Welcome back to The Movie Draft House! We're cruising along in May 2026 with our "Days of Futures Past" theme where each movie we watch has to have taken place in a year that has already passed. This week we watch the highly topical 2005 film "V for Vendetta" starring Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman. Tune in to find out what we thought of this one...Follow the podcast across all social media!Twitter Instagram TikTokYouTube
Chris Paul and Burning Bright tackle the much-maligned middle child of the Matrix trilogy, the 2003 Wachowski sequel starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Hugo Weaving. Burning Bright admits he used to dismiss this one entirely, but a fresh rewatch reveals a film that is not dumb at all, just trying to wrestle with much harder ideas than the original. The guys dig into the philosophical bedrock the film sits on, including Baudrillard's Simulacra and Simulation and what it means to live in a hyperreality where signs replace the thing itself. They unpack why Zion is presented as such a hedonistic, animalistic place, and whether the Wachowskis really intended it to be the paradise worth saving. From there, they work through the Architect scene as a meditation on how systems build their own opposition into themselves, the Oracle as a mirror for the Q drops, the Merovingian as a possible fallen prior One and a Lucifer figure in the underworld of the matrix, and Neo's final choice to save Trinity as the only morally coherent rejection of the system.
“HE WAS ALL OF US.“Hello everyone! We are back to talk about another film that may have aged a little better than we hoped, and we might all be worse off for that. We are talking about 2005's V For Vendetta, directed by James McTeague, starring Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving, written by one of the podcast's favorite sibling duos, the Wachowski sisters! On this episode we talk about just how relevant the film feels, especially while living in America. In the world of V, we are living in a fascist, police state, ravaged by a viral outbreak, with state sponsored media spreading fear and propaganda, an authoritarian government seizing personal freedoms while the oligarch class is protected and reaping all the benefits of their crimes against humanity. An all too familiar world for anyone not living under a rock. Even though the original Alan Moore graphic novel was written in response to Margaret Thatcher's Britain in the 1980's, and the Wachowski's screenplay was written perhaps in response to the 2nd (or rather, 3rd) Bush Administration, perhaps the heart of the story is what it takes to survive these oppressive regimes.Speaking of Alan Moore, we talk about why the acclaimed graphic novel writer distanced himself from the film. When the frequent Wachowski collaborator and producer Alan Silver claimed Moore gave the film his blessing, which he did not, Moore asked for his name to be removed from the credits. Even still, Moore rejected the script itself and when we examine the differences between the film and source material we can see why. Both the graphic novel and film can be seen as separate, complimentary stories, but are so vastly difference that we can't really say it's a “good adaptation,” despite being fond of both. Listen to the full episode for more on this!We also talk about what the Wachowskis bring to the film. It wasn't directed by them, but by their assistant director from the Matrix Trilogy, James McTeague. Still, we can still feel their influence in what segments get special attention, the montages, and how we experience time and how everything is connected.Putting this film together, with who was involved, who was cast, when it was filmed, where it was filmed.. there are so many connections and references that we don't even get into all of it. Despite being a little sillier in some places, more digestible than something as heavy and poignant as Andor (which Austin HIGHLY recommends,) the film delivers some moments that may never be forgot. You can listen to this episode ANYWHERE you get your podcasts! You don't have to go to Spotify or Apple! If you don't see our show on your podcast preference of choice, just DM us on our socials and we will get right on it!
We're on to part 3: The Matrix Revolutions! If you were hoping for answers to some of the questions left over from the previous installments, you may be disappointed. But, if you're looking for a film that contradicts and undermines the previous works plus an episode where we slowly go mad trying to keep the rules straight, we have just the thing for you! I Love This You Should Too is hosted by Samantha and Indy Randhawa The Matrix Revolutions is a 2003 American science fiction action film written and directed by the Wachowskis. It is the third film in The Matrix film series, shot back-to-back with The Matrix Reloaded (2003). It stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving and Jada Pinkett Smith. The film follows Neo and his allies as they fight to end the war between humanity and the machines permanently while opposing the rogue Agent Smith.
Welcome to PTBN Pop's Movie Review of The Day! Every weekday we will be reviewing a movie whether it be currently in theaters, featured on streaming or just a film that we hold near and dear to us. With the release of “Michael” last week, this week we're focusing on other Bio Pics . On today's episode, Steve Riddle is reviewing “Hacksaw Ridge” from 2016 starring Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey, Hugo Weaving & Rachel Griffiths.
We continue our Matrix journey with The Matrix Reloaded. Will it live up to the hype of the classic first movie? Will we find out what The Matrix really is? Is Neo the One? What happened to all the Indian people? Can robots be smug and jealous? All these questions and more will be answered in this episode! Probably. I Love This You Should Too is hosted by Samantha and Indy Randhawa The Matrix Reloaded is a 2003 American science fiction action film written and directed by the Wachowskis. It is the sequel to The Matrix (1999) and the second installment in the Matrix film series. The film stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, and Gloria Foster who reprise their roles from the previous film, with Jada Pinkett Smith joining the cast. In the film, Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity attempt to reach the Source of the Matrix to end the war as Zion prepares for an invasion from the machines.
We've decided to follow the white rabbit and delve into the world of The Matrix! We kick it off this week with the first installment from 1999 and discuss shiny clothes, if we exist, office jobs, 1999 in cinema, bullet time, Keanu Reeves, saviours, philosophy, and more! I Love This You Should Too is hosted by Samantha and Indy Randhawa The Matrix is a 1999 science fiction action film written and directed by the Wachowskis. The first installment in the Matrix film series, it stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, and Joe Pantoliano. It depicts a dystopian future in which humanity is unknowingly trapped inside the Matrix, a simulated reality created by intelligent machines. The plot follows the computer hacker Neo, who is recruited by Morpheus into a rebellion against the machines.
Shauna and Olivia want to share their favorite movies with each other, and you! Up first is Shauna's favorite movie, V for Vendetta. Released in 2006, V for Vendetta was based on the DC/Vertigo comic series by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. Directed by James McTeigue and written by the Wachowskis, V for Vendetta stars Hugo Weaving as the masked V, Natalie Portman as Evey, and a veritable who's who of British actors (mostly male) including John Hurt, Rupert Graves, Stephen Fry and Stephen Rea. The Junkies discuss the plot (spoilers abound, so be sure you've seen it before listening), the characters, the romance, the themes, and the stunning parallels between a movie released 20 years ago and today's political landscape. Shane Carruth and his buddy build a time machine for $7,000 in a time when such things were possible. Joe & Adam reflect on Primer, a great or unnecessarily complicated film depending on who you ask. Primer was a darling of Independent cinema in 2004, and holds a place in the hearts of many hard sci-fi fans. This episode includes a discussion about time travel, and a series of impersonations of Hugo Weaving as the Agent from The Matrix.
Paul Kelly is a bona fide legend. The singer and songwriter from Australia who has been writing and performing songs that dive deep into the human condition as well as anyone for over for decades. His song "How To Make Gravy" is so iconic it has spawned an unoffical holidy in Australia, Gravy Day, and a feature film starring Hugo Weaving. Kelly has written a memoir, racked up shelves worth of Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) awards, and is likely among your favorite songwriter's favorite songwriters. His latest album Seventy is a masterful collection of songs which includes "Rita Wrote a Letter," which is the sequel to 1992's "How To Make Gravy." Y'all, I have worn out this CD in my car and it is an enormous honor to bring you my conversation with Paul Kelly.

Municipalities, start your engines!! Or… get ready to eat each other? We're finishing off our Rings series today with the final (?) major live action narrative production from Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, and the whole WETA gang. It may not be Tolkien-related, but hey, Hugo Weaving wields a blade in it! It's tragic that the film didn't start a new era for Jackson, and we're sorting through its disastrous box office fallout this week along with some predictions for what the future has in store for WETA. Next week, we close the book on Tolkien once and for all with our series finale (including some thoughts on WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM) and an announcement for what comes next! "I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to hear such podcasts. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is whether to twist and ka-chunk the cruciform keys given to us." That's right baby, we're back! In an episode they're calling "severely delayed by illness, auditions and the Olympics" we're opening up the doors to the vault and inducting Peter Jackson's 2001 classic The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring into the podcast canon, fresh on the heels of its 25th anniversary theatrical re-release. Fellowship was directed by Peter Jackson, written by Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens (off the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien) and stars Elijah Wood, Ian McKellan, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Sean Bean, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, John Rhys-Davies, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Liv Tyler, and Andy Serkis. It's a movie that J Mo has now seen seven times in theaters, and one Hayley recently got engaged while in the middle of watching, so suffice to say this is a very special movie for both of us. We talk all about that and more, so get into it! No clue when we'll be back, but thanks for sticking with us, we love you.

In this episode, we break down V for Vendetta — a political thriller that feels more relevant today than ever before. We explore the film's themes of control, freedom, rebellion, and identity, and analyze how it uses symbolism to comment on government, fear, and power. We also dive into Hugo Weaving's incredible performance as V, Natalie Portman's transformation, and how the film's message has evolved in modern culture. Our threat levels were critical, but they've been neutralized, because we're just that good and you know it. And we're never leaving Slough House. Hey, just like River!Chris is back this week with Bankole and Angel for the rollercoaster finale of 'Slow Horses' Season 5 on Apple TV, and together the squad tries to figure out what this new resolution might mean for the show going forward, while celebrating Diana's takeover finally landing. After Chris gives his debrief on the London Film Festival, they start by marveling at the truth behind Lamb's story from episode 3 (11:34), before quickly addressing both the competence and significance of the dissidents' plan for retribution (16:04). They also call River out for projecting and applaud for Claude for managing to somehow fail upwards into survival, which is as hilarious as it is surprising.Additionally, they dive into a discussion on whether the show wants us to believe River is competent (32:13) and why Claude never stood a chance against Lamb (37:12), as well as how the book handled the events of the episode — and season — a bit differently (47:18), after which they share some fun recommendations and their expectations for the already high-octane sixth season of the show (50:30).You can support us here.Subscribe to our Newsletter. Also available on YouTube.Chris' London Film Festival Highlights!Chris' take on 'The Secret Agent'.Chris full 'Sentimental Value' review.Chris on the new 'Knives Out': 'Wake Up Dead Man'.Host: Bankole ImoukhuedeGuests: Chris and AngelProduction by: Ebube Ubochi
Ebube subs in for Chris this week, but our squad doesn't miss a beat as they engage in one of the all-time great debriefs. Bankole, Angel and Ebube are under intense interrogation this week about the events of the penultimate episode of 'Slow Horses' Season 5. First, they respond to some recent comments from our YouTube listeners (6:24) before heading - with their eyes closed - to the Piss Underpass (19:55). They then wrap up by heading to The Park and scrutinising Claude's saviour complex and deciding just who to trust (28:30).You can support us here.Subscribe to our Newsletter. Also available on YouTube.Host: Bankole ImoukhuedeGuests: Ebube and AngelProduction by: Bankole Imoukhuede
The squad dives into the wild events of the mayoral rallies on this week's ‘Slow Horses'. Before that though, they herald the upcoming arrival of the next Apple TV+ show based on books by Mick Herron — ‘Down Cemetery Road' — set to premiere once Slow Horses concludes its current season. Now halfway through the season, the chaos is like a train wreck — we can't stop watching. River and Coe have taken the description of "Loser-Misfit-Boozer" to entirely new heights this time, while Flyte rapidly skyrockets up our likability rankings.Bankole, Angel and Chris also can't help but praise Claude's unexpected competence in wielding his influence (7:20), and we'll just have to see how long that lasts. You can support us here.Subscribe to our Newsletter. Also available on YouTube.Host: Bankole ImoukhuedeGuests: Chris and AngelProduction by: Ebube Ubochi
Wait a second... Is Lamb... Worried?!Bankole, Chris and Angel are on the edge of their seats this week, watching Jackson Lamb potentially on the back foot for what might just be the first ever in what is probably Bankole's favorite episode of 'Slow Horses' till date. The guys start by dutifully listening to Angel explain why everyone should watch HBO's 'The Pitt' — she's very convincing — and then go on to discuss the duality of enjoying seeing the agents working together in one place while wishing they weren't doing it in captivity. The team also tries to discern just how much truth might be present in Lamb's tall tale, and if he could even be talking about himself, as well as how it's possible for Roddy to be as delusional and irresponsible as he is. They of course also hand out this week's Louisa Awards for competence and decide who this week's slowest horse is.You can support us here.Subscribe to our Newsletter. Also available on YouTubeHost: Bankole ImoukhuedeGuests: Chris and AngelProduction by: Ebube Ubochi
Does anyone do any work around here? Well, of course not — this is Slough House. And somehow Roddy's delusion has only grown since last week.Bankole returns with Chris and Angel for the second episode of 'Slow Horses' season 5 on Apple TV+, and miraculously they might be on the same wavelength with Lamb for once: they can't decide which character is the least competent. They start by providing some much needed recommendations for the current — and upcoming — season of TV (what a time to be alive). Then they get into this week's action and give props to Shirley for being the only agent who's actually awake in this episode (7:10). They also put out a notice that Claude's days are numbered, and take some educated guesses on what the assailants' true motives might be. Is it all connected?...You can support us here.Subscribe to our Newsletter. Also available on YouTube.Host: Bankole ImoukhuedeGuests: Chris and AngelProduction by: Ebube Ubochi
A fifth season?! We are SO back. Back in the trenches of course. Bankole is joined by Chris and Angel for the season five premiere of 'Slow Horses' on Apple TV+, and they're frankly still reeling from the events of the season four finale. They discuss the current state of affairs for each character in an attempt to figure out who's doing the worst, weigh Louisa's big decision, and grieve River not knowing what to do with himself, before making an official proclamation of Lamb's greatest insults. And while they're at it, they try to uncover who may be after Roddy. You can support us here.Subscribe to our Newsletter. Also available on YouTubeHost: Bankole ImoukhuedeGuests: Chris and AngelProduction by: Ebube Ubochi
In 2010 Universal took another step towards rebooting the Dark Universe with a straight shot at a remake of the 1941 classic The Wolf Man starring Lon Chaney Jr. This time starring Benecio del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt and Hugo Weaving and with the late addition direction of Joe Johnston it does manage to capture some of the magic of a classic monster movie. But also it's not that good even though Mason liked it. On this episode of Paid in Puke, we're having a gay old time in the Australian outback with Stephan Elliott's 1994 debut feature, "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert", starring Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, and Terence Stamp. It tells the story of two drag queens and one trans woman who bring their cabaret act across the country to places both receptive and dangerous. The movie has some Hot Probs (including an inexcusable Asian stereotype character), but it also served as a pioneering film queer cinema, despite the cis maleness of the three lead actors. We're joined by special guest Lynn Harris: writer, producer, standup comedian and founder and CEO of Gold Comedy. We discuss the origin of pride parades, the proverbial desert that is trans representation, how far drag has come since the 90s, and some of our favorite modern queens.

This Pride Month, Mark Radulich and Sean Comer celebrate the flamboyant, fearless, and fiercely important legacies of three trailblazing films: The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994), To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (1995), and Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001). While each tells its own unique story—from a desert drag road trip across the Australian outback to a heartfelt exploration of gender identity through glam rock cabaret—they are all interconnected by the historical arc of queer visibility in cinema. These films didn't just showcase LGBTQ+ characters—they centered them, in eras where that was still an act of rebellion.Priscilla broke ground internationally, putting Australian queer cinema on the global map and normalizing drag culture long before RuPaul's Drag Race made it mainstream. Just one year later, To Wong Foo introduced Middle America to drag queens with heart, humor, and dignity—starring mainstream Hollywood actors like Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, and John Leguizamo at the height of their careers. Then came Hedwig, a deeply personal indie musical about gender, trauma, and artistic expression, which has since become a cult favorite and a cornerstone of trans representation in modern film and theater. Together, these films reflect the evolution of queer and trans narratives—from coded subtext to full-throated declarations of identity and humanity.More than just products of their time, these movies pushed culture forward. They asked audiences to look beyond binary norms and embrace love, transformation, and self-expression in all forms. Whether through sequins, ballads, or beat-up buses, these stories assert—loudly and proudly—that queer people, drag performers, and trans individuals deserve joy, complexity, and a place in the cinematic canon. And as we revisit them in 2025, their messages feel just as urgent, defiant, and beautiful as ever.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Send us a textMYSTERY ROAD It's the end of the road for Season 14 as TGTPTU's four White fellas travel across the world to the land down under for host Ken's 1x1 flick pick and this season's final film: MYSTERY ROAD (2013), sponsored this week by the Criminal Island's very own Hoppy Joe Beer (Get Your Hop On!). Directed by (and written by and lensed by and edited by and music with sound design by) Ivan Sen, this Aussie neo noir film that will launch a sequel and multiple standalone seasons of a TV season is the Australian filmmaker's first genre film. Sen's work is made with considerations to the conditions of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (a.k.a. First Peoples, a.k.a. First Nations, a.k.a. Indigenous Australians), and when news of his making a crime fiction film spread, an all-star cast of Oz acting talent lined up to join, beginning with Australian Broadcasting Corporation mainstay Aaron Pedersen, for whom Sen wrote the part of the film's protagonist Detective Jay Swan, with second cast Hugo Weaving whose star power from the past two decades of Hollywood IP films subsequent to serving the Matrix franchise as Agent Smith helped draw in Ryan Kwanten, Bruce Spence, and an early appearance by Samara Weaving, a pod fav who made an appearance in an early TGTPTU Halloween episode. Plot: A local First Nations girl is found murdered, and Detective Swan freshly back in his hometown from time away catches his first homicide case and must reckon with his family left behind as investigating the homicide brings him into the town's underworld of drugs and prostitution, a world not unknown to his estranged wife and daughter. Pedersen's character also encounters alcoholics (it's Australia after all) drinking themselves to death; a mysterious death of a rookie officer and, separately, a senile man's pet; aspiring cop-killer children on bicycles; mutant dogs; fast barefoot humans; overt and covert racism; Chinese food; and two crack shots in H. Weaving's and Kwanten's characters. This week Ken and Jack recover from a week-long cold; Thomas brings his comedic A (short for "Australia") game; and Ryan offers background on the growth of media by First Nations peoples in Australia and later demos next season's theme song--all on this special, concluding, evening-record episode of TGTPTU. “Is that a fact?”THEME SONG BY: WEIRD A.I.Email: thegoodthepodandtheugly@gmail.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/TGTPTUInstagram: https://instagram.com/thegoodthepodandtheugly?igshid=um92md09kjg0Bluesky: @goodpodugly.bsky.socialYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6mI2plrgJu-TB95bbJCW-gBuzzsprout: https://thegoodthepodandtheugly.buzzsprout.com/Letterboxd (follow us!): Podcast: goodpoduglyKen: Ken KoralRyan: Ryan Tobias
Imagine John Wick. Only instead of losing his puppy, he's lost his entire family because the British let them freeze to death. And imagine now that they're all in Ireland and it's the middle of the Famine. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Black '47. Joining us to talk about this film and the misconceptions around the Irish Potato Famine is Padraic Scanlan, author of the new book Rot: An Imperial History of the Irish Famine. This movie is bonkers and actually has a lot to say on Irish history. And this conversation won't leave you hungry. About our guest:Padraic Scanlan is an Associate Professor at the Centre for Industrial Relations and Human Resources, cross-appointed to the Centre for Diaspora & Transnational Studies. He is also a Research Associate at the Center for History and Economics at Harvard University and the University of Cambridge, and a Fellow of St. Michael's College. His research focuses on the history of labour, enslaved and free, in Britain and the British empire during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. He is currently in the early stages of research on a new project, on the transformation of the line between ‘home' and ‘work' in the industrial era. His most recent book, Rot: An Imperial History of the Irish Famine, out now from Robinson Books and Basic Books, reinterprets the history of the Irish Great Famine (1845-1851). In the first half of the nineteenth century, nowhere in Europe – or the world – did the working poor depend as completely on potatoes as in Ireland. To many British observers, potatoes were evidence of a lack of modernity and ‘civilization' among the Irish. Ireland before the Famine, however, more closely resembled capitalism's future than its past. Irish labourers were paid some of the lowest wages in the British empire, and relied on the abundance of the potato to survive.
