“Anyone can get abused. Smart people, really intelligent people, old people, young people, beautiful people, average looking people. It doesn't matter who you are, you're not like exempt because of any characteristics that you have.”Mhairi Maclennan, Kyniska Advocacy Today's episode of The Game Changers podcast could be the most important ever. Over the past five years it's been a privilege to share the stories of 150 trailblazers in women's sport and to explore topics around equality in sport and beyond. This final episode of series 18 considers a topic that should concern everyone that loves sport – how do we keep it safe for all participants? This episode is a must listen for all parents of children in sport, along everyone working in the sports industry. My guest is Mhairi Maclennan, the co-founder of Kyniska Advocacy. Mhairi is an elite GB athlete, who, in 2021, made the extraordinarily brave decision to waive her right to anonymity after suffering sexual abuse at the hands of her coach. Following a hugely impactful campaign that saw her coach's three-year exclusion from athletics increased to a lifetime ban, Mhairi and fellow athlete Kate Seary founding Kyniska Advocacy, the UK's only athlete-led and sport-wide safe sport organisation. I learnt so much in this powerful conversation with Mhairi. I was shocked to discover that there's no obligation for sports to report coaches found guilty of sexual abuse to the police or local authorities; no central register exists to track banned coaches in the UK or globally and no independent body exists across sports to deal with the most serious cases.Mhairi also provides incredibly useful guidance about what we should all be looking out for when it comes to abuse in sport, what the law says and what still needs to change. In the episode we talk about Kyniska's excellent Manifesto for the Future of Safe Sport. Here's a link to the website where you will find it and many other useful resources: https://www.kyniskaadvocacy.com/Thank you to Sport England who support The Game Changers Podcast with a National Lottery award.Find out more about The Game Changers podcast here: https://www.fearlesswomen.co.uk/thegamechangersHosted by Sue AnstissProduced by Sam Walker, What Goes On MediaA Fearless Women production

Jeff invited Mhairi Grant, co founder of award-winning architectural practice Paper Igloo, to join us to talk about the challenges of ensuring that one's ideas for sustainable design actually make their way through to the construction phase. The subject was sparked by a conversation she and Jeff had about lessons learned from a flawed project (that we discuss) and what it takes to ensure that our best, or even just easiest ideas are delivered upon in the build phase. Usually, we'd think about specifying a project in a way that can resist value engineering, but sometimes the project can be scuppered by something as simple as an easily avoidable a comprehension issue.Notes from the showMhairi Grant on LinkedInA link to Scotland's Passivhaus Consultation: Building Regulations: Determining the principles for a Scottish equivalent to the Passivhaus standard: Stage 1 consultationThe Paper Igloo websitePaper Igloo on InstagramThe Passive House Plus feature on Mhairi's own home in Stirlingshire **SOME SELF-PROMOTING CALLS TO ACTION**We don't actually earn anything from this, and it's quite a lot of work, so we have to promote the day jobs.Follow us on the Zero Ambitions LinkedIn page (we still don't have a proper website)Jeff, Alex, and Dan about websites, branding, and communications - zap@eiux.agency; Everything is User ExperienceSubscribe and advertise with Passive House Plus (UK edition here too)Check Lloyd's Substack: Carbon UpfrontJoin ACANJoin the AECB Join the IGBCCheck out Her Own Space, the renovation and retrofit platform for women**END OF SELF-PROMOTING CALLS TO ACTION**

Hey Techno Tribe, I hope you enjoy my special four-hour journey through the Best of Techno 2023. As we revel in this yearly ritual, I want to share some insights about the incredible artists who've graced this mix. This year's lineup is a vibrant tapestry of techno talent. We start with Rebuke's 'Glow,' a track that perfectly sets the tone with its energetic beats. Following up, Zimmz's 'Qualia' and Danny Avila's 'Chase The Sun' add unique layers of intensity and rhythm. ANDATA's 'Concentrate' and the collaboration between Adam Beyer and Green Velvet on 'Simulator' showcase the depth and diversity of techno. The remix of Planetary Assault Systems by Adam Beyer & Wehbba, and Beyer's solo 'Legend' offer a glimpse into the evolving nature of techno. Layton Giordani's 'Phantom' and the collaboration of Heerhorst, Teenage Mutants, and Peter Pahn on 'Dark Clouds' reflect the dynamic range of the genre. We also dive into Victor Ruiz, Mha Iri, Mark Porter, and Lilly Palmer, each bringing their unique essence to the mix. UMEK, Maddix, and Charlotte de Witte's tracks are a nod to the powerful influence of these artists in the techno scene. As for my contributions, including two tracks that charted in the top 10 this year, it is a thrill. Being a part of this vibrant community and contributing to the sound that defines us is an honor. The mix also features the likes of Thomas Schumacher, Ramon Tapia, Belocca, Marie Vaunt, and Eli Brown, each artist adding their unique flavor to this diverse collection. The energy continues with tracks from artists like Space 92, Bart Skils, Raxon, Drunken Kong, and Green Velvet. We journey through the imaginative remixes of Royksopp and the original vibes of Wehbba, UMEK, SAM WOLFE, Pleasurekraft, Joyhauser, and many more. The mix slows down with &ME's 'L.I.F.E,' a track that sums it up.I hope this mix connects you deeper with the artists behind these tracks. Their stories, just like ours, are woven into the very fabric of the beats we love. Thanks for joining me on this auditory adventure. Let's keep this energy alive and continue to share our love for techno and the lifestyle it represents.Enjoy!Sebastiaan Hooft
We have finally moved on to Awakening. Whether you're importing a surviving Hero of Ferelden or starting fresh with a new warden, we enter the scene as the Warden Commander for Amaranthine, holdings granted to the Wardens as a result of their role in ending the Blight in Denerim. As always, the first day of the job goes to hell as we discover a sneak attack launched on the keep by darkspawn. They're organized, they're determined…and one of them can talk. With the help of Mhairi, we fight our way through the village to the keep where we rescue civilians, recruit a new mage and a familiar face, and face off with the mysterious talking darkspawn. Success leads to new grey wardens, but unfortunately, not everyone makes it through the joining. Special thanks to Redd Spinks for our new amazing logo as well as to Radek Wade and Echoes of Oblivion for the song World of Thedas, which we use as our theme music. Mhairi Black took British politics by storm with her election and maiden speech in 2015. 8 years on and she's now Deputy Leader of the SNP in Westminster... but not for much longer. A few weeks ago Mhairi announced that she won't be standing at the next election. Why has such an impassioned politician, especially one who's now in a leadership role, deciding to stand down at just age 28? This is the story of a tumultuous period in our politics, where rapid change has become the norm. Scottish politics is arguably even more volatile, so what is the future of the country, the SNP and the independence movement? This is a riveting, urgent listen... especially if you love video games. The health of female athletes is often overlooked or underrepresented in sporting organizations across the world. This is one of the reasons why Mhairi Maclennon and Kate Sealy founded Kyniska Advocacy – to educate, advocate, and provide support for female athletes. In cooperation with Project RED-S, they recently released the Female Athletes Health Report, which will form the basis of many recommendations in women's sports. Key Takeaways Recommendations from the Female Athlete Health Report Mandatory female health training within all sports organizations A toolkit for athletes to have information early Support network about RED-S and female athlete health Equipping medical professionals with the information they need about RED-S About Kyniska Advocacy Kyniska Advocacy advocates for progressive policies in women's sports, enacting change one campaign at a time. They want to instill an equitable sporting culture from grassroots clubs to the Olympic games and everything in between. Their vision is to create a sporting community that fosters a safe environment and has the protection of women at its heart. To develop sport, where decisions are made with women in mind, by people who understand us, and where women have a seat at the table. And to build a world where men's sport isn't the default standard for women's sport. Kyniska Advocacy is fighting for equity in sports, and sports tailored to different needs. They work through three principal pillars; educate, advocate, and support. They educate via webinars, resources, and campaigns. They advocate by working with parliamentarians and sports governing bodies to shape policies and procedures to better protect, respect and celebrate women and girls in sports. And they support through our athlete support service, our athlete blog & using our platform to give women in sports a voice. Policy Change for Female Athletes Kyniska Advocacy Co-Founders Mhairi Maclennan and Kate Seary join the conversation today to talk about their initiative and why they co-sponsored the Female Athlete Health Report with Project RED-S. They build their foundation because of the lack of responsibility within UK sports organizations for the abuse and overall health of female athletes. Mhairi and Kate share some of the challenges they've experienced around any policy change for women's sports. While they experience resistance across the board, more and more athletes find their voices powerful and can enact change. The Female Athlete Health Report Understanding female athlete health is pivotal to the work of Kyniska Advocacy. They partnered with Project RED-S for the Female Athlete Health Report, where 800 female athletes filled out the survey. They focused on details such as RED-S, eating habits, and how female athletes view themselves and their bodies. One common theme across the board is how a female athlete's body image can drastically impact their performance. The other big issue is RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport), which impacts the menstrual cycle. Do you feel supported as a female athlete? What are your support systems? Share your thoughts and experiences with me in the comments on the episode page. In This Episode What inspired the creation of Kyniska Advocacy [5:00] Some of the UK sporting challenges affecting policy change [8:15] How the procedures and policies differ from sport to sport [15:15] Why Kyniska Advocacy partnered on the Female Athlete Health Report [22:00] How your body image can impact your athletic performance [25:00] The different challenges elite athletes face [32:30] The correlation between the menstrual cycle and RED-S [39:00] What is next for Kyniska Advocacy [48:30] Quotes “It's across the board. I think everyone responds in the same way to abuse in sport: they think it's terrible. But it's actually getting to the root cause of abuse that people start [to hesitate]. The issue we come across with coaches is a lack of support from their governing bodies, so they're not informed of safeguarding and welfare, so when they are, they become defensive.” [11:07] “We want an independent body that the big cases get sent to so that we know that there is consistency across all sports. It's independent, so it's more transparent and trustworthy.” [16:53] “I think because there are these different moving parts and because sport has been independently operated, there has been a reluctance from the government to step in, but I think that in order for us to make real change, and for sports to have one unifying structure, it is necessary.” [20:42] “Because sport is so performance-focused and success-driven, we don't prioritize thinking holistically about eating and body image, and they fall by the wayside. We think our bodies are machines because that's what we're told.” [26:16] “We have this belief that there's an athlete in every body. If you move you're body, you're an athlete.” [32:31] Featured on the Show Apply for Strength Nutrition Unlocked Here Kyniska Advocacy Follow Kyniska Advocacy on LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram Full Show Notes Follow Steph on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube | Pinterest I'd really love it if you would take 1 min and leave us a rating and review on iTunes! Ellis Mhairi Cameron sits with A thousand facets and talk about her Scottish upbringing, her name and how the terrain in Scotland has influenced the colors and textures of her jewelry. From Ellis: All of my jewellery stems from an interest in how our identities are influenced by our specific locations and how this forms social heritage. Throughout history, regardless of country or continent, ancient cultures have adorned their bodies. A focus of my research is exploring the reasoning behind why we wear jewellery and the symbolism and sentiment that a piece of jewellery can hold. Since inception, I have focused on creating sculptural gold jewellery. I use traditional techniques and hand skills, such as hand carving and casting, to give my pieces their signature erosive aesthetic. To ensure accountability, every piece is created in my London studio, from recycled gold and traceable diamonds. Entirely made by hand, my work carries small intricacies as uniquely rich as the land which inspires it.
