Send us a textWe've hit the road south from Darwin after an incredible 3 months in the Top End! We set up camp in Katherine for a few nights to experience 2 must-do activities that we have never done before including a visit to Katherine Outback Experience, owned and operated by Tom Curtain. This tour is fantastic and gives you a great insight into daily life on an outback farm in Katherine. We watched the horses and working dogs being trained, fed the farm animals and Katie even learned how to crack a whip! Look out! The highlight of our stay was the wonderful Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) boat tour. We chose the Nit Nit Dreaming 2 Gorge Tour and were blown away by the incredible beauty of the gorge. We can't believe in all our years traveling we have never stopped to visit this spectacular National Park. Plus, we camp up at a quite Hipcamp on the outskirts of town, and spend a night at the National Park campground.Get your hands on our Red Centre eBook and start planning your road trip today! - https://shopthefeelgoodfamily.com/products/the-red-centre-ebook-the-ultimate-road-trip-through-central-australia Watch our TV series Feel Good RoadTrips on the 7Plus streaming platform - https://thefeelgoodfamily.com/feelgood-roadtrips-channel-seven-tv-series/ This episode is proudly brought to you by our mates at Adventure Pumps – extend your time camping off grid with their fantastic 12v water transfer pump kit! Central Station - Stories from Outback Australian Cattle Stations
Golden-guitar winning Tom Curtain and his incredible wife and business partner, Annabel, were our guests on the very first episode of this podcast way back in June 2019. Way back when I had never recorded a podcast, and didn't know what sound quality was.So, last night I sat down with Tom and Annabel for take two.My plan was to rerecord just our first episode in better sound quality, but plans changed. So, in this episode you will hear some condensed versions of stories that were covered in episode one, including Tom's childhood, how Tom and Annabel met, and the Katherine Outback Experience origin story. There's also a few new stories from those times, and then we catch up on what's been happening since Tom and Annabel last appeared on the show – including the birth of two children, a number of national tours, and the new album which is released in a couple of weeks. Sometimes you can't connect the dots looking forward – you can only do that while looking back. And looking back on this episode, and the experiences that Tom and Annabel have had, it's clear that these two have given everything in their path a good crack, and when times have been tough their resilience and sense of adventure shines through.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/central-station. With a swag of Golden Guitar Awards under his belt, the Independent Songwriter of the Year trophy sitting on his shelf, and a bunch of other accolades from all sides of the industry, Tom Curtain is one of Australia's finest exponents of song. As well as being an absolute legend of a fella, one hell of a horseman and animal whisperer, and with an array of skills far beyond the usual, he has a unique perspective and method of writing, and covers a huge swathe of territory in this episode - it's one not to be missed.
Animals can teach us a few things about how teams work and how to bring out the best in people. This is a fascinating area of study demonstrated through the Katherine Outback Experience, a show developed from years in the Australian outback by entertainer Tom Curtain.Tom specialises in breaking in horses and working dogs that others have found difficult to train. By studying their personalities, Tom works out the secret to getting the best out of each animal and applies the same principles to his team. The lessons make a unique show for corporate events that want a show involving horses, a singer-songwriter and ideas for better team building. Tom has won multiple awards in Australian tourism and for his country music. Quotes From Episode"I just think if bosses are aware of how (staff) are feeling, what they could have gone through and even just being an ear or even if colleagues could read other people (and) be a bit more in tune with their body language, the team environment could really click into gear and become more efficient instead of everyone sitting back and doing enough to get by and watching the clock.""(The horses) all had different personalities and it's just from getting smashed, bitten, kicked, run over, stomped, bucked off, bolting horses. So I'm very lucky to be here, to be honest, but each time I got hurt or injured, I'd try to remember what the horse was doing. It's like a jigsaw puzzle and I'm still trying to piece it together but I think that's just half the challenge."-Tom CurtainDon't miss:-Transforming the way we break in horses for a kinder and more effective outcome-How observing animals taught Tom ways to get the best out of people-The journey from difficult business days to having high impact-Giving back to Australia's rural communities-What corporates can learn from the Katherine Outback ExperienceNever Never Land won CMAA Golden Guitar Awards' Heritage Song of the Year in 2018. Country music star Tom Curtain catches up with the NT Country Hour to talk about his new single, 'We're Still Here'.
Tom Curtain's Katherine Outback Experience is a popular NT tourist destination. But it wasn't always that way. When Tom first floated the idea with friends, they thought he was mad and he almost didn't do it. In the first year, attendances to Tom's show was in the single digits. But he persisted. And these days, with a list of hit songs and the who's who of country music as friends, Tom Curtain has every reason to smile. He is currently touring with his 'Speak Up' show in honour of the late, Dolly Everett.
