reminder for me and you to slow down, notice what's around us, and consider how small actions and mindful awareness can contribute to a more compassionate, responsible way of living, choosing intention over indifference. Once aware of noise’s ability to dull, disrupt, distract, and debilitate, we become more intentional about our environment. Like active noise reduction, this intentionality may require us to introduce other sound sources to counteract the noise. Kent L. Gee, recipient of BYU’s most prestigious faculty honor—the Karl G. Maeser Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Award—delivered this forum on June 3, 2025, in recognition of this outstanding achievement. He is chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Climactic is an early-stage venture fund investing in the energy, AI, automation, and robotics sectors to address climate change and its effects. It is backed by folks like Chris Sacca, Reid Hoffman, Mio Partners, and StepStone.Prior to Climactic, Josh co-founded Freestyle Capital, where he sourced or invested in the unicorns: Airtable, Patreon, Betterup, and Intercom. He was a pioneer in the early days of the Internet where he co-founded Spinner, the first Internet music startup, acquired by AOL for $320M, and Crackle, a viral video startup, acquired by Sony for $65M. Josh's commitment to the environment is long-standing; he started a nonprofit app in 2014 to connect influencers (NBA, Guns N Roses, Mark Ruffalo, Al Gore, Evan Williams) to the most important climate actions from the leading nonprofits. --Here are six topics we covered in the podcast:Origins with Rock Stars and PresidentsJosh Felser co-founded ClimateX, connecting users to 100+ environmental nonprofits with partners like Al Gore, Guns N' Roses, and the NBA.Why He Left Traditional VCAfter success at Freestyle Capital, COVID and a five-month role in California's government led Josh to shift from consumer tech to climate venture, realizing business's role in systemic change.Climactic's EvolutionJosh and Raj Kapoor launched Climactic as a B2B climate tech fund, later narrowing their focus to AI and automation for enterprise sustainability and profitability. Two Portfolio BetsClimactic invested in Grit (robotics for faster, cheaper solar installs) and Copper (battery-integrated induction stoves for apartment electrification).Climate Messaging in the MAGA EraJosh advocates re-framing climate language—e.g., using “conservation” over “environmentalism”—to resonate with conservative audiences without losing authenticity.Personal WellnessJosh finds balance through humor, avoiding the 5 AM club, emotional resilience, and grounding reminders like a Buddha statue at his Stinson Beach home.--

The arrest of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada has led to significant tensions within the Sinaloa Cartel, one of Mexico's most powerful criminal organizations. As a long-standing leader, El Mayo's arrest has created a power vacuum, resulting in internal struggles for dominance.Several factions within the cartel are vying for control, most notably the "Los Chapitos" faction, led by the sons of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, and loyalists to El Mayo. The Los Chapitos faction has been increasingly assertive, seeking to consolidate power in the absence of El Mayo. This has led to conflicts between different groups within the cartel, as each tries to assert its influence over key territories and operations, such as drug trafficking routes and money laundering networks. The tension has manifested in increased violence, with reports of clashes between the rival factions. The Mexican government, meanwhile, is on high alert, anticipating potential escalations in violence as the cartel's internal power struggle continues. The future of the Sinaloa Cartel remains uncertain, as it is unclear whether a new leader will emerge to unify the factions or if the cartel will splinter. One thing is certain: The amount of product flowing across the border has not slowed in the wake of the El Mayo arrest.(commercial at 11:14)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:The Cold War Inside the Sinaloa Cartel Following El Mayo's Arrest (insightcrime.org)
