Everything Christmas from Where the Gearheads Are (with a little Judiasm and Islam thrown in), we've got a fun Xmas Day analysis of what's up in OUR world.  Why is it important to focus on being the giver?  How can you put all the phones away - if but for a day?  How do you overcome the challenge of shopping for a geek (shooters, gamers, gardeners, stereophiles and makers worldwide need apply)?  Why is "Sleigh Ride" the best Christmas song (even if it's 70º and sunny)?  Can a Xmas turkey (chili) satisfy all comers?  Is untraditional (or is it non?) Xmas music suitable for old peopled?  Why are old school, classical decorations always better?  ...Same for presents - how are over-the-shoulder throwback gifts always going to hit better than shiny new stuff?  There's also family movies, lost-and-found Xmas tunes, essential fireplaces, the Yule log, helping out the oldsters with their decorations (the effort matters), and lighting for a barbed-wire wreath. More/merrier: Christmas music from Brian Setzer, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Burl Ives, Boston Pops, Sepultura, Mannheim Steamroller, Louie Armstrong, Holst, Louie Primo, Guns 'N Roses, Steve Bennett, Dean Martin, with a little bit of James Bond on top.

Finally, if you got your driver's license more than two decades ago, you might not be aware of the law–in all 50 states–that can save the lives of emergency responders and our men and women in blue.  Host Gil Gross explains why it's important during holiday travel to know the rules of the road. Send us a textBefore penning the lyrics to “America the Beautiful,” Katharine Lee Bates shone a spotlight on the invisible (and not so invisible) labor tackled by an unsung Christmas heroine, Mrs. Claus. Bates's 1888 poem “Goody Claus on a Sleigh Ride” imagines Santa's spouse setting the record straight about who really does most of the work in preparation for Christmas. In this holiday episode, Amy confesses her own cynical feelings about the Yuletide season and reads this humorous poem with its surprisingly satirical and feminist bent. Redropping one of our favorite episodes from December 2024, Harry and Rafe start with the idea of a bleak midwinter, dart down some rabbit holes and tell some stories of old shenanigans, and end up on Christmas carols, in particular Sleigh Ride, O Holy Night, Cradle in Bethlehem, Still, Still, Still, and Joseph's Song.  Particular attention is paid to Paul Cardall's splendid instrumental version of Still, Still, Still, which serves as the intro and outro tunes for the episode. In the end, they come to the conclusion that Christmas should be done very intentionally to be done well, and that means starting with Advent and then fully embracing the thrill of Hope that Christmas gives to a weary world.*****As always, you can reach the Buf at bufnagle@bufnagle.com*****As you know, this is an independent podcast so your hosts also carry all the expenses of running this podcast. Rudolph, Jingling Horses, and Six Geese a Laying: Six Popular Christmas Songs Analyzed by an Animal Rights Activist

This Christmas, I thought it would be fun to analyze six popular Christmas songs referencing animals-other-than-humans (mostly mammals who are forced to pull people around the snow in sleds, and then some birds, mainly fowl who are killed and eaten by humans but sometimes avians humans admire for their beauty). The songs are  Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Run Run Rudolph, Sleigh Ride, Jingle Bells, The 12 Days of Christmas, and Nat King Cole's The Christmas Song.  In this 24-minute podcast (originally recorded Christmas 2024), I deconstruct these Christmas songs from a Critical Animal Studies perspective. In other words, as an animal rights activist who is sympathetic to the more-than-human-world and the perspectives and interests of other animal individuals and our shared habitats, I analyze these classic songs and what lessons they teach us about fellow animal species and how we could be more respectful, kind of like those Politically Correct Bedtime Story series that gives you a critical yet humorous perspective on classic tales in Western society. My Radio Free Georgia version of this episode has the license to broadcast these popular songs, but for my podcast friends, I don't have copyright permission to play the songs, so I linked to the youtube versions of the songs in the podcast notes here below. For the recording, I'll put a jingle bell sound in there when you can cue up the songs to play yourself if you want to. But I'll speak the key lyrics dealing with animals that I discuss. Send us a textWhat if Space Mountain became Santa's fastest delivery route and the Yeti threw on a red suit for the holidays? We grab our Stroopwaffle bourbon coffee and go full Imagineer, sketching Christmas overlays that turn familiar Disney attractions into fresh, festive adventures without losing what fans love most.We start with the big swing: Space Mountain as a sleigh run, sleigh-styled vehicles, rooftop and chimney projections, and upbeat holiday tracks synced to the lift and drops. Pirates gets a winking twist, recasting scenes as family-holiday archetypes—cookie-bearing aunts, the legendary tipsy uncle, a peekaboo “Christmas thief”—anchored by a cheeky “Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Nog.” Indiana Jones evolves into Eye of the Forbidden Nutcracker, with March of the Toy Soldiers, chestnuts roasting cameos, flurries in the dart scene, and a Santa-faced boulder barreling to Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.We keep rolling with overlays that feel big but install smart. Autopia turns into a North Pole light drive—snow tires, frosty vistas, and synchronized LEDs that make nighttime laps magical. Country Bear Jamboree needs only the right centerpiece: Big Al crooning Blue Christmas and a snow-kissed finale. Expedition Everest shifts to Expedition North Pole, a serene Winter Wonderland climb that snaps into Sleigh Ride chaos the moment the track ends, starring Disco Santa Yeti. Toy Story Mania goes Krampus Mania with coal shots, rooftop clears, and chipmunk hijinks scored to novelty classics. And for projection perfection, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway becomes a frantic Christmas Eve: traffic, last-minute shopping, Daisy's party dance, a scramble for Pluto's gift, and a peaceful ride home.If you're into holiday overlays, theme-park music cues, or just want a delicious bourbon coffee recipe, you'll have plenty to steal and debate. Hit follow, share with a Disney-loving friend, and tell us: which attraction needs a Christmas makeover next?

We poured a Stroopwaffle bourbon coffee and went all-in on seasonal overlays, sketching out scene-by-scene makeovers that keep each attraction's DNA intact while layering in music, projections, scents, and plenty of festive chaos.First up, Space Mountain gets a “Santa's Galactic Delivery” sprint with sleigh-styled cars, poppy Christmas tracks timed to the lift, and rooftop chimney fly-bys racing past in the dark. Pirates of the Caribbean becomes a family holiday fever dream—relatives re-cast as pirates, cats in Santa hats, and a cheeky “Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Nog” soundtrack. Indiana Jones Adventure morphs into Eye of the Forbidden Nutcracker with toy soldier set pieces, Chip and Dale roasting chestnuts, a Santa-faced boulder, and snow effects that turn the dart room into a blizzard. We keep the momentum going with Autopia as a North Pole light drive—minimal changes, maximum magic—ideal for night rides under synchronized holiday lights. Expedition Everest reimagined as Expedition North Pole sets up a cozy Winter Wonderland climb that snaps into Sleigh Ride-speed mayhem with a Disco Santa Yeti. Toy Story Mania goes full Krampus Mania with playful, song-timed targets that make every pull hilariously mischievous. And because projections make quick work of seasonal swaps, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway turns into a charming Christmas Eve dash: shopping traffic, Daisy's dance party, a last-minute Pluto gift run, and a calm cruise home with a Santa-bearded Chuby. If you love Disney parks, Jollywood Nights, and smart seasonal overlays that deliver fresh thrills without heavy downtime, this one's for you. Bram Stoker At the Edge of the Night e. Friedo Lampe The Song of Achilles e. Madeline Miller Stytturnar í hillunum e. Evu Rún Snorradóttur Guðrún Helgadóttir, Kristín Helga Gunnarsdóttir, Lemony Snicket og Ocean Vong Tónlist í þættinum í dag: Þorláksmessukvöld / Ragga Gísla (Robert Wells, Mel Tormé, texti Þorsteinn Eggertsson) Á jólunum er gleði og gaman / Eddukórinn (erlent lag, texti Friðrik G Þórleifsson) Jón Sigurðsson bassaleikari útsetti Sleigh Ride / The Ronettes (Leroy Anderson) UMSJÓN: GUÐRÚN GUNNARSDÓTTIR OG GUNNAR HANSSON

Formed in 1959 New York, the group—lead Ronnie Bennett, sister Estelle, and cousin Nedra Talley—defined girl-group era with their sultry style and Spector's "Wall of Sound," scoring hits like "Be My Baby" (#2 Hot 100) before disbanding in 1967 and earning Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2007.Analytic Dreamz traces the track's origins from Leroy Anderson's 1946 instrumental to The Ronettes' energetic version with signature "ring-a-ling" vocals and effects, overshadowed initially by its release timing but revived via 1972 reissue. Now a perennial juggernaut, it peaked at #8 Hot 100 (2023), earned 3× Platinum RIAA certification, fuels annual streams via playlists, TikTok virality (17K+ videos), syncs in shows like Hacks, and Target ads—driving the album to #7 Billboard 200 (2024) while cementing its status as a modern Christmas staple. Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/donationsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Top Stories for August 19th Publish Date: August 19th PRE-ROLL: MONSTER JAM From The BG AD Group Studio, Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Tuesday, August 19th and Happy Heavenly Birthday to Matthew Perry I’m Peyton Spurlock and here are your top stories presented by KIA Mall of Georgia Approaching 90, Lawrenceville's Bob Cunningham still in the swing of things as a golf teacher Rascal Flatts bringing Life Is A Highway tour to Gas South Arena Gwinnett wants to increase poll worker pay for 2026 elections All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! Break 1: Kia MOG STORY 1: Approaching 90, Lawrenceville's Bob Cunningham still in the swing of things as a golf teacher Come September, Bob Cunningham—“Georgia’s Golf Guru” to those who know him—will hit a milestone most golfers only dream of: turning 90 and still shooting his age. But for Bob, golf isn’t just about playing—it’s about teaching. Five days a week, you’ll find him at Pine Hills Golf Club or The Sports Academy, sharing his “Alignment, Balance, Connection” philosophy with students. Bob’s been teaching for over 20 years, charging the same $50 an hour since day one. And retirement? Not a chance. Bob’s secret to staying young? Golf, fresh air, and purpose. For lessons, call 770-378-4310. STORY 2: Rascal Flatts bringing Life Is A Highway tour to Gas South Arena Fresh off their sold-out comeback tour, Rascal Flatts is gearing up for another run in 2026 with their Life Is A Highway tour—and yep, they’re stopping in Gwinnett. Mark your calendar: Feb. 12 at Gas South Arena. Joining them? Country favorite Chris Lane, adding even more energy to the 21-city tour that’s set to bring all the hits (and probably a few tears) to fans across the country. Tickets? They’re already on sale, so don’t wait—grab yours at Ticketmaster before they’re gone. Because let’s be honest, they will be. STORY 3: Gwinnett wants to increase poll worker pay for 2026 elections Gwinnett County wants to bump up pay for poll workers in 2026—and honestly, it’s about time. With a packed election year ahead (think: governor, U.S. Senate, and all the chaos in between), they’re asking for $120,913 to raise stipends and $87,972 for in-person training. The pay hikes? Modest but meaningful: poll managers could see $350 a day (up $10), assistant managers $280 (up $40), issuing clerks $235 (up $20), and non-issuing clerks $170 (up $10). Why? To stay competitive with neighboring counties and attract qualified workers. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We’ll be right back Break 2: MONSTER JAM STORY 4: NBA Champion Adam Flagler Hosts Basketball Camp at Alma Mater Duluth Less than two months after winning an NBA championship with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Adam Flagler was back where it all started—Duluth High School—hosting his first-ever youth camp on Saturday. Over 200 kids showed up, from elementary schoolers to high school athletes, to learn from the former Wildcat who once dominated these same courts. Planning started months ago, with Duluth assistant coach Byron Wilson leading the charge. Flagler’s journey to the NBA wasn’t smooth. After graduating from Duluth in 2018 as the school’s all-time leading scorer, he took his only Division I offer at Presbyterian College. After a standout freshman year, he transferred to Baylor, where he helped the Bears win a national championship in 2021. Undrafted in 2023, Flagler signed with the Thunder, grinding in the G-League before earning a spot on the roster. This past season, he played 37 games and became an NBA champion. Now signed with the Spurs, Flagler’s future is bright, but Saturday was all about the kids. STORY 5: Study: Georgia Gwinnett College has made a $7 billion economic impact since its inception Georgia Gwinnett College isn’t just shaping minds—it’s driving dollars, too. Since 2007, GGC has pumped over $7 billion into the economy, according to a University System of Georgia study. Just last year? More than $558 million flowed into Gwinnett County and metro Atlanta, supporting nearly 3,800 jobs—on and off campus. With 14,000+ alumni living and working locally, GGC’s influence stretches far beyond its classrooms, building communities and preparing tomorrow’s leaders. We’ll be right back. Break: MONSTER JAM STORY 6: Let The Search Begin The Gwinnett County Board of Education is back at it—searching for yet another superintendent after firing two in just four years. It’s a mess, honestly. Who’s even going to want this job? And how do you find someone who can handle the chaos, the politics, and the sheer size of this district? This time, they’re slowing down. The board hired Alma Advisory Group for $99,840 to lead the search, promising community input through town halls, surveys, and focus groups. But critics are already talking. Some say the process feels predetermined, others worry about bias, and a few question if Alma’s track record is strong enough. Meanwhile, Interim Superintendent Al Taylor, a GCPS veteran, has quietly won over many with his steady leadership. Whoever takes the job will face big challenges: chronic absenteeism, behavior issues, budget scrutiny, and the ever-present pressure to improve academics. The board says they’ll have someone in place by the 2026 school year. But with so many eyes watching—and so much at stake—this hire feels like more than just filling a position. It’s about restoring trust, stability, and hope in a district that desperately needs all three. STORY 7: ART BEAT: Gwinnett Symphony announces 2025-26 concert schedule “Expect the Unexpected.” That’s the theme for the Gwinnett Symphony’s 2025-2026 season, and honestly? They’re not kidding. This year’s lineup is packed with everything from Copland to carols, Beethoven to the King of Pop. Classical purists, modern music lovers, and everyone in between—there’s something here for you. Kicking off Sept. 21, the “80th Anniversary World War 2 Victory Concert” at Atlanta’s Symphony Hall promises a powerhouse collaboration with the Atlanta International Symphony Orchestra. Think Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man and Bernstein’s Candide Overture. Other highlights? Handel’s Messiah in November, a Christmas concert with Sleigh Ride (kid conductors included!), and a May finale featuring Elvis, Aretha, and MJ. Details at gwinnettsymphony.org. Don’t wait—tickets will go fast. We’ll have closing comments after this. Break 4: Ingles Markets 8 Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today’s Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Send us a textWhen the Coen brothers parted ways after decades of collaboration, film fans wondered what their individual work might reveal about their creative dynamic. Drive Away Dolls, Ethan Coen's first solo directorial effort, provides a fascinating if frustrating answer to that question. This deep-dive episode explores how the absence of Joel's balancing influence results in a film where Ethan's stylistic tendencies become exaggerated to the point of self-parody. We analyze how the film's inconsistent tone, from Margaret Qualley's baffling Southern accent to the cartoon sound effects that punctuate scenes, creates a disjointed viewing experience where characters seem to exist in entirely different movies.Through our conversation, we unpack why character relationships fall flat despite talented performers, how scenes lack proper setup and payoff, and why the film's attempts at madcap comedy often miss their mark. We highlight Beanie Feldstein's standout performance as the one consistently enjoyable element in an otherwise chaotic film.Beyond mere criticism, our discussion examines the creative alchemy of successful partnerships and what happens when that balance is disrupted. We explore how the screenplay (reportedly written around 2000 and never updated) feels anachronistic in both humor and sensibilities, raising questions about creative decisions throughout production.Whether you're a Coen brothers aficionado curious about their separate trajectories or simply interested in the dynamics of creative collaboration, this episode offers thoughtful analysis on how even talented filmmakers sometimes need the right partnership to bring out their best work. The conversation serves as both a critique of Drive Away Dolls and a celebration of what made the Coen brothers' joint filmography so special.Written Lovingly by AIBe our friend!Dan: @shakybaconTony: @tonydczechAnd follow the podcast on IG: @hatewatchingDAT

Happy Holidays to you all from Hayley and BVK! On this, "A Very Special Episode" of Source Pages, Brian plays for you one of his most played Christmas albums of all-time: "Christmas In the Stars: Star Wars Christmas Album", released in 1980 by the artist Meco, who had hits with the "Star Wars Theme/ Cantina Band" dance version and also "Ewok Celebration". Anthony Daniels, who IS C-3PO narrates and sings, as well as the very first appearance by a future Rock and Roll Hall of Famer on track 5. For some reason, this album was pulled from streaming services this year, so here it is in its entirety. Það er orðin hefð í síðasta Heimsglugga fyrir jól að leika Fairytale of New York með írsku sveitinni Pogues. Við heyrðum brot af flutningi sveitarinnar við útför Shane MacGowans, söngvara Pogues, í desember í fyrra. Svo var upphafleg útgáfa lagsins leikin í heild.

Harry and Rafe start with the idea of a bleak midwinter, dart down some rabbit holes and tell some stories of old shenanigans, and end up on Christmas carols, in particular Sleigh Ride, O Holy Night, Cradle in Bethlehem, Still, Still, Still, and Joseph's Song. What a bright time, it's the right time, for Baconsale to discuss Christmas music again. It seems that every classic holiday song has been covered hundreds of times, but on this episode, Joel, Kent, and Zack have whittled that down to three popular versions of 25 iconic songs, including "Jingle Bell Rock," "Let It Snow," "O Holy Night," "Sleigh Ride," “Here Comes Santa Claus,” and "Winter Wonderland." We're going to debate each tree-o of tunes and decide which one should be the default on your smart speaker. We'll also talk in parentheses, break some triple ties, and bare some bias about Bing and Bublé.   Beware of Big Gulps making mouth sounds after you press play.   You can also find the Spotify playlist of all the Christmas cover song candidates we bring up on this episode at Baconsale.com.
