Jim and John engage in a lively chat about morning sounds, pesky doves, and the heroic work of nurses. They reminisce about the evolution of radio studios, Bob Seger's timeless tunes, and who might own today's music scene. (We agree that it's probably Taylor Swift.) The guys put out a Quick Poll on what categories they might actually win first place in at next year's Wisconsin Broadcasters Association awards. Local radio is alive and well in Monona. The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association named 98.7 FM WVMO — the “Voice of Monona” — the Best Radio Station in state in 2022. Not bad for a teeny 100-watt station with an antenna on the fire department's hose-drying tower. WVMO is owned by the city of Monona, run primarily by volunteers, and airs local programs. You can hear a variety of Americana music, updates on city events, and even a quick hello from the Walsh family on Sullivan Street.  We speak with founder — and Wisconsin Broadcast Hall of Famer — Lindsay Wood Davis who says, “WVMO serves the community without boring it.” And we talk to one of the station's youngest volunteers, Beatrix Pauli, host of Bea's Buzz.  Wanna talk to us about an episode? Bob Barry's Unearthed Interviews

The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association is proud to present a very special "Bob Barry's Unearthed Interviews - podcast #200".                        #200!!!                                                     The WBA wondered how this came about. Bob says "It was suggested we do something special for the 200th podcast, so we are flashing “way back” to 1972, to me and my morning show on WOKY. As far as we know, this is the first time anyone has heard my morning radio show in 51 years. Can you believe it?  That goes for my newsman David Haines and his colorful high-energy delivery too."                         Bob's morning show on WOKY was usually #1 in the ratings.  This meant Bob could spend company money on long distance phone calls. And he did. In 1972, long distance calls cost dollars per minute. The Milwaukee Journal reported monthly phone bills at WOKY were over $1000. Adjusted for inflation, that's $7300 a month!  Bob spent WOKY's money wisely, making his show so popular he was voted #1 DJ in the USA in 1975 by Billboard magazine, beating out DJ's from New York and LA.                                            Bob says "That was quite an honor and thank you to everyone who listened to me back in the day."                                 Several people helped put this "200th special" together.  Thank you's to WOKY alum Jack Lee who brought back Milwaukee's very own “Lady of Charm”, to radio vet and voice talent Bill Shannon for playing the role of "Mr. Announcer", and to marketing guru Kipper McGee for handling promotion. Continuing thanks to Kyle Geissler, Vice President of the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association for coordinating and getting these podcasts to you on Youtube, Spotify, Apple, etc. And special thanks to Mark David (MD) Heleniak of MixMasterMD.com for restoring the 1972 WOKY aircheck, and for producing, writing, and engineering the 200th special podcast.                                          If you enjoy this special, let us know.  email:  bbarryunearthed@gmail.com   We'll do more in the future.                                           And thanks for listening!

In this episode, we had the awesome privilege of articulating with Dr. Eddie Moore Jr. We really needed his voice in response to the recent backlash to the anti-racist curriculum many of our independent schools are instituting in alignment with their mission statements and DEIB commitments. What we value about Dr. Moore's voice is that he gives the facts straight and no chaser. However, his passion for Black students and their excellence is palpable. You will hear us discuss curriculum, teaching, and our student's wellbeing through an anti-racist lens. We also discuss what anti-racism is and is not. We tried to keep in under 45 minutes, ya'll, but we needed the next ten or so minutes to find joy! This episode was recorded before the mass shooting in Los Angeles. We dedicate this episode and stand in solidarity with our AAPI brothers and sisters too! Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr. has pursued and achieved success in academia, business, diversity, leadership, and community service. In 1996, he started America & MOORE, LLC to provide comprehensive diversity, privilege, and leadership training/workshops. Dr. Moore is recognized as one of the nation's top speakers and educators. His interview with Wisconsin Public Radio won the 2015 Wisconsin Broadcasters Association's Best Interview in Medium Market Radio, 1st Place, and he is featured in the film “I'm not Racist….Am I?” Dr. Moore is the Founder/Program Director for the White Privilege Conference (WPC). In 2014 Dr. Moore founded The Privilege Institute (TPI) which engages people in research, education, action and leadership through workshops, conferences, publications and strategic partnerships and relationships. He is co-founder of the on-line journal Understanding and Dismantling Privilege, co-editor of Everyday White People Confront Racial and Social Injustice: 15 Stories, The Guide for White Women who Teach Black Boys,The Diversity Consultant Cookbook: Preparing for the Challenge (2019), Teaching Beautiful Brilliant Black Girls (forthcoming, 2021) and Lil' e - The Big Misunderstanding (2020). For 10-years, he served as Dir of Diversity at Brooklyn Friends School (Brooklyn, NY) and The Bush School (Seattle, WA). Dr. Moore received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in Education Leadership. His Ph.D. research is on Black Football Players at Division III Schools in the Midwest.
