Send us a textHello and welcome back to Breakfast with Mom!Today I want to tell you about Mary Lillian Ellison, known as The Fabulous Moolah.  Mary Lillian Ellison  was an iconic professional wrestler whose career spanned more than five decades, making her one of the most influential and groundbreaking figures in the history of women's wrestling.  You can find my resources in the show notes.Mary was born on July 22, 1933, in Kershaw, South Carolina, and grew up in Tookiedoo, 12 miles from Columbia. She was the youngest of five children, Ellison was the only daughter of Henry Lee and Suzann Atkinson Ellison. When her mother died of cancer, eight-year-old Ellison went to live with her paternal grandmother and worked on her cousin's cotton farm to make money. At age 10, she was still deeply distraught over her mother's death; to cheer her up, her father took her to the local wrestling matches. She liked the matches, but it was not until she saw Women's Champion Mildred Burke wrestle that they began to mean much more to her.Resources:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fabulous_Moolah#Early_lifehttps://www.wwe.com/superstars/fabulousmoolahhttps://www.findagrave.com/memorial/22652130/lillian-ellisonhttps://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/myrtlebeachonline/name/mary-ellison-obituary?id=15666334https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ellison-5242https://www.npr.org/2007/11/07/16073575/remembering-the-fabulous-moolahAll the things: Music: "Electronic Rock (King Around Here)" by Alex Grohl https://pixabay.com/music/search/electronic%20rock%20kingLogo Artwork: Strawbeary Studios https://www.youtube.com/@StrawbearyStudios/featuredEpisode was researched, written and edited by ShanoaSocial Media:  https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100090200010112X (formerly Twitter): @breakfastmompod

So that's going to change the pattern," -Dr. Henry Lee, forensic scientist on John O'Keefe's arm. We're back with more perplexing questions surrounding the tragic death of Boston Police Officer, John O'Keefe. It seems that the "twitter-verse" has conflicting opinions on almost everything, even with ample legal documentation available (so much information appears to be inconclusive). The question of whether or not O'Keefe was bit by Brian Albert's german shepherd, and when/if DNA was tested, is a huge point of contention. Dr. Henry Lee, renowned professor and forensic scientist (notably worked on the Jon Benet Ramsey Case & JFK Assassination), explains why everyone needs to stop speculating about the marks on O'Keefe's arm, until there is irrefutable evidence available.EPISODE NOTES: NOONBREW 10% OFF:https://noonbrew.superfiliate.com/OUTLIER DISCOUNT LINK FOR NEXT EVO CBD (DISCOUNT POPS UP)https://nextevo.com/?irclickid=2V4RtwVyzxyPTTLSAyWvyTaMUkH1f6xf8Ro8Rc0&irgwc=1&utm_source=The%20Outlier%20Podcast&utm_medium=impact&utm_campaign=affiliate TAKE AN ONLINE CLASS TO LEARN OR SHARPEN ANY SKILL AND GET A FREE MONTH BY CLICKING THIS LINK AND SIGNING UP!https://skillshare.eqcm.net/c/2057049/1917540/4650KAREN READ CASE DOCS (THANKS TO @SLEUTHIEGOOSIE)https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mfZzRhh57-3Pi_3PxCJe-F9baLMqD0D-/viewhttps://www.henryleeinstitute.com/about/dr-henry-lee/ Hosted on Acast. Join Mind Over Murder podcast co-hosts Bill Thomas and Kristin Dilley for our annual True Crime Holiday Gift Guide for 2023. Kristin creates a list of some of the best books and other gift ideas, and we discuss why they would make a great gift for your favorite true crime fan, including yourself. Thanks to all of you for your support this year. Happy Holidays!True Crime Holiday Gift Guide 2023 Welcome to the true crime holiday gift guide for 2023. If you don't know what to get for the true crime aficionado in your life, never fear … the True Crime Holiday Gift Guide is here! We're happy to offer you our humble opinions on the best books of this year, as well as recommendations for other crime themed gifts as well. Sit back, relax, grab a cup of seasonal coffee, and peruse the list. Whenever possible, we encourage you to support small businesses by buying these books direct from the author or from indie bookstores. In Light of All Darkness—Kim Cross. For my money, this is the best true crime book of the entire year, if not one of the best I've ever read. Kim Cross offers the book of record on the Polly Klaas kidnapping, investigation, and aftermath. It's the most thoroughly researched and well-written book on the case, and it alternately had me in tears of rage and sympathy. Highly recommended! We interviewed Kim on episode #307 of Mind Over Murder, which ran October 9, 2023. Tangled Vines—John Glatt. This year has seen new twists and turns in the Murdaugh and Murdaugh-adjacent cases and a lot of media coverage as a result. Out of the myriad books, documentaries, and podcasts related to the case, one stands out over the others and that's this book from veteran true crime author John Glatt, which offers the most comprehensive look at the case and the closest accounting of the damage the Murdaugh dynasty has done to the Low Country over the years. We interviewed John on episode #289 of Mind Over Murder which ran August 7, 2023. We liked our conversation with John Glatt so much we ran it again as a Thursday bonus episode on October 19, 2023. Lost Girls—Robert Kolker. The Long Island Serial Killer (LISK) case (or Gilgo Beach case) came roaring back into the spotlight in July with the arrest of Rex Heuermann as the suspected killer of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Melissa Barthelemy, Shannan Gilbert, Megan Watermen, and Amber Costello, as well as other unidentified victims on nearby Fire Island. While the case continues to unfold in the media, catch up on the lives of the victims and the early theories of the case with Kolker's 2014 book. We interviewed Bob on episode 301 of Mind Over Murder Monday, September 18, 2023. We also recently discussed whether Rex Heuermann could be connected with the unsolved Route 29 Stalker case in Virginia with Sarah Sherman Soule just recently on December 4, episode #323. A Light in the Dark—Kathy Kleiner Rubin. It's time to stop caring about Ted Bundy. His victims deserve our attention. Serial survivor Kathy Kleiner Rubin's story is the one you want to be reading instead. A survivor of childhood lupus, breast cancer, Hurricane Katrina, and the horrific attack by Bundy, Kathy's story is the light in the dark that we all need to guide us in times of trouble. Don't miss this amazing and hopeful book. We interviewed Kathy in our episode dated October 30, 2023 of Mind Over Murder, episode #313. In My DNA—Lindsey Wade. Case work at its finest is on display in this great new book from Investigator Lindsey Wade. Her career is notable for her focus on cold cases that can be solved with DNA, especially those of two missing young women in Seattle. Join Lindsey for an absolutely intriguing look at her cases and her career. We interviewed Lindsey on episode #315 of Mind Over Murder, dated November 6. Evidence of Things Seen—Sarah Weinman. A follow-up to her amazing collection of long-form true crime pieces UNSPEAKABLE ACTS, Sarah's newest collection EVIDENCE OF THINGS SEEN takes a lean toward social justice and the ethics of true crime. A much-needed spotlight is shed on these increasingly serious matters, leaving the reader with a lot to ponder. We interviewed Sarah about this collection on episode #249 of Mind Over Murder on March 20, 2023. We liked to so much we re-ran it as a bonus episode on October 5. America Autopsy—Dr. Michael Baden. Ask any true crime fan to name forensic experts and several names will rise to the top … Dr. Henry Lee, Dr. Cyril Wecht, and, above all, Dr. Michael Baden. Dr. Baden not only reflects on his amazing career but also on the very real issues of racism in policing through gripping stories of his most challenging cases. We interviewed Dr. Baden about his work on episode #282 of Mind Over Murder on July 13, 2023. The Hunt for Brianna Maitland—Greg Overacker. One of the most confounding cases to come out of Vermont over the last two decades is the disappearance of Brianna Maitland. Private Investigator Greg Overacker has written the definitive book of record on the case, using his own investigation into Brianna's disappearance and probable murder as a stepping stone. We interviewed Greg Overacker last week, on Mind Over Murder episode #325. In the Damage Path—Dr. Katherine Ramsland. Dr. Ramsland's Nutcracker series is our one nod to fiction on this list. This rip-roaring installment sees Annie Hunter (modeled on the good doctor herself) knee deep in a mysterious crime on the Outer Banks of North Carolina … and she's in for some nasty weather to boot! The answer to the question “how is a serial killer like a violent storm” can be found in these well-written pages. Look for several episodes with Dr. Ramsland earlier this season, most recently on July 24, 2023 as episode #285. A Murder in Hollywood—Casey Sherman. This excellent new book from Casey Sherman of HELLTOWN fame will not be out until February 2024 but we urge you to preorder it! This glitzy, gritty look at the murder of Hollywood starlet Lana Turner's abusive boyfriend Johnny Stompanato is full of first-rate storytelling and writing. Look for our episode with Casey Sherman in February…and look for Kristin's blurb on the back cover of the book! On the night of January 8, 1993, two armed assailants entered a Brown's Chicken restaurant in Palatine, Illinois, just before closing time and proceeded to brutally murder seven employees, all for less than $2000. Years would go by before police would get their big break. In those interim years, the BGA would release their scathing report on the investigation, the ISCC would form their panel to refute the BGA, the victim's families would file lawsuits against Brown's Chicken. Everyone wanted someone to blame for this crime, but the killers remained elusive. That is, until 2002, when a phone call between old high school friends would change everything.  Sponsors: Hello Fresh Go to HelloFresh.com/50creepers and and use code 50creepers for 50% off plus free shipping! Convicted in 1989 of the brutal murder of 65-year-old Everett Carr in New Milford, Connecticut, Ricky Birch and Shawn Henning were sentenced to 50 years behind bars without any physical evidence tying them to the crime scene. At trial, prosecutors had to explain to a jury how the two men, then only in their teens, managed to beat and stab their victim over 25 times without getting a single drop of his blood onto their clothing. To do so, the district attorney's office relied on the testimony of the state's top pathologist ..a man very well known to true crime content enthusiasts. A man by the name of Dr. Henry Lee. Today, Dr. Lee is considered one of the country's foremost experts on forensic science. Birch and Henning spent decades in prison substantially based on Dr. Henry Lee's testimony at their trial. More than 30 years after they were convicted, new information came to light and eventually led to their convictions being vacated in 2020. Subsequent to that, Dr. Henry Lee's reputation would come under intense scrutiny and he found himself in legal trouble.   The question now rests in the court of public opinion: Did Dr. Henry Lee make a devastating error on the witness stand? Or, did a man who's investigated some of the country's most prominent crimes of the last three decades lie to obtain a conviction? This week we catch up with a couple ol' timers. First up is 80s heartland rocker Henry Lee Summer. In the late 80s, Henry scored a couple big hits with "Wish I Had a Girl" and "Hey Baby" and cut a memorable image with his giant mullet and tight jeans. Times got tough for Henry there for a while - drug addiction, arrests, bankruptcy, divorce etc - but he's working his way back with a new album. Then we hear from Melanie of Woodstock and "Brand New Key" fame. Melanie's still at it and tours frequently (but doesn't make any money off "Key" which is shocking) and has a new album called The Magic Bus which is a radio station visit she made back in 1972. She tells the complete story of Woodstock and more. Enjoy!  www.henryleesummer.com www.melaniesafka.com

After seemingly getting away with one murder and multiple other crimes, why wouldn't Henry's actions escalate? In this episode we cover how this career criminal made his way to being labeled a serial killer. It began with his trip to Bartlett, Tennessee where his audacity reached new heights after he unalived elderly couple Clarence and Lillian James in front of a witness. With their stolen credit cards in hand, he headed back to Florida where he did very little to cover his tracks after killing Carlos Perez in a motel room in Melbourne.  Tune in as Elysia continues to remind everyone that these crimes all happened when Henry should have still been in prison and Savannah attempts to restrain herself from glorifying a serial killer for his choice of vanity plate.    Don't forget to leave us the weekly emoji! There's really nothing extraordinary about Henry Lee Jones as far as serial killers go, with one exception. He really should have still been in prison when he committed his most heinous crimes. Thanks to a court system that consistently handed him minimal sentences and a prison system that released him far too soon due to overcrowding, Henry was free to unleash his violence for far too long. Weird that he could be, maybe? Really not. His story is like a lot of local-but-more-music heroes. Cleveland and Providence and Pittsburgh and Toronto. Artists like Donnie Iris, Kim Mitchell, John Cafferty, and Joe Grushecky.   Henry Lee Summer mined the sound of late 80's rock and roll with his own little twist, influenced by Top 40 AM radio hooks, and, in the best way, a product of live sets in the smoke and noise and chaos of a live rock and roll club. His is the sound of the Midwest. The studio recordings - most of them - shined up for presentation to the masses, and the live shows greased and gritted for the faithful. And he played great shows. Evenings that turned revival-ish. A shared act of live, loud, shakin' crowd-into-it rock and roll.  Henry Lee, well beyond most of his hit-making days, brought the goods, man. His last hit was the early 90s.  I saw him making it rock in a live setting be fantastic ten years past that.   And then he wasn't.  And now he is again. I loved seeing Henry Lee live. Here's an episode driven by a hope to share how great that act was without overselling it.  Because in the end, Henry Lee Summer had a handful of hits on the radio. Nothing more than that - unless you saw him live. Then it makes more sense: the straining-to-be-loose studio albums that never quite were roughed up enough (other than the second major label release  - "I've Got Everything") as he chased the right mix of hanging on and totally in the groove. That balance was what he harnessed on stage.   So these are my stories of discovery and the way one musician nothing much to most music fans, found a way to mean something more where he was and when he could.  Maybe this one is a little more personal than usual. I'm OK with that. I hope you are too. Enjoy the listen.   SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts Spotify Stitcher Google Podcasts Read Rob's current and archived writing at rockforwardmusic.com website: rockpopandroll.com EMAIL: rockpoprollpodcast@gmail.com

I ask him to pick one to share more on and he goes into depth about the Michael Peterson case in this episode as well as a case that was rewarding for him, but did not gain media attention. Matt volunteers as a chaplain and peer support for police agencies in Los Angeles. He also is a volunteer for nonprofits that support police officers in crisis, as well as those that are injured and disabled. Matt believes all first responders can have careers that provide deeper meaning and add richness to their spiritual lives if approached in the right manner. Matt is a medically retired police officer that worked patrol, Peer Support, SWAT, and as a full-time police academy instructor. Matt was the Wellness Coordinator for his agency integrating sports nutrition, strength, and conditioning, stress management, combatives-and-scenario training regarding officers as tactical athletes. He also was concurrently a collegiate strength coach at Yale and Georgetown Universities while a full-time police officer. Later he was a strength coach and mental skills trainer for NFL combine athletes. At Yale, he volunteered for Athletes in Action and at Georgetown, he created an ecumenical ministry Hoyas for Christ. Matt also has been a volunteer with Hockey Ministries International summer camps. Matt played linebacker and was a competitive powerlifter for the Air Force Academy and Colgate University. He has an MS in Forensic Science under Dr. Henry Lee, an MS in Sport Psychology under Dr. Ken Ravizza, a MA in Pastoral Theology with a concentration in Spiritual Direction from Loyola Marymount University, and an additional spiritual direction certificate from Stillpoint. Matt focused his studies and additional immersion experiences in the contemplative traditions as well as masculine spirituality and psychology. Matt's niche is spending time in the trenches with first responders and veterans establishing trust and rapport. He does weekly ride alongs and station visits, observes and participates in any training that he is invited to, and goes shooting with veterans transitioning out of the military. His approach is not the traditional reacting to crisis or responding to requests, rather he pro-activity spends time with those he cares about while they are on the job. Matt's priority is encouraging better overall wellness, life balance, mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual self-care BEFORE officers or firefighters experience a breakdown or a crisis. However, Matt is also well versed in response to critical incidents as well as spending time with first responders at treatment facilities for PTSD and substance abuse issues. His ministry vision post covid lockdown is to continue to spend time in the trenches with officers, provide confidential peer support and spiritual direction, and facilitate a contemplative prayer group with “way of council” sharing for first responders and veterans in Los Angeles. Matt also plans to offer free wellness events integrating various aspects of fitness and martial arts, mindfulness and yoga, small group sharing, and fellowship with ribeyes on the grill. In a variety of ways, he hopes to provide platforms where first responders learn to use their unique career experiences as a spiritual path, rather than it leading to breakdown which unfortunately happens too often in these professions. The case I have for you today is the murder of JonBenét Ramsey, which has been the most requested by our listeners since Paige and I started The Murder Diaries. Honestly we avoided it for a long time, because of the amount of rumors and theories there are about what “really” happened. You can literally spend years going down rabbit holes on some of these arguments, but the thing is, no matter how convincing a theory might be, JonBenét Ramsey's murder remains unsolved to this day, and she deserves to have her story told. And not in the way that the true community has done so over the years, inadvertently immortalizing her as a child beauty queen. When it comes down to it, JonBenét Ramsey was a 6-year-old girl, whose life and future were stolen from her. This is her story. We briefly explore his crypto journey, starting with a Layer 1 blockchain that he helped launch focusing on interoperability, where he also worked on Decentralized Identity and Verifiable Credentials. In 2021 Noox was born. Henry recalls the landscape was very much focused on NFTs then, with a few projects using transaction history to reward users, gate communities, and provide airdrops.  The vision of NOOX was to add more context to understand users in a more high-dimensional manner and evolve user tiering. They set out to find a way to contextualize user interactions and transaction data. While the MVP looked very different than today's product, the vision was always the same: to enable data as a composable piece of the web3 ecosystem.   If you want to learn more about Henry, you can follow him on Twitter @ hihenrylee and Noox @ noox_world      Thanks for listening to Crypto Sapiens.  If you enjoyed this conversation, please don't forget to like and subscribe wherever you are listening to this podcast.  You can also find more conversations like this one on our website @ cryptosapiens.xyz.  Until next time, stay brainy.
