We've got some unapologetic lady-power Americana!  We saw The Flying Vees open for a band down in Philly and we were hooked within half a song.  Tight harmonies, filthy guitar, and killer keys made for a set that left us wanting more. The Flying Vees are a bonafide supergroup composed of four seasoned musicians of varied backgrounds. Brechyn Chace (vocals), Shannon Vasile (vocals), Caitlin Ramsey (keys) and Hannah Taylor (guitar/vocals) joined forces in 2020 to create their unique brand of wry, gothic, harmony-heavy Americana. Lovers of punk, country, folk, and maudlin, sad-girl caterwauling will be equally at home at a The Flying Vees show.We can't wait to share their music and hear the stories behind them.  Gonna be fun!Our Listen to the Dissonance initiative hopes help break the stigma around mental health.  Going to therapy is a sign of strength, not weakness. As some of you might have noticed, there's been a bit of a break between podcast releases. I know you will understand why when I explain that I've been facing some incredibly challenging circumstances, with one of my daughters being taken seriously ill and hospitalised for several months.   At one point, I thought I'd simply shut down Choose Sunrise as life really did feel just too difficult. However, I'd just entered into a new collaboration with Andy Mee of the Alcohol Free Drinks Company and this episode's guest, Hannah Taylor, of the Sober Butterfly Collective. Between them, they persuaded me to go ahead with an event that we had planned to launch our new collaboration. “We'll do everything,” they said, “all you have to do is turn up.”   I cannot tell you how moved and inspired I have been by their kindness.   Attending the event and seeing how many people out there we can help and what a difference we can make in the world gave me a much needed boost, and I can honestly say that it's put the spring back in my step after a month of feeling overwhelmed and sad. That's why I have decided to keep going and continue with this work, albeit perhaps at a slightly more sedate pace, because I honestly believe it is my vocation.   I also believe that the guest for this episode, Hannah Taylor, has found her calling in life, too! Hannah is one of the most inspirational people I have ever met. Using her own experience of what it's like to socialising sober, she's developed a network of volunteers called the Sober Butterfly Collective that organise face to face sober meet-ups, completely free of charge, up and down the UK.   It's astonishing what this young woman has achieved without ever receiving a penny for all her hard work, because, in her own words, “Friendship is free”. I have found this so inspiring that I have decided to become her first ever sponsor, donating a minimum of £50 to the Sober Butterfly Collective for every course and every accreditation sold.   Because friendship is free.   If you'd like to know more about the work we do, head to hello@choosesunrise.co.uk   You can find out more the Sober Butterfly Collective at https://soberbutterflycollective.com/ or on Instagram

In this episode I talk to singer/dancer Hannah Taylor. Hannah started performing professionally as a child, in shows like Scrooge! The Musical and Whistle Down the Wind. But her dreams really came true last year, when still in her graduate year she landed a part in the hit West End show Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat starring Sheridan Smith and Jason Donovan.I wanted to find out how she got her big break straight out of college, what it was really like at ArtsEd and what happened in the Joseph singing and dancing auditions.Hannah talks to me about:Her life as a child performer in professional shows. How she chose the right college for her. What life was like at ArtsEd.Coping with the pressure of finishing college, doing auditions and finding your first job all at the same time!Dealing with rejection - and why everything happens for a reason. How you may just sing for 30 seconds, but doing open auditions with hundreds of others can still be a very good thing.Being nice to the audition pianist is a must-do.What happened at the Joseph singing and dancing auditions - and what doing dance partner work teaches you.How she had to learn three songs from the show in one night! The first day of Joseph rehearsals - what it was like meeting Sir Tim Rice. How as a MT performer you have to learn how to "think big" on stage. What is was like stepping onto the stage of the London Palladium for the first time. Her secret to combating nerves - the champion's pose! And why Jason Donovan threw an avocado at her!HANNAH'S CHALLENGE!Video yourself performing "Any Dream Will Do" from Joseph and send it to us.Hannah will pick a winner, who will get an online masterclass with her. Please email your video to: spotlightvideos2020@gmail.comCLOSING DATE: 31st May 2020GOOD LUCK EVERYONE - AND THANK YOU HANNAH!(Please note: recorded remotely because of lockdown restrictions, so sound quality varies!)

Startup LAWnchpad is the podcast that educates entrepreneurs about forming, growing and protecting a startup. Startup LAWnchpad is produced by the Entrepreneurial Law Clinic at Fordham University School of Law in New York City.   Episode Description: Tommine McCarthy (Fordham Law ‘20) and Shirley Ureña (Fordham Law ‘20) interview Hannah Taylor, Partner at Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz, about social media influencer agreements in which a brand enters into a contract with an influencer to create content that promotes a brand on social media. The discussion includes details about exclusivity, termination, specificity, and ownership of influencer content.   Episode Roadmap: [:30] Tommine McCarthy (Fordham Law ‘20) and Shirley Ureña (Fordham Law ‘20) define social media influencer agreements and welcome Hannah Taylor. [2:52] Understanding the advantages and disadvantages of utilizing social media influencers. [6:55] Does the liability for non-compliance lie with the brand owner or the influencer? [8:53] Understanding the level of influence and substantiation the brand is allowed to have on the influencer's opinion of a product or experience. [12:13] An overview of the scope of work and content provided by the influencer, including approval rights, visibility, and ownership. [17:25] Is it typical for a brand to ask for influencer exclusivity, and how does non-compete law factor into this? [19:15] Contests, sweepstakes and promotion law factors for influencers. [23:18] Common compensation structures for paid posts and the benefits of being a micro-influencer. [26:02] Highly negotiated terms in an influencer contract include exclusivity, termination, morals, and money. [29:20] Common mistakes brands make when entering into influencer agreements such as not including specific content and monitoring policy requirements. [32:15] Recommendations for new entrepreneurs’ monitoring programs and why specificity always wins.   Tweetables: “The FTC can go after whomever they want to go after. It’s the FTC’s job to make sure that consumers are not deceived.” — Hannah Taylor   “Some guidance from a brand about what a product does and appropriate ways to speak about the product is always a good idea.” — Hannah Taylor   “The main advertising rules from the FTC are don’t lie and don’t be unfair. Pretty simple, but the ways in which they think things are deceptive, lying, or unfair are pretty nuanced, depending on the way people communicate.” — Hannah Taylor   “It’s not only money that can constitute a material connection between a company and an influencer. It’s anything of value or anything that could bias somebody….including free products.” — Hannah Taylor   Mentioned in This Episode: Hannah Taylor   Additional Resources: Fordham’s Entrepreneurial Law Clinic Follow us on Twitter @FordhamELC   Sponsors: Nasdaq Educational Foundation Fordham’s Entrepreneurial Law Advisory Council   Disclaimer: The information contained in the Startup LAWnchpad podcast and any materials associated therewith (the “Podcast”) is for educational, informational, and entertainment purposes only. Dave Cope & the Sass put out a self-titled album in 2019 with a supergroup of Philly area musicians Dave Cope, Fred Berman, Ethan Rider, Darryl Preston Hill, Alexandra Cutler-Fetkewicz, Sarah Biemuller, and Hannah Taylor which is filled with great danceable tunes inspired by classic artists from the 60s and 70s like the Beatles, the Stones, the Kinks, Bowie, Slade and more. While their lineup has evolved a little over the last year due to the nature of being a working musician in the city and having many obligations to juggle, the current live band lineup includes Dave Cope, Fred Berman, Darryl Preston Hill, Sarah Biemuller, Andy Keenan and John Cunningham. In this interview we talk about a ton of things including Dave Cope's evolution as a singer-songwriter from a more folk-y solo style and his growth over the years into different styles and genres of music. He talks about working with veteran Philly drummer Fred Berman to develop the songs which would end up as part of Dave Cope & the Sass album tracks, and how they were handpicked and came together over months and years of work. Dave and Sarah talk about some of their influences including 90s music and culture, and some other side projects they're working on as well. PLUS, we get some surprises from Dave Cope's past! You'll have to listen to the episode to hear them all!
