Hard business decisions aren't always hard because the stakes are high. Sometimes they're hard because you're trying to decide without a filter, and every option feels the same weight. In this episode I'm getting blunt about the real issue: a missing brand foundation. If your brand looks “right” but something in you recoils, that reaction is data. It usually points to one thing: identity congruence, the match between what you believe on the inside and what your brand signals on the outside. In this episode, I dig into why so many founders build a brand that mirrors the industry, then wonder why it feels generic, attracts price shoppers, or creates that constant need to push and sell. When consumer behaviour is driven by emotion and attention is fragmented, safe branding becomes the most expensive choice. Want to join me in person for a full day workshop? But for me, nothing could be further from the truth. What I see everyday at WAGEC, I see people [in our team] who are really good at their jobs, with incredible heart and soul and professionalism and adding wisdom to some of the most complex problems in our community."Links:Connect with Nicole and the work of WAGEC at www.wagec.org.auConnect with Nicole Yade on LinkedinInstagram follow Nicole Yade (@nicoleyadee)Connect with Rebecca Allen on LinkedinGet your copy of Rebecca's free guide, 7 Strategic Shifts to Position You as a High-Impact LeaderRate, Review, & Follow our Show on Apple Podcasts:Also, if you haven't done so already, follow the podcast. The distance between what your brand intends to communicate and what people actually receive before logic even kicks in. I then cover why most brand problems live at the pre-conscious layer, why AI can't diagnose what you haven't identified yet, the difference between brand strategy and marketing execution (and why confusing the two keeps you spinning), and a real client example that shows exactly how shifting the right layer changed everything. If you've been solving at the surface, this is where to start.Free Guide: The Market Shift. Reflect on one action you could take this quarter to strengthen ownership and accountability in your organisation. Whether it's improving financial transparency, developing leadership capability, or exploring profit sharing, small disciplined steps can shift culture meaningfully.Summary KeywordsProfit Sharing, Leadership, Financial Transparency, Cash Flow, Accountability, Culture, Ownership Mindset, Engagement, Continuous Improvement, Sustainable GrowthEpisode SummaryIn this episode, Brad Jeavons speaks with Rob Gallaher, CEO and author of Profit Sharing: The Power of Shared Success, about how structured profit sharing can strengthen performance and culture.Rob's interest in profit sharing came after building a growing business that was financially successful but personally unsustainable. Long hours, high stress, and the common frustration that “no one cares like the owner does” led him to search for a better model He realised the gap was alignment. Employees were paid regardless of profitability, so daily decisions weren't directly connected to business outcomes. Profit sharing became a way to bridge that gap — helping team members think and act more like owners.Rob emphasises that profit sharing is not simply a bonus system. Done well, it:Aligns effort with financial resultsBuilds accountability and cost awarenessEncourages long-term thinkingStrengthens trust and transparencySupports a high-performance cultureHowever, success depends on strong foundations. Key principles include:Pay profit share monthly.Ensure the payout is meaningful.Set attainable targets.Provide clarity on how profit is calculated.Demonstrate consistent leadership and integrity.Keep profit sharing visible in conversations.Support employees with financial education.Protect long-term customer and team relationships.Understand cash flow and true profit.Always follow through on commitments The conversation reinforces that profit sharing alone won't fix weak leadership or poor systems. It works best when combined with trust, transparency, and disciplined financial management.A powerful outcome Rob shares is seeing team members treat customers with such ownership that clients assume they are the business owner — a strong sign of cultural alignment The broader message is clear: financial systems can reinforce culture. This week, I sit down with Michele Scherr to explore a deeply human and often overlooked part of major life transitions:The loss of identity that can occur when familiar roles fall away.Whether leaving the military, healthcare, corporate life, sport, or any structured environment, the first twelve months can be one of the most vulnerable periods for mental health.Even with strong support systems, many people quietly struggle with one powerful question:“Who am I now?”In this powerful conversation, Michele explains why recovery is not about chasing more programs, retreats, or quick fixes — it's about building a stable foundation rooted in self-understanding.We explore how identity loss impacts purpose, emotional wellbeing, and direction, and why so many people feel unsettled despite doing “all the right things.”At the core of Michele's work is helping people reconnect with:✔️ Their natural design✔️ Their body's signals✔️ Personal rhythms✔️ What genuinely supports their wellbeingBecause healing becomes far more sustainable when you understand yourself first. We also discuss how personalised routines around sleep, nutrition, movement, and environment can create stability during uncertain times — and why slowing down often creates more clarity than pushing forward. If you are navigating a transition, feeling untethered from who you once were, or searching for meaning in what comes next, this episode offers a grounded reminder:Clarity doesn't come from doing more, it comes from listening.Connect with Michele Scherr:LinkedIn  → linkedin.com/in/michele-scherrWebsite → personalisedhealthandwellbeingsolutions.com.auConnect with Steve:Instagram → https://bit.ly/3KARQhR LinkedIn  → https://bit.ly/48sw8Vj Episode Highlights00:00:00 - Why the first twelve months after transition are the most dangerous00:00:45 - The overwhelm of too many support options00:01:30 - The jigsaw puzzle metaphor and missing foundations00:02:40 - Identity, purpose, and ego during transition00:03:30 - Masks, personas, and adaptation versus authenticity00:04:40 - Listening to the body for personal cues00:05:40 - Sleep, nutrition, movement, and individual design00:06:55 - Adjusting routines to real life circumstances00:08:10 - Creating emotional stability before interventions00:09:20 - Curiosity as the entry point to self understanding00:10:30 - Personalisation, alignment, and sustainability00:11:40 - Healing that feels easy because it fitsABOUT THE PODCAST SHOWThe Noise of Life is a podcast that shares real stories, raw truths, and remarkable growth. Michele Scherr and I explored what happens when the structure, identity and purpose that once defined your life suddenly disappear. Michele speaks openly about her transition out of military service and the deep emotional toll that followed. The isolation, the loss of meaning and the quiet despair that can sit beneath the surface even when support appears to be all around you.She is a former nurse, military veteran and precision health specialist who understands transition from the inside out. She shares what it felt like to lose not one identity, but two, and how that unravelling led her into a period of depression, suicidal ideation and a profound questioning of her value and place in the world. This conversation goes where many avoid, into the spaces people rarely speak about once the uniform comes off or a chapter closes. We talk about why identity and purpose sit at the core of mental health during major life transitions, why the first year after leaving structured environments can be the most dangerous and how the noise of modern life makes it harder to hear what we need. In this powerful solo episode, Leila Lutz delves deep into the importance of understanding your personal "food story" - the beliefs, patterns, and experiences that have shaped your relationship with food. Drawing from her own transformative journey, Leila shares how her lifelong struggle with under-eating and high-achieving behaviour stemmed from a complex web of family dynamics, trauma, and the need to create safety and security.Leila candidly explores how her background as the eldest daughter in a chaotic, financially-strained household influenced her tendency to push food aside in pursuit of constant achievement. She unpacks the addictive nature of adrenaline and cortisol, and how this "busy" mindset kept her from truly nourishing herself. With raw vulnerability, Leila also reveals the generational trauma and beliefs around food that were passed down from her mother's own difficult upbringing. This powerful insight underscores Leila's unique approach to coaching, which emphasizes the critical role of self-parenting and taking responsibility for one's own healing.Throughout the episode, Leila offers listeners a glimpse into her personal process of uncovering and addressing these deep-seated patterns, highlighting the importance of consistent self-care, mindful eating, and creating a life of balance and connection. There is nothing more I love talking about than content and AI... Because I find so much sh*t content online at the moment, adding to the noise that people are putting out to just be in peoples feeds. But is it worth just adding to the noise with content that isn't engaging, thought provoking or even interesting?I am joined by my fav content unicorn, Charlotte Lane. We're diving into AI's capabilities in automating tasks like research and customer profiling, while also addressing its limitations in replicating human creativity and emotional storytelling. Our convo covers the potential risks, ethical concerns, and how to thoughtfully integrate AI into business strategies. Charlotte emphasises the importance of understanding AI's impact on business branding and maintaining authenticity.Charlotte started The Copy Unicorn (originally named Copy Fox Content) back in 2020 - she quickly realised that her human focused approach aligned with years of writing experience quickly led to marketing magic for her clients. And it was these clients that bestowed the name of the The Copy Unicorn upon her.Since 2020 she has been helping business owners find the human stories behind their success. The stories that we often discount as “everyday life”, are usually the ones that inspire and connect us the most to our clients. Which is why Charlotte's skill set lies specifically in uncovering those stories and tying them back to your services, or everyday actions that your clients can take to get them closer towards their success.Because magical marketing isn't about buzz words, the biggest ad-spend or spending hours learning 20-second dance routines, magical marketing happens when connection allows you to stand out not as the number 1 choice, but the only choice.Email: charlotte@thecopyunicorn.com.auConnect on LinkedIn with Charlotte LaneDOWNLOAD MY CONTENT PLANNER - https://becchappell.com.au/content-planner/Instagram @bec_chappellLinkedIn – Bec Chappell If you're ready to work together, I'm ready to work with you and your team. How to work with me:1.
