Members of the abolition working group discuss two important jail reform initiatives DSA is pushing at the county level. One would provide free in-person visitation for inmates and their families. The second would break up Aramark's monopoly on the jail cafeteria and commissary. Learn more and get involved: https://linktr.ee/creamcitysocial Some small corrections: there is currently only a resolution on the table to break Aramark's monopoly. However, in-person visitation is something the abolition group will continue to fight for. Also, thanks to Ryan Clancy's efforts, the comissary prices have substantially improved. Inmates are now paying roughly 125% markups as opposed to the 200-300% markups they were paying before. However, breaking Aramark's monopoly is still crucial to ensure that prisoners get adequate food in the cafeteria.
