Fear can feel comfortable, like an old shirt that gives you a sense of familiarity. But just like you shouldn't try to squeeze into clothes you've outgrown, you need to let go of fear that restricts you as well. In Week 1 of “Pick a Side” Pastor Naeem explains how it's not faith - but love - that drives out fear. If you're facing uncertainty, disagreements or crisis, this message will help you practically choose love in your daily encounters. ——————— Sunday Sermons is the recorded messages from Mosaic Church in Charlotte, NC. Noah's Ark is traditionally thought of as a story for kids, but when you read the scriptures, this is not a sweet, innocent story. It depicts an angry God who gets fed up with humanity and chooses destruction as a solution. In this last week of Old School, we reframe the story of the flood to see what it teaches us about God. If you've feared that God has given up on you or that you're never going to be deserving of love, it's time to relearn this story from Genesis 6 as a story of redemption by a God who never quits on humanity. Because sometimes focusing on the details of the story keep you from really seeing what the story is pointing to. ——————— Sunday Sermons is the recorded messages from Mosaic Church in Charlotte, NC. When we're chosen for something - a job, a team, a special project - it makes us feel special. Sometimes we're picked because we earned it or did something to deserve the position. But when it comes to God, he doesn't choose people for recognition, but responsibility. This message on Abraham and Sarah (or Abram and Sarai), centers on an often overlooked person in their story, Hagar. It also also sheds a light on what happens when God's people mistake their chosenness for privilege. If you're wondering why God needs to have a specific, set apart group of people to begin with, this message on Genesis 16 and Genesis 22 will help you understand what it means to be in God's family. ——————— Sunday Sermons is the recorded messages from Mosaic Church in Charlotte, NC. It's one of the most difficult stories in the Bible, but it's also one of the most misunderstood. You probably know the story of Abraham and Isaac as an example of sacrifice. You may have been asked “Would you sacrifice your Isaac for God?” to show your love, devotion or praise. But it's really a story about trust. Digging into context and common practices of the gods at the time will help you see this story of a father and son as foreshadowing to the life of Jesus. If you've struggled with a God who uses the pain of people as an ego boost, you'll find healing in the true message of the one who sacrificed more than he'll ever ask of us. Because Genesis 22 is really about a father who provides. ——————— Sunday Sermons is the recorded messages from Mosaic Church in Charlotte, NC. Everyone thinks they know the story of Jonah because it's a classic for Veggie Tales and Sunday School. But the book of Jonah isn't just about disobedience realized from the belly of a big fish. It's satire, an intentionally exaggerated story that shows us the patience of God hiding in plain sight from beginning to end. If you know God is showing you something but you're having a hard time seeing it clearly, this message will help you open your eyes to see the way God does. You can stop looking for hidden clues in the Bible to lead you to a truth that needs revealing. God has been right front of you the whole time, and he'll keep waiting patiently until you understand. ——————— Sunday Sermons is the recorded messages from Mosaic Church in Charlotte, NC. In relationships, you shouldn't ask the question “Do you think about me as much as I think about you?” because the answer may be disappointing. But do you ever wonder if God thinks about you? Scriptures like Jeremiah 29:11 tell us that God does. He thinks about your plans, hopes and future. This message will challenge you to ask the question, how often do you think about God? The book of Ezra will encourage you that it's probably more often than you realize. Every time you're generous with your time, talents and treasures to build the kingdom, you're thinking of what matters most to God. ——————— Sunday Sermons is the recorded messages from Mosaic Church in Charlotte, NC. Have Christians focused so much on humanity's failures that we've forgotten who we are? Because according to God's word in Genesis 1, before there was shame, there was goodness. When we confuse the order, we confuse our identities as God's good creation. This message on the story of Adam and Eve will help you understand the real impact of sin and how Jesus redeems us through relationship with him. God is not playing games with you, but sometimes it feels like life is dealing you in to a game you didn't ask to play. Instead of asking why you have to handle certain things that other people don't seem to have to worry about, you can learn to deal with what you've got. In chapters 24-26 of Acts, you'll see how the apostle Paul handles difficult people, disappointing results and discouraging processes. If you need help staying calm, finding confidence or being encouraged to stay committed, this message is for you. You've come this far. Because you have already been adopted into God's family, as God's beloved child, no matter what you may have been told. In Acts 22 and 23, Paul gets othered, arrested and attacked by people who find his new faith to be a threat. Can faith be borrowed? When we adopt the beliefs, practices, truths or opinions of our parents, pastors or other faith leaders, we can end up without a faith of our own. If you're ready to move from a head knowledge of knowing about God to making your relationship with God personal, this message will show you how to take responsibility of your Christian faith. We're comforted by clarity, control and certainty, but when it comes to Christianity, comfort was not guaranteed. When Jesus ascended to heaven, he left his Holy Spirit with us as a helper, guide - and even a comforter! - but with it also came the responsibility to carry the way of Jesus forward. Using Acts 17 and 18, this message will challenge you to consider what you believe to be true, where you're placing the foundation of your faith and how it would change you to find those answers lacking. If churches are meant to be a safe place for people to get to know God, it starts with his followers transforming in humility. ——————— Sunday Sermons is the recorded messages from Mosaic Church in Charlotte, NC. The good news of the gospel hinges on the undeserved grace Jesus offers, as Acts 15 tells us. So why do so many churches and denominations add their own terms and conditions to following him? Why doesn't God intervene when bad things happen? Luckily for us, even when God is unpredictable, he doesn't treat us according to our belief. His presence is constant, whether or not we believe the prayers we're sending up. In Acts 12-14, we learn to hear beyond what we can see to increase trust in God's goodness. The story of Paul and Barnabas in Antioch also reminds us what happens when we root our identity in the approval and praise of other people. Have you ever wondered why you are where you are? It's not just a coincidence and it's not because “everything happens for a reason.” You're in this relationship, situation, season or struggle because God is calling you to a purpose. In this last week of our Legacy series, Pastor Naeem teaches the story of Esther, a girl who finds herself in a place she never expected, caught in a situation she didn't choose, with influence she didn't ask for. If you can relate, ask yourself “What if you're here for something bigger than yourself?” You, too, may be in that unique position for such a time as this. We like being in control because it gives us a sense of security. Control promises to remove anxiety, offer certainty and protect us from the discomfort of unknowing. But faith requires trust and believing in something that cannot be known. If you're looking for a big change in your life that feels impossible, you may be stuck by your own limitations. This message uses the vision of Ezekiel 47 to help you determine how deep your faith is. There are moments that mark us forever and memories that take us back. But it's the moments when God moves that are worth remembering - those are the moments that give us hope for the future. In Joshua 4, the Israelites built a memorial of Ebenezer stones so generations to come would remember the miracle of God how provided for them. This message will help you identify your own moments of faith: prayers that were prayed for you, a sacrifice someone made for you, borrowed belief when you struggled to find your own. You want your life to matter. One day, you'll want to look back and know that what you built, invested in and sacrificed for made a difference. But legacy isn't just about what you leave behind - it's in what you're preparing now for the future. Using the story of Nehemiah, this message will show how you are living in someone else's legacy - someone you may have never even met, but who considered their faith, sacrifice and commitment worth it to build what you would need today. The question then becomes, what kind of legacy are you building for the people who will come after you? ——————— Sunday Sermons is the recorded messages from Mosaic Church in Charlotte, NC. What are the little things that matter to you? What do you prioritize that shapes the way you live? If someone followed Jesus the way you do, what kind of faith would they experience? Jesus consistently modeled a counter-cultural set of values: people over possessions, humility over holiness, kingdom over comfort, and love over law. In this last week of our series “What We Believe” Pastor Naeem will help you understand how the words, ways and values of Jesus are an invitation to transformation. ——————— Sunday Sermons is the recorded messages from Mosaic Church in Charlotte, NC. What does it really look like to follow Jesus? Not just knowing his words, but living his way. On the night before his crucifixion, Jesus used his God-given power and authority to make a countercultural shift: kneeling to wash his disciples' feet and redefining what true leadership looks like. As we follow his example of humility, we discover that living the way of Jesus always leads to serving the people around us. Does prayer ever seem to work for everyone else but not for you? It's hard to stay hopeful when prayers go unanswered. What do we do with the moments when our prayers still leave us with silence, rejection or loss? How do we keep praying when we're exhausted, confused and worn out from waiting? The story of a Gentile woman with persistent faith in Matthew 15 will show us how to keep knocking even when Jesus doesn't respond the way we want him to. Fear can do a lot of things. It can overtake our thoughts, cause us to live anxious lives and influence the way we show up in the world. But as much as fear may try to promise us safety, what it really does is assert its control over our lives. Using King Herod's toxic masculinity as a leadership example, this message will show you how the things and people who need you to report back, comply or appease them are actually operating from a controlling, constrictive, fear based model. In Christianity, peace is often shown in niceties and conflict avoidance. But when Jesus said blessed are the peacemakers, it was about more than a passive strategy for keeping the peace. It's a call for children of God to look and act like their father when they show up in the world. Whether you're looking for inner peace, peace in relationships with other people or you're ready to create peace for the vulnerable, this message will help you tap into God's supernatural peace that transcends all understanding. The world will try and convince you to flex, be aggressive and do whatever it takes to be on top. When things go wrong, can you admit that you blame God? If it's his job to fix things and keep bad things from happening, he's due for a performance review. But what if the God we serve exists to do more than give us what we desire and need? What if the God of Christianity desires to be close in our losses? Sadness, crying and grief are not signs of weakness. They're characteristics we see in Jesus Christ and healthy parts of mourning. It's only when we allow ourselves to be weak and feel our feelings that we can experience the divine comfort of God - and learn what it means to provide it to others. God bless you is more than something we say when someone sneezes, it's what we're meant to live out. In the final week of The Book of James, Pastor Kristin unpacks James' closing words to the early church - words that still speak directly to us today. This message exposes the temptation of power that can creep into faith, and calls us back to unity, humility, and the kind of spiritual maturity that only grows in community. If you've been wandering from God, questioning what's real, or wondering if Christianity is still centered on Jesus, this message will remind you: hope isn't lost. You can trust again. James isn't just talking to Christians, he's shaking us awake. Comparison is trying to convince you to fight battles you were never meant to fight. Pride is telling you to strive for success, wealth and power. Control is tricking you into believing you have the right to judge other believers. But when worldly promises still leave you empty, James 4 teaches that humility isn't weakness. Surrendering to God really is the only way to spiritual fulfillment. ——————— Sunday Sermons is the recorded messages from Mosaic Church in Charlotte, NC.
