Have you ever heard of the Vegetable Lamb? A plant that grew tiny sheep. It sounds like something made up, yet people went searching for this cross between plant and animal and there are stories of plants being shipped to London, studied by scientists, who couldn't identify what kind of specimen they were looking at. In North-East Africa, they tell about the Man Eating Lotus of Nubia. A tree that sustains itself by consuming flesh. South America and Mexico are home to the Planta Vampira, a blood drinking vine that can attack unwary travelers. Listen up to find out about some more things to worry about as you go through life.

We have arisen! It seems like we're moving toward an every-other-week uploading schedule. Honestly we're doing our best! Life can be hard! But we will bring you a new cryptid as many times a month as we possible can. This week, Erica is diving in to her very recent medical history, and Lindsey is talking about a legendary zoophyte, the Vegetable Lamb of Tartary! Upon listening back to the episode, I realize that the "crab flesh" the accounts referred to were probably the "meat" of the vegetable lamb, not it's exoskeleton. Always remember: I am kind of a dipshit. But we figured it all out now and like... this isn't real, so who is to say the lamb didn't have a crablike exoskeleton? Submit your cryptid, ghost, or otherwise spooky stories to JustMightExistPodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram for updates on the show! We can't wait to share our findings with you. WELCOME BACK! Or, if you're just finding us, maybe don't start with this one because things get real weird real fast. Episode 12 starts off as Meg dives into the tragic history of the incredibly haunted Whaley House, and somehow makes a parallel to the Kardashians. Rose talks about her strangest cryptid yet (we know we've said that before, but trust us this time) called the Vegetable Lamb of Tartary, which someone literally wrote a whole book about that you can read online for free. Finally, Anna skims the surface of the many theories surrounding the moon landing being faked, and it leaves us wondering if maybe space itself is just a giant hoax. NASA, if you're listening, pretend we didn't say anything.

James Shakeshaft plays against type by offering up a story that's very nearly historically accurate. The legend of the Vegetable Lamb of Tartary or 'Barometz' seemed so plausible. It was a grazing lamb that grew on a bush; it seemed like it HAD to be real. The stories were so convincing a series of extraordinarily named men launched expeditions to find it. They didn't find it. It's not a real thing. Come one, a vegetable lamb? What next, strawberry crackling? Beef tomatoes? BLOOD ORANGES?!   Chuck us a few pennies here Ko-fi.com/Loremen @loremenpod www.instagram.com/loremenpod www.facebook.com/loremenpod @JamesShakeshaft | @MisterABK

Science isn’t always right. I know! Shocker. Once, some scientists had this theory about the Vegetable Lamb of Tartary. They truly believed that the lamb grew on a tree. To be fair, it was the Middle Ages in Europe and things were kind of like America right now. People had no clue about stuff, but they pretended to. Anyway, according to Ripley’s Believe it Or Not, There were believed to be two distinct varieties of Vegetable Lamb: a bizarre plant that produced tiny lambs inside pods, and an equally-bizarre hybrid creature that consisted of a whole, full-sized lamb, which lived suspended from the ground by a small stem! Chris Littlechild, Ripley’s Believe it Or Not People believed this for centuries, right? Centuries. What does this have to do with writing? When we write, we bring our pasts, our systems of belief and it ends up on our pages. Our work reflects our society and it reflects our own morality and beliefs. To be a good writer, we have to know what our truths are but also be willing to be challenged about them. Writing is a communication, a social contract between the writer and the reader. We’re asking our readers to share our story, but also more subconsciously, to hear about our world views and thoughts. We’re inviting them in. WRITING TIP OF THE POD It’s good for us to look at our own beliefs and morality occasionally. What do we believe in? Why do we think that’s right or true? How is that showing up in our stories? DOG TIP FOR LIFE Dogs truths are simple. Love is good. Food is good. Sleep is good. Squirrels are evil. Don’t be afraid to gel your beliefs down into simplicity. HEAR MY BOOK BABY (AND MORE) ON PATREON On February first, I launched my Patreon site where I’m reading chapters (in order) of a never-published teen fantasy novel, releasing deleted scenes and art from some of my more popular books. New things can be scary, but there’s a cool primer HERE that explains how it works. Buzz worthy seems like an awesome thing to be deemed! You can preorder this bad boy, which might make it have a sequel. The sequel would be amazing. Believe me, I know.
