Lisa Stow will discuss the creation of a “WEvolution” through music, movement and reflection, inside and out. Larisa Stow is the lead singer and songwriter of sacred world mantra rock band Larisa Stow & Shakti Tribe, fusing Western and Eastern music with English and Sanskrit mantra to “wake, shift, shake and lift humanity”. Larisa also works as an intuitive and transformational life coach and yoga instructor to follow the magnetism of one's soul. Her mission is to share and inspire deeper contemplation around creating bridges and deeper unity within and without in this time of unprecedented polarization. https://larisastow.comMusic: Larisa Stow and Shakti Tribe "Maha Mantra"
Over the years, Larisa Stow has become a regular guest of our show. In this episode, we discuss the various ways humanity can move forward together to create the future we would all love to live in. Larisa's vision of this "WEvolution" details the numerous ways we can move forward into love, peace and community. Towards the end of the show, we are treated to a new song "Just Breathe In" from her band "The Shakti Tribe." (https://larisastow.com)
Addressing poverty, financial exclusion and the poverty premium one person at a time! Trust Leeds is growing the movement of Self-Reliant Groups to help people to save, share, make and sell together for the benefit of themselves, their families and their communities. Trust Leeds also provides micro-finance for enterprising people who have great ideas and small businesses but who don't have access to loans from family and friends of mainstream lenders. Liza is particularly inspired by the work of Glasgow-based charity Wevolution, and Pontypridd charity Purple Shoots. Following a degree in languages at the University of Leeds and roles in the media and public relations, Liza spent six years as Head of Development at Leeds Playhouse. Building on her external relations and fundraising skills, Liza was appointed as the founding Chief Executive of Emmaus Leeds. Working with her Trustees, allies and supporters across the city, she raised £3million to establish this community and social enterprise which walks alongside people who were homeless and provides a home and work in return for their skills and commitment. Having fledged this start-up enterprise in 2006, and inspired by the work of the Leeds Community Foundation, Liza moved to Cardiff to run the Community Foundation in Wales. Over ten years she led significant growth, setting up the world's only national community endowment fund, achieving million pound philanthropic gifts, and pioneering innovations including Philanthropy Week Wales and the Micro Venture Philanthropy Fund. Awarded an honorary Doctorate from Cardiff Metropolitan University for her work in promoting philanthropy, Liza is an experienced Trustee and governor and her volunteering roles have included: Trustee of Wales Council for Voluntary Action; Governor of Park Lane College Leeds; Member of Glas Cymru (Welsh Water); Director of Social Enterprise Leeds; and a panel member for two micro-finance loan funds. Liza has recently been appointed to the Boards of Emmaus Leeds and Opera North. You can find Trust Leeds at https://www.trustleeds.org.uk/ and https://twitter.com/Trust_Leeds

The Braw and The Brave is a podcast about people and their passions. N.B. Contains some strong language 'The Thingymabobs' became a feature of the podcast in 2019 and we've continued the tradition this year, with the last question I ask every guest being 'What's your favourite Scottish word or phrase?'. Here are some of the wonderful answers given and the reasons why my BrawBrave guests love the Scots patter so much. The Braw and The Brave is a podcast about people and their passions. Episode 69 (and the second in this mini series, GUID YINS) I chat with Noel, Heather and Karen of Wevolution- an organisation that was set up to nurture and support SRGs (self reliant groups) within Scotland. From crafts to events planning, home repairs to fashion, these groups are made up of people looking to help themselves and each other, creating opportunities for enterprise in their communities. In February 2020, 11 people from the U.K. set off to India to study what we call Self-Reliant Groups, an idea born in India. There they are variously called Self-help Affinity Groups -with the unfortunate acronym SHAG- or Self Help Groups, which in the U.K. suggests recovery from alcoholism. There have been other study tours like this. Noel Matthias, an Indian by birth, brought a group of women to learn from his home country nearly a decade ago. The result was WEvolution, an organisation to promote the movement in the U.K. Roughly 100 Self-Reliant Groups have emerged since. In India the number of groups cannot reliably be determined, but the count is in millions not hundreds. The purpose of the 2020 visit was to learn about scale. Our number comprised four women in Self-Reliant Groups in Scotland, two staff members from WEvolution, two funders of innovation, a government policy maker, an expert from the third sector, and me, a research scientist. Adele is part of a Self-Reliant Group in Inverclyde called 5 Mummies Make. She is reflecting here on the learning from the trip.

#LET´SGO
