Welcome to The Hangar Z Podcast, brought to you by Vertical HeliCASTS, in partnership with Valor Plus. Today's episode is a powerful and deeply human conversation centered on service, trust, and taking care of one another in some of the most demanding environments imaginable. Our guest is Dave Wuertz, manager of peer support for PHI Air Medical. Dave's story is shaped by a lifetime of service in the medical field—starting with an emergecny medical technician (EMT) class in college, and influenced even earlier by his father's work on an ambulance. From those early experiences, Dave went on to become a paramedic, a trainer, and eventually, an air medical flight nurse. Along the way, he also became a founding member of the peer support program at PHI Air Medical, helping build a culture that recognizes mental wellness as mission-critical. In this episode, we dive into why peer support matters so much in public service—especially in air medical—why proactive peer support is far more effective than reactive approaches, and why trust is the cornerstone of any successful program. Dave shares impactful incidents from his time as an air medical flight crew member and from his work supporting others, offering real-world perspective on what these crews face every day. We also discuss the mindset of “four to go, one to say no,” and how speaking up can be the difference between a safe mission and a tragic outcome. You'll also hear an overview of PHI Air Medical's nationwide footprint and the scale of responsibility carried by its teams across the country. And as a special connection for longtime listeners, we talk about Dave's long-standing professional relationship with one of our favorite guests, Dr. Tania Glenn, and how that collaboration reinforces the importance of mental wellness training done right. This is an honest, meaningful conversation about caring for the caregivers—and one you won't want to miss. Thank you to all our sponsors and to our loyal listeners. Marc Granville, Senior Director at ICMA and Head of Education and Training, speaks with Hugh Friel, Senior Vice President at Frontclear, in the second part of this episode to explore how technology and standardisation are reshaping repo and collateral markets across emerging and frontier economies. The discussion highlights how digital innovation and framework agreements can streamline legal onboarding, reduce documentation timelines for key agreements such as GMRA and ISDA, and support the evolution of repo markets from a “by appointment” model to a more efficient, flow based structure. It also examines the broader conditions required for sustainable market development, including long term policy commitment, robust legal and regulatory frameworks, and effective capacity building through blended education and training to strengthen expertise and support the development of global collateral markets.

Sometimes when I look around the world, I want to bring justice to what's unjust. Is anyone with me on that? There just seems to be so much that needs to be changed! Today, Pastor Ken gives us hope. He says God will bring justice to those who are against His will and that if they don't repent, He'll bring justice. You aren't meant to bring justice to those who are unjust. God promises to make all things right in the end! As hard as that is to trust in, you must remember that God's plans are far better than your own!
Have you ever realized that it's difficult to find peace when you're relying on yourself? I know when I do, I start to second-guess my decisions and ask myself if what I'm doing is actually right. In today's message, Pastor Ken says as a Christian, you must trust in God fully and allow Him to lead you. It's easy to be sucked into what this world thinks is good and right for you, but God wants you to fully depend on Him and let Him lead your life. He has the eternal perspective and will lead you to better things.

When I was in college, I always wanted to get good grades, but sometimes it was hard for me to do so. As much as I wanted to, I never put in the work to actually get good grades. I would take notes in class and then go home and never study, and let me tell you, that's not a recipe for success. Today, Pastor Ken says you must have faith in the Lord to live in eternity with Him. You must live for Him fully! Scripture says you will know a believer by their fruit, meaning you must live according to God's will for your life!

In Part II of this two-part series, guest host Esaa Mohammad Sabti Samarah, PhD, LMSW reunites with Dr. Siham Elkassem, Dr. Bryn King, Dr. Nuha Dwaikat-Shaer, and doctoral candidate Amilah Baksh to move beyond naming harm and toward a deeper examination of responsibility. This episode turns a critical lens on how the social work profession responds, or fails to respond, to anti-Palestinian, anti-Arab, and anti-Muslim racisms, with particular attention to the ways calls for “neutrality” shape research, teaching, and professional practice. The conversation interrogates neutrality as it appears in social work academia, especially in relation to empiricism and claims of objectivity. The panel introduces and critically examines the concept of “weepy universalism,” a term they coin for social workers in their forthcoming work to describe how generalized expressions of sympathy can obscure power, flatten difference, and ultimately reproduce harm rather than challenge it.The episode also brings these debates down from theory to practice, exploring what they mean for social workers on the ground, particularly those working with youth and communities most directly impacted by these forms of racism. The series closes with a collective call to action, challenging the profession to move beyond symbolic gestures and toward principled, sustained solidarity with Palestinians, Arabs, and Muslims, as part of broader struggles for justice and liberation. This episode invites listeners to reckon with complicity, resist comfort, and reimagine what ethical practice demands in moments of profound injustice.#BeyondNeutrality #EthicalSocialWork #SolidarityNotSilence #WeepyUniversalism #YouthJustice #DecolonizeSocialWork #JusticeInActionLinks to Published WorksDwaikat-Shaer, N., Baksh, A., Elkassem, S., & King, B.
