It's always a great episode when we get to review one of our favorite weird, beer styles. We to review another Lichtenhainer beer. To refresh your memory, image a lightly smoked gose or berliner wiesse. It's a bit of an aquired taste but once you try it, it's one you want try every time you find a brewery brave enough to create one. Belgium brewery Alvinne has Fumo Van Chile, an imperial Lichtenheiner with smoked pepper, salt and coriander seeds. It's a colaboration with Chilean brewers Granizo. After that we get to try a sparkling ale from The Bruery. Spritz This!: Terroir Project is a barrel-aged sparkling ale with Syrah grapes. It's kind of like a sparkling wine. It's an unusual beer as well and makes a great pairing with the Alvinne beer. #beer #drinks #craftbeer #alvinne #thebruery #lichtenheiner #sparklingale #syrahgrapes

The Bruery had a threesome with Moksa and Mikerphone. The results is a coconut, vanilla bean, milk sugar and oat milk imperial stout called Three's Cocompany. Kinky. New to the EU market is a brewery out of Minneapolis, MN called Fair State Brewing Cooperative. They have released a bourbon barrel-aged pastry stout with vanilla called Heckin' Chonkers. It's a sweet boozy pastry stout and gives us great hope we'll get more from this brewery.
Advent 2020 Day 14 brings us The Bruery American Anthem. It's an imperial brown ale aged on bourbon barrels with peach, apricot, cinnamon and vanilla beans. It's a boozy peach pie in a glass. Bjorn from Bjornguiden joins us.
Smoke Beer(Description Courtesy of Beer Advocate)When malt is kilned over an open flame, the smoke flavor becomes infused into the beer, leaving a taste that can vary from dense campfire, to slight wisps of smoke. Any style of beer can be smoked; the goal is to reach a balance between the style’s character and the smoky properties. Originating in Germany as Rauchbier (“Rowk-beer”), this style is open to interpretation by U.S. craft brewers. Classic base styles include German-style Marzen/Oktoberfest, German-style Bock, German-style Dunkel, Vienna-style Lager and more. Smoke flavors dissipate over time.Weyermann makes a Smoked Malt (also known as Rauchmalt) a famous beechwood-smoked malt can make up to 100% of the grist for classic Bamberger Rauchbier. Use smaller percentages to add smoke character to bock, helles, hefeweizen, porters, Scottish ales, brown ales, etc.Several Subcategories:1)Subcategory: Bamberg-Style Weiss RauchbierPale to chestnut brown – low IBU2)Subcategory: Bamberg-Style Helles RauchbierLight pale to golden – low IBU3)Subcategory: Bamberg-Style Maerzen RauchbierPale to light brown – low IBU4)Subcategory: Bamberg-Style Bock RauchbierDark brown to very dark – low IBU5)Subcategory: Smoke PorterDark brown to black – low IBU6)Subcategory: Other Smoke BeerVaries-Color - Any beer of any style incorporating smoke, and therefore may range from very light to black-Clarity: Varies with underlying style-Perceived Malt Aroma & Flavor: Varies with underlying style but Smoky malt aroma andflavor, ranging from low to high, should be present.-Hop Aroma and Flavor and Bitterness Varies with underlying style-Body: Varies with underlying style-ABV: Varies with underlying style-Glassware: Pint Glass (or Becker, Nonic, Tumbler) Examples (courtesy of Beer Advocate)(https://www.beeradvocate.com)Smoking Wood - Bourbon Barrel-Aged | The BrueryBrewed by: The Bruery California, United Statesthebruery.com Style: Smoke Beer Alcohol by volume (ABV): 13% Notes / Commercial Description: Brewed with a hefty amount of smoked malt, Smoking Wood is a delicious demonstration of what wood has to offer when it comes to beer, both in the malting process and the aging process.
