If God is good, why is there so much pain in the world? For many people, the state of the world calls the Christian message into serious doubt. Christianity can't be good news if God is happy with things the way they are. How do we make sense of the claim that God is good and loving when there's so much suffering? Christ Church Inner West's Senior Minister Andrew Katay continues our series engaging with three common objections to Christian belief.Bible Readings: Psalm 23; Luke 13.1–5

Mackelly and Simon consider their opening gambit.Chapter Review:Tyrion Lannister wakes early on the Shy Maid. He watches with undisguised interest as Septa Lemore bathes in the river. She shows signs of having given birth at some prior point, but remains an attractive woman. Ysilla makes breakfast and keeps all at bay, with the exception of Young Griff whom she plies with more than he needs.Duck spars with Young Griff, Haldon teaches him languages, geography, geometry, and history. It seems that Tyrion will contribute to this expansive education: he's been tasked with writing down all he can recall about raising and breeding dragons. Haldon offers Tyrion a game of cyvasse while Young Griff studies further with Septa Lemore. Haldon has beaten Tyrion every previous game, so he eagerly accepts Tyrion's wager that the loser must share some secrets. In Burying the Enemy: The Story of Those who Cared for the Dead in Two World Wars (Yale University Press, 2025), Tim Grady recounts here a detailed history of the fate of combatants who died on enemy soil in England and Germany in  World Wars I and II. The books draws on a rich archive of personal family experiences, and describes the often touching acts of kindness and reconciliation with families caring for graves of enemy personnel in churchyards and local cemeteries close to where those deaths took place. Both sides were at pains to photograph tended graves, demonstrating reciprocal respect. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the German equivalent - the VDK - obscured decision-making around repatriation, which led to some family distress. Grady recounts in detail the creation of the German military cemetery at Cannock Chase, which comprised a year-long programme of exhumations across the UK. This book is a highly readable and touching account of the tensions that arose between families and the state in response to military death in the World Wars, offering a unique insight into personal German/English relations during both and after both conflicts. Tim Grady is professor of modern history at the University of Chester. Dr Julie Rugg is a Reader in Social Policy at the University of York, UK. Invasion and inflation. Those were the two big campaign issues. So today, we conduct an examination of where things stand on both of those issues. The reality is that the courts are crushing Trump on deportations, and unless he stands up to the courts, the campaign promises will fall flat. I call on Trump to issue an “executive review” panel to joust with the courts and also pledge not to send out the marshals against red-state officials who ignore rulings they deem unlawful. We also discuss the political situation in Florida and how the vile uniparty RINOs hate DeSantis for using the machinery of government for the betterment of the people and to move the state to the right. What about inflation? We need to stop gaslighting people into thinking we've solved the spending problem. I go through some economic data and juxtapose to congressional budget plans to show how we are going backward. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Celebrating Women's History Month, this episode of Big Blend Radio features award-winning journalist Maura Casey who discusses her debut memoir, "Saving Ellen: A Memoir of Hope and Recovery” (Skyhorse Publishing, April 1, 2025). The book crafts a vivid and poignant narrative of a working-class family's resilience in the face of a terminal diagnosis. Growing up in a family torn by addiction and financial hardship, Maura's early years were shaped by instability and survival. Cared for by Dr. Mary Hawking (sibling of Stephen Hawking), her sister Ellen's life-threatening battle with kidney disease added another layer of heartache, but it also deepened Maura's understanding of courage and family bonds. Through it all, Maura has reframed the pain of her past, uncovering hope and meaning even in life's darkest chapters. More: https://www.caseyink.com/  For over 30 years, Casey was an opinion writer for three New England newspapers and The New York Times, where she had a seat on the exalted Times editorial board. About the series: For 40 days, the army of Israel hid in fear of Goliath. Why did they hide? Why were they paralyzed by fear? Because they were an army of identity amnesiacs! They had forgotten WHO they were! This series will remind us WHO we are IN CHRIST.   About this week's message: Jesus did not create us on an assembly line to be cast aside and forgotten. We are not out of His sight and out of His mind. Instead, we are always in His sight and we are always on His mind.   Key Phrase: “How precious are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!” Psalm 139:17

Over the weekend, Syrian rebels overthrew the Assad dynasty, which had ruled the country for 5 decades. On Monday, the US stock market shrugged, and meaningful news coverage of the event was hard to find. Do American investors simply not care about the rest of the world? After all, there seem to be a lot of global problems and US stocks are at an all-time high. Further, what is it about the Middle East where just about all countries have a powerful king or some other form of strongman or junta calling the shots? Will it ever change? In this week's Trading Perspectives, Sam Clement and John Norris discuss the recent Syrian Revolution, and why Americans ignored it almost as soon as it happened.
