How can you get the most out of your supply chain relationships? Communication is key, and not just when the headwinds hit.   Matt Potts, founder of Normal, Illinois-based Destihl, and Ron Schroder, Briess director of marketing, share how they're navigating supply challenges and how craft brewers can mitigate issues by maintaining lines of communication.    Potts also explains why Destihl has supplemented its own growth with partner brands, including the Wrexham Lager, Hanson Brothers' Mmmhops IPA, an Evel Knievel-branded beer and collegiate beers, including with the University of Illinois Fighting Illini.     Plus, U.S. Beverage VP of brand development Kris Sjolander explains the importer and platform's sales and marketing partnership program. He also dives into what opportunities U.S. Beverage's contract brewing process offers to potential partners in the U.S. and beyond. U.S Beverage's partners include Uinta, Woodchuck Cider, Moosehead, Captain Lawerence and several others.    Sjolander shares why he believes U.S. Beverage excels at distributor management, how the company is expanding its national accounts presence to meet its partners' needs and what types of brands benefit the most from partnering with the firm.    Before the conversations, Brewbound editor Justin Kendall and managing editor Jess Infante break down Tilray Brands' latest leadership shuffle and taproom closure, as well as quick thoughts on White Claw's dominance of hard seltzer and cutting its vodka-based canned cocktail line.    Jess and Justin play Another Round or Tabbing Out on the elders' latest Generation Z gripe: forming a single-file line at the bar. They also talk about the Voodoo Ranger-Malört collaboration, Roulette IPA, where consumers risk getting a Malört-inspired IPA in a 6-pack.

Rebel Moon – Part Two Director's Cut: Curse of Forgiveness is the ultimate payoff to our team of rebels coming together. Essentially, it all culminates in one massive battle scene, where each of our heroes gets their due. It is a visual feast of explosions, violence, and destruction. And, quite frankly, it is awesome. In the PG-13 cut, The Scargiver, the majority of the battle scenes were in tact; but what makes the Director's Cut so superior is all the small moments of connective tissue it adds. Our investment in the team, as well as the townspeople of Veldt is much greater with the added context. If you choose to watch one version, then Curse of Forgiveness is the way to go. Now, sit back, annihilate your tastebuds with a Suckerpunch Dill Pickle Sour from Destihl, find her, and fight! The Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Bling Blake, and Chumpzilla are laying the smack down to the Motherworld's forces with an antler in each hand! Meatless Chili (With Amazon Affiliate Links to Ingredients):  1 Pound (16oz) of Dried Red Kidney Beans   2 Cans (10oz) No Salt Added RoTel 2 Cans (10oz) Fire Roasted Diced Tomatoes and Green Chilies  1 Medium Onion Diced 4 Tablespoons Cumin 2 Tablespoons Onion Powder 4 Tablespoons Chili Powder 1 Cup Bulgar Wheat  2 Tablespoons Liquid Aminos  Directions: Add kidney beans, RoTel, Onion, Cumin, Onion Powder, and Chili Powder to Instant Pot.  Set to pressure cook for 1 hour on high.  After pressure valve releases, add Bulgar Wheat.  Then, pressure cook another 20 minutes. After cooking is completed and. Instant Pot is depressurized, stir in Liquid Aminos. Serving Suggestion:   Serve in a bowl with raw, chopped onion, chopped jalapeño and a dash of hot sauce or lime DRINK  We got suggestions for our show in the coming year and one was the desire to see food and beer pairings.  So what goes with our vegetarian chili?  A website where we have found some delicious and healthy recipes for many years, Cooking Light, recommends a Pilsner.  This week we try a beer from Destihl called Normal Pils.  It is a bready beer with a 5% ABV.  Sweet malt and earthy hops are at play to cool our palate after our spicy take on vegetarian recipe this week.   THAT’S A WRAP! - Here’s hoping you are off to a great year in 2021! In the midst of the last Great Recession, Potts felt the itch to turn his brewing hobby into a profession. While preparing and studying at the Siebel Institute, he fell in love with sour beer. He set out to brew it at his own brewery in an unlikely place for sour beer—smack dab in the middle of the agricultural heartland of Illinois. After seeing the demand at the Great American Beer Festival in 2011, Destihl (https://www.destihl.com) committed to expanding its sour beer production. That has led them on a trajectory they’ve followed to the current day, where 50 percent of the beer they brew is of the sour variety. Quick-sour beers are a large part of that volume, but unlike typical kettle sours, Destihl doesn’t just push a fast Lactobacillus fermentation. Instead, they use their own mixed culture built from a spontaneous capture in the brewery—an approach that gives them flavors they can call their own. Developing a process to scale their quick-sour program was not easy, and Potts walks us through the successes and setbacks along the way. That process of innovation is one that they’ve applied with similar force to evolving styles like hazy IPA, and Potts also talks about how they developed their own take on the style—one that’s shelf-stable and capable of tasting great in their far-flung retail markets. They’ve done it without sacrificing elements they find crucial to the style, such as dry hopping during active fermentation to achieve bio-transformative effects. Location is no impediment to brewing great sour beer, as long as you seek out your own process and your own creative voice. Destihl is proof of that. Podcast: Interviews and Mustaches collide at this year's Screw City Beer Fest 2018 It was perhaps the best Screw City Beer Fest yet with a new location on the rock River in rockford, IL with an excellent performance by founders Aaron Sleger and Chris Wachowiak. The festival featured 15 new breweries (more than 50 total), delish local food, 2 hop companies (sharing hoppiness), one home brew club (that served more than 100 gallons of beer brewed by locals), a beer podcast (complete with free mustaches), a crew of awesome volunteers, drones, lawn games, line dancing, lounging, live music for the more than 2,500 thirsty, festive drinkers. This podcast episode features the Home Brew Rock Stars interviewing festival host Aaron Sleger and the majority of the Forest City Brewers club members (15 total) that brewed and served their special beers. We also interview some craft breweries that include Destihl and Polyanna, as well as the guys from Forest City Hops and Live Wire Hops.
