On this episode of Cut to the Chase:, Dr. Adam Leibovich comes on to discuss the first images that we can see from the James Webb Telescope.   Dr. Leibovich, a physics professor at the University of Pittsburg and now the Director of the Pittsburgh Quantum Institute, shows us the first images, including images of Jupiter and he goes through the mission of the new telescope.    To watch this episode and see the actual images as Dr. L goes through them, go to my youtube channel here....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toNsIhrzlTQ Dr. L also explains how the James Webb Telescope differs from the Hubble Telescope and lots of fun possibilities, including whether the James Webb Telescope will be able to detect life outside our planet.   Exoplanets, infrared, gravitational lensing and of course whether this all proves or disproves Einstein's theory of general relativity.   With all the bad news in the world today, this topic is one bit of positive news.   The project is global in nature.   Anyone can apply to use the James Webb Telescope.   Here is how....  https://www.space.com/james-webb-space-telescope-observing-time-anonymous For some great up to date information, including the actual launch of the James Webb Telescope (it is currently 4 times further away from our planet than the Moon)-check out these links. https://jwst.nasa.gov/content/webbLaunch/whereIsWebb.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tXlqWldVVk&t=1s And for some super augment reality experiences through instagram-check out this link.  https://www.instagram.com/stories/highlights/17875130840557902/

On March 11, the Webb team completed the stage of alignment known as “fine phasing.” At this key stage in the commissioning of Webb's Optical Telescope Element, every optical parameter that has been checked and tested is performing at, or above, expectations. https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-s-webb-reaches-alignment-milestone-optics-working-successfully/ https://www.webb.nasa.gov/content/webbLaunch/whereIsWebb.html The Week In Space: Moon's orbit proposed as a gravitational wave detector. Researchers propose using the variations in distance between the Earth and the Moon, which can be measured with a precision of less than a centimeter, as a new gravitational wave detector within a frequency range that current devices cannot detect. The research could pave the way for the detection of signals from the early universe. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2022/03/220317094755.htm Follow The Sun: Materials scientists finding solutions to biggest hurdle for solar cell technology. Materials scientists have discovered the major reason why perovskite solar cells -- which show great promise for improved energy-conversion efficiency -- degrade in sunlight, causing their performance to suffer over time. The team successfully demonstrated a simple manufacturing adjustment to fix the cause of the degradation, clearing the biggest hurdle toward the widespread adoption of the thin-film solar cell technology. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2022/03/220315141803.htm Science Fiction: Ben fist gives us his review of the Kobo Sage, which was recommended by one of our Patrons.
