Elly and Vince first matched on Bumble two weeks ago and immediately hit it off because of how mature Vince acted when talking to Elly. Elly tells us they actually went on their first date last week to dinner and that things went really well, but ever since their date she hasn't heard from Vince. Elly isn't sure what went wrong because she thought things were going in the right direction which is why she asks for our help. We call Vince trying to figure out if there is anything else between him and Elly that happened that may have caused things to go wrong and he tells us that he wasn't a fan of what Elly said on their date. Find out what's really going on in this Second Date Update!

This week on Open Sources Guelph, we're making a sad face. Not just about the condition of our New Democratic Party, but also because there's another flashpoint in the world that's using violent means to reach violent ends. At least everything local is cool, right? Well, not so fast, because we have another guest from city council who will be stopping by to set us straight. This Thursday, May 15, at 5 pm, Scotty Hertz and Adam A. Donaldson will discuss: Kashmir. In a violent world, the disputed region between India and Pakistan might be among the most violent and it certainly looked that way again when the two countries started attacking each other last week following a terrorist attack in the India-controlled portion. Keep in mind, these are two nuclear powers, and they've been fighting each other for almost 80 years, so why is this latest provocation so dangerous and what do both sides in this conflict hope to get out of it? The Dip. The federal NDP was routed in the election a few weeks, and are now leaderless with seven seats in the House. And yes, while many people strategically voted Liberal, many more formally NDP seats in working class ridings in Ontario and B.C. went to the Conservatives. So what the heck happened, and how does the NDP climb back to official party? We will discuss what the New Democrats have to do to appeal to their base again, and why what they have been doing, isn't working. System of a Downer. It's been a busy few weeks at city council. More discussion about the state of housing, a new plan to tackle climate change, new legislation from the provincial government, a potential issue with fees around a student residence, and a new vacancy in Ward 6. That's a lot to figure out so we've recruited a very experienced and well-spoken guest to help us make sense of it all. Ward 5 City Councillor Cathy Downer will join us to lend some insight from the council chambers! Open Sources is live on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca at 5 pm on Thursday.
It's all about the trains this week and the State Member for Maryborough claims it's his top priority to ensure there are no job losses at Downer.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Cinebuds is sponsored by Joe Wilde Co.The Milwaukee Film Festival doesn't stop after week one, so neither do we!We're into the second phase of the annual event, and in the extremely remote chance you thought Dori and Kpolly would run out of films to talk about, rest assured that the folks at Milwaukee Film have provided plenty to cover.Speaking of those folks, programming director Kerstin Larson is back! If you want to get technical about how we record these things, she actually never left … but still. It's great to have an insider like Kerstin helping us sort through the 96(!) features and oodles of short programs across five screens at the Oriental and Downer theaters. On this episode, the trio briefly hit on the unique environment of a film festival, the excitement around seeing these projects that aren't always what you expect, and how going to a theater will always (always!!!) kick the rear end of watching a movie at home.Milwaukee Film Festival picks: Week 2What Happened to Dorothy Bell? After uncovering disturbing revelations from her early childhood involving her late grandmother, Ozzie Gray sets out to investigate her past. Desperate for answers, she attempts to communicate with Dorothy's spirit but unwittingly awakens something malevolent.Midnight ShortsWho doesn't love a little mayhem? It's a late-night party so unhinged, you can only see it after midnight. OK, it starts at 10 p.m. … but maybe it'll go until midnight?BalomaniaThe culture and work of Brazilian baloeiros — secret groups of men who craft and launch intricate hot-air balloon art — deserve a place on the big screen. This epic portrayal captures the free-spirited artistry and subculture, showcasing a raw, authentic exploration of Brazilian masculinity.HarvestOver seven hallucinatory days, a village with no name, in an undefined time and place, disappears. Tsangari's follow up to 2015's Chevalier, this tragicomic take on a Western follows townsman-turned-farmer Walter Thirsk (Caleb Landry Jones) and befuddled lord of the manor Charles Kent (Harry Melling), childhood friends who are about to face an invasion from the outside world: the trauma of modernity. The Milwaukee Show (One and Two)Each year, The Milwaukee Show is one of the hottest tickets of the festival — a rare chance to see work from our local best and brightest in the gloriously opulent setting of our beloved Oriental Theatre's Abele Cinema. Structured like a typical apocalypse film, 40 Acres subverts expectations in ways that will leave you breathless. In this week's enlightening episode of the Faculty Factory Podcast, we explore finding satisfaction in our careers. We discuss how we measure and perceive this satisfaction, as well as examine its connection to success—or the lack thereof. Joining us for this introspective discussion is our first-time guest, Brian Downer, PhD. With the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Dr. Downer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Population Health and Health Disparities in the School of Public and Population Health. He is also the Director of the Rehabilitation Sciences Graduate Program and a Program Director for Population Health Sciences Program. Dr. Downer is a Gerontologist by training. If you would like to read the article referenced by Dr. Downer in this podcast, you can find the 2023 article from the Harvard Business Review titled "Why Success Doesn't Lead to Satisfaction" here: https://hbr.org/2023/01/why-success-doesnt-lead-to-satisfaction. Where does satisfaction start? Perhaps with a shift in your mindset, as we learn from Dr. Downer and the article he references above throughout today's conversation. As outlined in this podcast, that mindset shift is about finding satisfaction “because,” not “when.” Essentially, if you wait until you achieve something to believe that you will derive satisfaction from it, that fulfillment may never come, or it may be very short-lived, leaving you wanting so much more. Finding joy in the journey, rather than in the destination, can be the key to achieving the satisfaction that you might otherwise find missing as your career milestones, laurels, achievements, and “successes” accumulate. How to go about capturing that joy is at the heart of this discussion. Visit the Faculty Factory website for more resources: https://facultyfactory.org/.
We love “the new.” Especially when it comes to the restaurant scene, we get excited about the spot that just opened its doors or discovering a place the rest of the community hasn't caught on to yet. While the rookies get everyone worked up, it's the veterans who create the foundation of a city's food identity. And we've got two of them leading the lineup for this episode of the podcast.First up is Bacchus, the venerable Bartolotta-owned restaurant that announced a couple different developments around its 20th anniversary. For starters, executive chef Nick Wirth and chef de cuisine Brent Davis have come up with a new a la carte dinner menu, which will debut along with a new bar menu Feb. 20. Among the items you'll find are charred Spanish octopus, smoked wagyu pastrami, Seremoni black cod with burnt honey celeriac and couscous pilaf, and Wagyu skirt steak with miso-glazed ube and grilled kimchi bok choy. The restaurant will also take a night to properly celebrate the 20th anniversary as it hosts a champagne dinner March 6. The aforementioned chef duo have put together a five-course menu for the occasion, which will also include pairings of bubbly from the likes of Dom Pérignon and Laurent Perrier.Another longstanding Milwaukee eatery got the Ann Christenson treatment recently, as our favorite food writer took a peek inside Pizza Man's comeback. Once the king of our city's pie scene (arguably), Pizza Man experienced some slippage as it suffered through fire, a couple location changes and attempted expansion. It's now back at the Downer location and trying to recapture its former glory under new owners Thomas Schafer and Krys Zielinski. Ann stopped by a couple times to get a feel for how things are coming along and found mixed results, as well as steady improvement. As she put it in her Milwaukee Magazine story, “This reboot needs to succeed. Downer Avenue needs it to.”Here's what else found its way into this episode:A juicy piece about Prime Rib you'll only find in the pages of Milwaukee Magazine.A new concept called Outlaw Oyster that'll pop-up inside Crafty Cow's Wauwatosa location.A chat about What Mrs. Fisher Knows About Old Southern Cooking, the first African-American cookbook from 1881.Finally, we have another in our series of interviews with some of Milwaukee's very best chefs — who just so happen to be whipping up an original dish you can try at Radio Milwaukee's SoundBites. Egg & Flour's Adam Pawlak gets the microphone on this episode and talks with Kenny Perez about the tostada he's working on for Feb. 27.Adam is one of 12 different chefs lending their considerable talents to SoundBites, a group that includes Dane Baldwin from The Diplomat, Kristen Schwab from The Wolf and Gregory León from Amilinda. To make your reservation at this very exclusive table, head over to the event page.

If “Wicked, Part I” and “Gladiator II” are not getting you into the theatre this weekend, Justin Chang, The New Yorker's film critic, offers three other films coming out this holiday season which are “among the most thrilling that I've seen this year.” He recommends “Nickel Boys,” based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Colson Whitehead and directed by RaMell Ross; “The Brutalist,” starring Adrian Brody; and “Hard Truths,” directed by Mike Leigh. These are heavy subjects—not traditional holiday fare—but “I returned to the words of Roger Ebert,” Chang tells David Remnick. “No good movie is depressing. All bad movies are depressing.”

Lesley Downer's fascination with Japan's most famous poet took her from Tokyo's drab industrial concrete into what was then a seldom-visited part of Honshu. It was a place of sake-drenched poetry sessions in thatched-roof highland villages, and holy mountains where modern ascetics continued to roam between their past and future lives in search of atonement.
