I first encountered Brad's work on Kentucker Audley's fantastic NoBudge site, with his short film WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM. It caught my eye not only because of the emotional honesty and style of the film, but also noticing street signs of a nearby Illinois suburb, not far from where I grew up.I reached out to Brad back then, and he remains as thoughtful and generous with his time back then as he is now. He has progressed through making many more outstanding shorts and commercial work, as well as his debut feature, GRASSHOPPERS, which was released in 2021.In this episode, Brad and I discuss his beginnings as a filmmaker in the suburbs of Chicago, diving into each short which can be found on his Vimeo page. From mixing elements of his real life into his art, to developing his style, we break down the inspirations, intentions, and lessons learned at the start of a very promising filmmaking career.

Have yourself a very Spidey Christmas with everyone's friendly neighborhood webhead and his very first cinematic outing from Sam Raimi and company in 2002. But before we dig into the biggest present under the tree, we sort through the Blue Plate Special-themed stocking stuffers, ranging from discussions on the forgotten gem Where the Buffalo Roam and contemporary classic The Matrix, inspired in part by the latter film's recent sequel/reboot The Matrix Resurrections. We finally tear through the Tobey Maguire-adorned wrapping paper to parse the myriad ways in which the character of Peter Parker and his various iterations remains among the greatest creations of comic book storytelling, mull how superhero films have evolved (or arguably devolved) over the past two decades-plus, and in general take multiple trips down memory lane to gloriously relive a childhood favorite. 'Tis the season, right? Feel free to skip to 2:43:21 for the beginning of our audio commentary. Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones they made in between. Today we analyze the lesser-known films of a legend: Mr. Bill Murray. From his early SNL days to his latter days as Coolest Guy Not Invited To Your Wedding But There Anyway, myself, Conor O'Donnell, and esteemed guest Evan Cutler Wattles question what works and does not work within the whole Bill Murray legend. Our B-Sides include: Where The Buffalo Roam, The Razor's Edge, Quick Change, and Mad Dog and Glory. Evan explains why he grew up more a fan of Steve Martin than Murray and we debate the pros and cons of Hunter S. Thompson and the Gonzo style. Also, how exactly did Chevy Chase's legacy go so far in the opposite direction of Murray's? There's also the committed promotion Bill Murray did for The Razor's Edge (a remake and one of his only screenwriting credits) that got overshadowed by the success of Ghostbusters, the staleness of Art Linson's Where The Buffalo Roam (and a wasted Neil Young score!), the beautifully stressful New York City setting of Quick Change, and some refreshingly honest quotes from the man himself. We also shout-out some creative work available elsewhere. There's Myth, from our old pal Brian DiLorenzo and Hell House LLC, from our new pal producer Joseph Bandelli. And finally, there's Fathom, a new series of short stories from myself! Give it a listen. Be sure to give us a follow on Twitter and Facebook at @TFSBSide. Also enter our giveaways, get access to our private Slack channel, and support new episodes by becoming a Patreon contributor. We are also now on Spotify and Stitcher. Enjoy!

Following HEAT producer Art Linson, Andrew and Dave take a trip through bat country and end up watching WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM. The film is ostensibly a comedic biopic based on the writings of Hunter S. Thompson, though Andrew and Dave (particularly Andrew) have some words to say about that. Next time: a return to 1995!
