GracePoint Church: helping people meet, know and follow Jesus
About the series: Peter's death was imminent, and he knew his time was short. This reality prompted Peter to write again but this time his tone was more intense. He wanted the early church to know: 1. God loves this world and is determined to rescue it! And 2. God will confront and deal with evil for the sake of a new forever future! About this week's message: The many false teachers in Peters' day lived with their lives of sin and immorality with little to no consequences. Therefore, they mocked that judgment was not coming. Peter gives evidence that God ultimately will bring divine justice based upon how God has brought it in the past. Key Phrase: “He did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on it ungodly people.” 2 Peter 2:5

He wanted the early church to know: 1. God loves this world and is determined to rescue it! And 2. God will confront and deal with evil for the sake of a new forever future! About this week's message: Peter was adamantly against what some false teachers were teaching: the stories of Jesus were made up stories. Peter was not only an eyewitness of the glory of Christ, but the prophets of God described the same things. These false accusations are still around today. Key Phrase: “For we did not follow cleverly devised stories…” 2 Peter 1:16

About the series: Following the baseball analogy, parents (and grandparents) have 4 clearly defined roles in scripture. These 4 roles need to be taken seriously and applied consistently. If this happens, the child and the adults will be blessed beyond measure! About this week's message: One of the most unique aspects of the game of baseball, it's the only sport where the coaches wear a uniform (with a #) just like every player. This is symbolic of life of both parent and children. As long as a parent still has breath, they are playing the game of life just like their kids are. Every parent has the opportunity to live and build a lasting legacy that will far outlive their days on planet earth. Key Phrase: “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.” Philippians 3:13
About the series: Following the baseball analogy, parents (and grandparents) have 4 clearly defined roles in scripture. These 4 roles need to be taken seriously and applied consistently. If this happens, the child and the adults will be blessed beyond measure! About this week's message: Perspectives about life and views of the world are primarily formed at home. It is parents and grandparents whom God has designed to primarily disciple children. Most parents do not have a biblical, God-honoring game plan to disciple/teach/coach their children. Thankfully, there are great resources available today! Key Phrase: “So that you, your children, and their children after them may fear the Lord your God.” Deuteronomy 6:2
About the series: Following the baseball analogy, parents (and grandparents) have 4 clearly defined roles in scripture. These 4 roles need to be taken seriously and applied consistently. If this happens, the child and the adults will be blessed beyond measure! About this week's message: Umpires are a needed and necessary part of the game. You can have the most beautifully marked chalk lines on the field, but they are meaningless if they are not enforced. The best umpires have a few distinct attributes that cause them to stand out among their peers and be highly respected by the players. These attributes make the best parents too! Key Phrase: “…the Lord disciplines those he loves.” Hebrews 12:6
About the series: Following the baseball analogy, parents (and grandparents) have 4 clearly defined roles in scripture. These 4 roles need to be taken seriously and applied consistently. If this happens, the child and the adults will be blessed beyond measure! About this week's message: The role of groundskeeper in baseball is very important. If the playing field is not maintained, the field will not be safe. If the foul lines are not chalked, the game will result in arguments, confusion, and chaos. God knows children need a healthy field with clearly marked boundary lines. Key Phrase: “The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places…” Proverbs 16:6
About the series: It's not just a relationship, a purchase, or a decision. It's a path. Every path has a destination. In the end, we will end up at the destination from the path we have chosen to take. With driving or hiking, getting lost will cost us minutes or hours. With life, it will cost us years! About this week's message: We are surrounded with advertisements calling out to us to purchase their product. The ads use subtle hooks to lure people to buy. Hooks such as, “You need this!” “Everyone has this!” “Don't think, just buy it!” Too many people are living in financial bondage as a result. They unknowingly walked a path that led them to ruin and destruction. Key Phrase: “Be very careful, then, how you live – not unwise but as wise.”Ephesians 5:15

In the end, we will end up at the destination from the path we have chosen to take. With driving or hiking, getting lost will cost us minutes or hours. With life, it will cost us years! About this week's message: Information is NOT our problem. We are drowning in it. Independence is our problem. We want to do whatever we want to do. Submission is also our problem. We don't really want advice. So we say, “I've got this. I know what I'm doing!” Do we, really? Key Phrase: “Do not be wise in your own eyes.” Proverbs 3:7a

In the end, we will end up at the destination from the path we have chosen to take. With driving or hiking, getting lost will cost us minutes or hours. With life, it will cost us years! About this week's message: We put so much weight on people's intentions these days. If politicians make a poor decision, they want their good intentions to trump their poor decision. In life, it doesn't work this way. Direction – not intentions – determines our destination. Key Phrase: “The prudent see danger and take refuge.” Proverbs 27:12
About the series: For 40 days, the army of Israel hid in fear of Goliath. Why did they hide? Why were they paralyzed by fear? Because they were an army of identity amnesiacs! They had forgotten WHO they were! This series will remind us WHO we are IN CHRIST. About this week's message: Sadly, not every child is loved by their parents. These children grow up in a continual search for love they were designed to receive. In Christ, we are loved by God. Sadly, many people know this intellectually but not practically. They don't REALLY believe that they are loved… by… God! Key Phrase: “See what great love the Father has lavished on us.” 1 John 3:1

They had forgotten WHO they were! This series will remind us WHO we are IN CHRIST. About this week's message: Every child is precious and special. An adopted child takes this to the next level. Why? Because they were chosen. How special it is to be adopted into God's family and called a child of God. Key Phrase: “You are no longer foreigners… but members of His household.” Ephesians 2:19

They had forgotten WHO they were! This series will remind us WHO we are IN CHRIST. About this week's message: Jesus did not create us on an assembly line to be cast aside and forgotten. We are not out of His sight and out of His mind. Instead, we are always in His sight and we are always on His mind. Key Phrase: “How precious are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!” Psalm 139:17

They had forgotten WHO they were! This series will remind us WHO we are IN CHRIST. About this week's message: Jesus crafted us in the womb, and we are uniquely designed and one of a kind. There is no one else like us, per His desire. Because each of us are made in the image of God, we have intrinsic value like no other! Key Phrase: “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:14

They had forgotten WHO they were! This series will remind us WHO we are IN CHRIST. About this week's message: One of the lies of Satan is convincing us that we are all alone; that no one understands us or what we are going through. Not true! Christ is our constant companion. He is our Friend who will never leave us or forsake us! Key Phrase: “If I… you are there.” Psalm 139:7.8

About the series: Pirates were feared raiders of treasures on the high seas. They lied, killed, pillaged, and plundered at will. Sailing vessels were always on high alert for any signs of pirates. There are plenty'o pirates around today when it comes to our personal “treasures.” If you look carefully, Jack Sparrow could be just around the bend. About this week's message: The Land of Contentment is a land that is highly sought after but often elusive by many people. The Land of Contentment is a place Pirates do not want us to settle in. But for those who find it, enjoy a life of peace, rest, and joy! Key Phrase: “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.” Philippians 4:11

About this week's message: Everything we will ever buy will eventually burn, break, or be given to someone else. Everything we will ever buy has an expiration date that will disappear or collect dust. How we leverage what we have will demonstrate our wisdom or foolishness. Key Phrase: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:21

About this week's message: How we view the issue of Ownership will determine the kind of perspective we will have about life and our “stuff.” It will also shape our attitudes, our time use, our efforts, and our energy. Problems arise when people forget who the real Owner is and become PIRATES. Key Phrase: “To the Lord your God belongs the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.” Deuteronomy 10:14
About the series: Of all ways that God chose to redeem mankind, He chose to send His Son, Jesus, to be the Incarnate God: God in the Flesh. This isn't just a part of the Christmas story. For believers, He's with us all throughout our life! About this week's message: Storms in the Mediterranean often show up when people least expect it. These storms can be fierce, scary, and deadly. However, peace is not the absence of a storm. Peace is found in the presence of Jesus. Key Phrase: “Keep your courage, men, for I have faith in God.” Acts 27:25
About the series: Of all ways that God chose to redeem mankind, He chose to send His Son, Jesus, to be the Incarnate God: God in the Flesh. This isn't just a part of the Christmas story. For believers, He's with us all throughout our life! About this week's message: God is with us when we choose to travel into the wilderness. The wilderness is a metaphor for wandering, loneliness, or going off course. This can happen to anyone for a variety of reasons. But God is with us nonetheless, gently calling us back. Key Phrase: “After the fire came a gentle whisper.” 1 Kings 19:12

For believers, He's with us all throughout our life! About this week's message: Life is not lived on the mountains, but in the valleys. Immanuel is with us when we walk through the valleys in our lives. The key is where we find our strength. Key Phrase: “Blessed are those who strength is found in you.” Psalm 84:5
About the series: Worship is our response, both personal and corporate, to God for Who He is, and what He has done, expressed in and by the things we say and the way we live. About this week's message: Our human tendency is to be all about ME & MINE. What God wants from us is to be about YOU and YOURS, Lord! Jesus sacrificed himself to show us how much we are worth to Him. God-glorifying worship involves sacrifice to demonstrate how much worth the Lord means to us. Key Phrase: “Let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise.” Hebrews 13:15
This Series: Worship is our response, both personal and corporate, to God for Who He is, and what He has done, expressed in and by the things we say and the way we live. This Week: Worshipping God is not passive but active. It requires not only a reaction of the heart but some sort of physical response. Whether it's our heart and/or our body, the picture of worship is of one who is bowing down. Key Phrase: “His worshippers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:24

This Series: Worship is our response, both personal and corporate, to God for Who He is, and what He has done, expressed in and by the things we say and the way we live. This Week: Just as the moon is not the source of light, only the reflection of it, we are all mirrors and will reflect praise and worship upon something or someone. Each worship path leads to a throne. You're going to give God's breath to something or someone. Key Phrase: “His worshippers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:24
This Series: 1 Peter is written to Gentile believers living in a hostile, pagan culture. Peter points believers to the HOPE they have in the midst of their suffering that is fueled by the HOPE of the return of Christ. This Week: Peter closes his letter with a gentle admonition to church leaders. The lowest leverage of leadership is one's title. Too often, ministry leaders “lord” over their ministry out of selfishness, pride, or arrogance. Instead, godly leadership humbly and lovingly serves the flock for God's glory, not their own. Key Phrase: “Eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you.” 1 Peter 5:3
This Series: 1 Peter is written to Gentile believers living in a hostile, pagan culture. Peter points believers to the HOPE they have in the midst of their suffering that is fueled by the HOPE of the return of Christ. This Week: Believers, especially today, need to stop worrying about the wicked and start looking at their own behavior and motives behind the behavior and live in a way that is pleasing to the Lord. Suffering for righteousness is better than suffering for stupidity. It's time for the “Church” to take a healthy check in the mirror! Key Phrase: “For it is time for the judgment to begin with God's household.” 1 Peter 4:17
This Series: 1 Peter is written to Gentile believers living in a hostile, pagan culture. Peter points believers to the HOPE they have in the midst of their suffering that is fueled by the HOPE of the return of Christ. This Week: Anyone can repay evil with evil. However, living the Alien Life will cause believers to repay evil with blessing. This type of behavior will send shockwaves of blessing to those who witness it. Key Phrase: “On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called to so that others may inherit a blessing.” 1 Peter 3:9
This Series: 1 Peter is written to Gentile believers living in a hostile, pagan culture. Peter points believers to the HOPE they have in the midst of their suffering that is fueled by the HOPE of the return of Christ. This Week: A healthy, godly marriage is one of the best testimonies for Christ today. Why? Because great marriages are becoming more and more rare. Peter breaks down how to treat your spouse when they are not a believer or not acting like one. Here are practical ways to bless one's marriage as a testimony for others to see God in and through you. Key Phrase: “That they may be won over without words by the behavior...” 1 Peter 3:1
This Series: 1 Peter is written to Gentile believers living in a hostile, pagan culture. Peter points believers to the HOPE they have in the midst of their suffering that is fueled by the HOPE of the return of Christ. This Week: Light is the strongest contrast to darkness. Living as people of the light will draw attention. May we live in such a way that we are living billboards that give great advertisement for our Savior. Key Phrase: “Live such good lives among the pagan that…they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” 1 Peter 2:12
This Series: 1 Peter is written to Gentile believers living in a hostile, pagan culture. Peter points believers to the HOPE they have in the midst of their suffering that is fueled by the HOPE of the return of Christ. This Week: Believers are called to be different. Not weird, but different. Choosing to live differently will appear strange to those who don't know Christ. However, the Alien Life can become attractive because it is so rare! Key Phrase: “Live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.” 1 Peter 1:17
This Series: 1 Peter is written to Gentile believers living in a hostile, pagan culture. Peter points believers to the HOPE they have in the midst of their suffering that is fueled by the HOPE of the return of Christ. This Week: Because of the gospel of Christ, believers are born into a living hope through the resurrection of Christ. The challenge to believers living in a hostile culture is to fix your focus on Christ and your identity found in Him! Key Phrase: “Even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy… 1 Peter 1:8

This Series: Earlier this year we looked at questions God asked in the Old Testament. To finish out this summer, we will look at 4 penetrating questions that Jesus asked in the New Testament – questions that apply to us today. This Week: Words mean things. The meaning of Lord is: 1. a title of honor expressive of respect and reverence; 2. To whom a person belongs about which he has power of deciding; 3. one who has control. Given the weight behind its meaning, to call Jesus your Lord and then not obey what he says is a slap to his face. Ouch! Key Phrase: “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,' and not do what I say?” Luke 6:46
This Series: Earlier this year we looked at questions God asked in the Old Testament. To finish out this summer, we will look at 4 penetrating questions that Jesus asked in the New Testament – questions that apply to us today. This Week: Many believers are just like the disciples of Jesus – fearful and worrisome. Would Jesus look you in the eye and ask you this question? Key Phrase: “Do you still have no faith?” Mark 4:35-41
This Series: Earlier this year we looked at questions God asked in the Old Testament. To finish out this summer, we will look at 4 penetrating questions that Jesus asked in the New Testament – questions that apply to us today. This Week: It is incredibly easy to find fault in those around us. On the flip side, it is so difficult to see our own faults. If we are honest, this question hits all of us squarely in the heart. Key Phrase: “First take the plank out of your own eye.” Matthew 7:5
This Series: We all get squeezed by life, whether it's an irritating driver, co-worker, neighbor, or anyone else who gets on our nerves. We all face frustrating life events such as car problems, unexpected bills, unmet expectations, or an end of a relationship. When we get squeezed by life, something WILL come out of us. It will either sweet or it will be sour. What comes out depends on how close we are walking with the Spirit. This Week: Someone will little-to-no self-control is still a child. Self-control is a sign of maturity. A lack of self-control is embarrassing while one with self-control is respectable. This fruit of the Spirit is greatly needed today. Following the Spirit of God will help us make wise choices with the emotions we feel and the words that we want to share. Key Phrase: “The fruit of the Spirit is… self-control.” Galatians 5:23

However, a horse that has be broken and trained is another story all together. This horse you can trust with a child on its back and a bridle in its mouth. Gentleness means strength under control. Jesus modeled gentleness when he was beaten and falsely accused. He chose to remain silent – the epitome of gentleness. Anyone can go “off” on someone else when they are angry. It takes incredible power to remain calm (gentle) when someone is going “off” on you. This fruit of the Spirit is something many will admire and respect today. Key Phrase: “The fruit of the Spirit is… gentleness…” Galatians 5:23

What comes out depends on how close we are walking with the Spirit. • This Week: Once again, this fruit of the Spirit is rare today because our culture is nowhere near walking with God. Relationships, marriages, and commitments are broken easily whenever the situation gets difficult or inconvenient. Being faithful to your word used to mean a great deal. Walking in step with the Spirit will cause us to be the rare person today: someone who is faithful; one who others can count on. Key Phrase: “The fruit of the Spirit is… faithfulness…” Galatians 5:22

Goodness is something we do. It is action oriented. It's doing something that is good and beneficial for someone. It is blessing someone because God has blessed you. When one is in step with the Spirit, we will have eyes to see the good He wants us to do. Key Phrase: “The fruit of the Spirit is… goodness…” Galatians 5:22

Comments on social media are rude and harsh. Drivers won't let other cars merge, even if their blinker is on. Smiles are rare while curse words are everywhere. However, one of the sweetest fruits of the spirit is kindness such as: talking kindly, greeting kindly, disagreeing kindly, driving kindly, etc. Sadly, studies show the first thing to disappear in a marriage is simple kindness. This won't happen when a follower is in step with the Spirit. Key Phrase: “The fruit of the Spirit is… kindness…” Galatians 5:22
