In this message we will look at what the Scriptures have to say about marriage, analyze concerns and questions raised in our day, overview the cultural changes that have led to many questioning the value and benefit of marriage, and do so from a Christian worldview. We will also take a look at some secular contemporary research and what it indicates. Common Reactions: 1. The culture has changed: - Married Couples comprised: 1950 — 78% of all US households 2020 — 47% of all US households - Living together before marriage: 1960's — 5% 2020's — 70% - Recent analysis of the General Social Survey data tells us Americans' happiness declined from the 1970s to the 2020s. Sam Peltzman, Professor emeritus, University of Chicago says one thing explains the most recent decline in overall happiness - the decline of marriage. The data indicates the benefit of what the Bible has said all along. Genesis 2:18 "The Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." The literal Hebrew translation for the word helper is: "Helper equal to Him." This is talking about two people who are complimentary to each other. Our Creator recognized we function better together. 2. Divorce makes me fear marriage: - the spike in divorce rate have left an impression on the generation raised in one parent households. 3. Why not just live together? - the Bible tells us to be faithful before and after marriage to our spouse. - Couples who live together: 4-5 times more likely to break up than married couples more likely to divorce once they do marry (by about 50%) higher incidence of alcohol abuse, drug abuse and domestic violence 4. How can I know the right one? "Fall in like before you fall in love." This means - find an individual who is like minded, who shares your faith, your values, your outlook on life, an individual who truly is a potential soulmate. Make sure that the person you choose as your life partner and spouse is one who holds like values and believes as you do. 5. I'm not sure marriage is for me: One does not need to feel pushed into marriage. In 1 Corinthians 7:7 Paul refers to the gift of celibacy saying, "I wish that all of you were as I am. But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that." God does not say everyone is to be married. Contemporary Research: 2 books ⁃ "The Two-Parent Privilege" by Melissa S. Kearney Professor of Economics, University of Maryland 2023 - tells us that "Americans stopped getting married and started falling behind." Her work has been printed in: Wall Street Journal New York Times National Review Atlantic Magazine She offers a "provocative, data-driven case for marriage by showing how the institution's decline has led to a host of economic woes…" She shows how children do better in a family where their parents are married to each other. ⁃ Education outcomes ⁃ Physical and mental health ⁃ Diminishes suicide possibility ⁃ Serves as a barrier to alcohol and drug use and child abuse ⁃ Impacts Teenage pregnancy and delinquency She comes at this on the basis of solid economic data and what we can see happening in our culture today. ⁃ "Get Married" by Brad Wilcox Professor Sociology, University of Virginia 2024. Also published in the following: ⁃ Wall Street Journal ⁃ New York Times ⁃ National Review ⁃ Atlantic Magazine Wilcox tells us, "When it comes to predicting overall happiness, a good marriage is far more important than how much education you get, how much money you make, how often you have sex and even how satisfied you are with your work." Pastor concludes with these thoughts: God created us, He speaks because He knows us and wants what is best for us. God invented marriage and He gives us guidance on how to have a truly blessed and God-pleasing marriage. Malachi 2:15 says, "Has not the one God made you? You belong to him in body and spirit. And what does the one God seek? Godly offspring. So be on your guard, and do not be unfaithful to the wife of your youth." Welcome back to another episode of the Allison J. Taylor LIFT Podcast. What does it take to succeed as a product manager? It's not just about building great products, but also about leadership -- piloting people, processes, and change. In this episode, Alison J. Taylor speaks with Chris Naunheimer about building and making the product and also about selling the product so that it's profitable because it fulfills an unmet need. They explore the topic through the lens of their new book Power Up Product Management, a quick-start guide that includes stories, practical exercises, and ready-to-use templates, designed to help product managers thrive in the first 90 days of their product management journey. In their conversation, Allison and Chris discuss common misperceptions about product management and share practical advice for new and seasoned product managers. They explore why success is not purely about the product, why the process is rarely linear – more chaotic, and why emotional intelligence (EQ) matters as much as IQ. They also delve into the customer, whoever is going to either use, buy, or influence the product and how critical it is to manage those stakeholders. Finally, they discuss the often-overlooked skillset that product managers should have – emotional intelligence. The reality is that you must sell people on your idea and to convince people to invest – whether it's with their physical money, emotional energy, or time and effort. Their book delves into what product managers need to know to perform successfully – the tools and the people management. Tune in now! Key Points from This Episode: • Discover why product management is about more than just the product itself. • Explore why stakeholder mapping is a critical skill for product managers to learn. • Learn why product development is rarely linear and the importance of embracing flexibility. • Find out what a common misperception is surrounding the Agile framework and how Agile may be more disciplined than the Waterfall framework. • Unpack why EQ and persuasive communication are essential skills. • Hear ways technology has impacted the development of products and processes. • Learn how AI can be a tool within product management and what it cannot replace. • Hear a real-world example of a simple tool that delivers great value and how. • Find out what Chris and Allison hope to achieve with their book. Chris Naunheimer Guest Biography: Chris Naunheimer is an adjunct faculty member and a capstone project advisor in the Masters of Product Design and Development Management program at Northwestern University. Along with a Master's of Product Design and Development Management, Northwestern University, and a bachelor's in mechanical engineering, University of Illinois, Chris has more than 20 years of experience at multi-national Fortune 500 industrial companies with leadership roles in engineering, R&D, strategic marketing, new product ventures, and user-centered design. Chris holds 25 patents and brings this innovation and continuous improvement mindset to teaching. This mindset, coupled with his user experience, design education, and industry experience, brings a broad cross-functional skill set to his roles at Northwestern University. Chris is passionate about design and has a deeply held belief that we can use design to develop insights and solutions that can change people, cultures, and the world. Tweetables: “One of the most common misperceptions about product management is that product management is all about the product.” — Chris Naunheimer [0:01:59] “The user, the customer, or whoever is going to either use, buy, or influence the product; those stakeholders are critical. And if you want to be a good product manager, that's part of what you have to manage.” — @allisonthought [0:05:01] “Product and product development can be very, very chaotic. It doesn't always follow a linear path.” — Chris Naunheimer [0:06:45] “Agile adds complexity as much as it is helpful for pivoting in smaller increments.” — @allisonthought [0:12:54] “One of the motivations for us even writing this book is to be able to help other people. And that's why we created it. I like tools like that.” — Chris Naunheimer [0:26:50] “We put the stakeholder map in the book to make sure product managers were aware of what potential bumps could occur. Who is the team that you're going to work with and make sure they're inspired, they're understanding why, and they're motivated, not just informed.” — @allisonthought [0:15:20] Links Mentioned in Today's Episode: Chris Naunheimer on LinkedIn Thought Marketing LLC Power Up Product Management Strava Kool Stop Email Listener feedback to info@thoughtmarketing.com Allison J. The Orthodox Faith has a word describing the Incarnation that saves us all. That word is kenosis which is the self-lowering of the Word of God, by His own will entirely, that we may be raised up again. As we once again set the eyes of our soul to see Him in His Passion tonight, we consider many of the wondrous revelations from the prayer service of the Stations of the Cross showing forth just how far Christ our God lowered himself so that we might Ascend.

Are they killing others or really killing themselves?'For Whom The Bell Tolls' by Ernest Hemingway is a fictional account of an American dynamiter behind fascist lines during the 1936 Spanish Civil War. He must blow up a bridge and enlists the help of a Republican guerilla group living in the mountains. He falls in love with a girl, encounters difficulties with the leader & ultimately must make do in a tough situation. It switches between narration & internal dialogue but still kind of is in 3rd person throughout. ESPN, once upon a time, was the only place where all kinds of people could come together and enjoy the commonality of sports in its purest form. Those days are long over. As Los Angeles Dodgers phenom Shohei Ohtani becomes the first baseball player to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases, the worldwide leader in DEI sports pushes this accomplishment aside to promote the woke WNBA. However, Caitlin Clark seems to be an afterthought. Will these women ever let Clark off the WNBA plantation? Last night's Thursday Night Football game brings unwanted attention as a potential drama sparks between the New York Jets' star quarterback and head coach. Also, longtime devout believer and Hall of Fame NFL coach Tony Dungy reprimands Kamala Harris' recent comments about faith and abortion. Have no fear, though, Kamala and black women everywhere can sleep easy at night knowing that Ryan Clark won't stand for anything less than the worship of these yass queens. Some people relate to trauma. Some to grief. But everyone will admit to disappointment, even if you're a chronic minimizer like me. We're not here to exaggerate and inflate anything, and nobody wants to give attention to disappointment so it limits them. That however is my concern. Are we healthfully dealing with disappointments or are we repressing unresolved feelings that are in fact, limiting us? You may be CEO of your company and clearing a million per year, and have unresolved disappointments, from your childhood or last year, limiting you. Maybe they are limiting your performance. Your income. Your relationships. Your fulfillment despite your achievements. This was my focus as I entered into the following discussion with acclaimed grief educator and multiple best selling author, Christina Rasmussen. Christina studied to become a therapist and crisis intervention counselor - even doing her master's thesis on the stages of bereavement, and thought she understood grief. Then, with daughters nine months and two-and-a-half years old, her 31 year old husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer and passed away. It was then she truly grasped the depths of sorrow and pain that accompany loss. Four years after Christina's husband died she created the Life Reentry process, which launched her on a mission to bring compassion, grace, and validation to thousands, while simultaneously establishing an exit from what she termed the Waiting Room. She wrote the book, Second Firsts that became a bestseller. Then, Where Did You Go? Her new book and our muse here is Invisible Loss: Recognizing and Healing the Unacknowledged Heartbreak of Everyday Grief. She's taken her experience and research from severe and tragic loss and brought the same, profound process of healing into our everyday grief and disappointments. She found that it's not the size of the big trauma or little disappointment that matters, but the resolution, and she has a process to help us work through it. Christina is a pure joy. I'm in Florida and just received autographed copies of her book, signed to my mom Joanne, who is just four months past my Dad's death. This inspiring conversation will light up your day. Climate change is disrupting China's tea industry. The country is the world's leading producer of tea leaves, but this year, spring harvests fell by 20%, according to official figures. What's more, the taste of the national beverage is also changing – the consequences of last summer's drought. Lou Kisiela, Antoine Morel, Yan Chen and Yena Lee bring us this report from Hangzhou, China.
In our Mysticast conversation with Charlie Ziese—comfortably seated within his homemade 6 foot pyramid—we discovered that building pyramids and harnessing/radiating the energies that the shape creates would cure the ROOT of all the problems that humanity faces on Earth today. www.stargatepyramids.com Charlie's extensive research has proven to him that if humanity embraced Shape Power technology then ‘everything would start to heal' Health - Enhance Immune function, speed of healing, reduction of stress and violent behaviour, reduction of cancer and tumours, and enhanced physical endurance Agriculture - Storing Seeds Inside Russian Pyramid Increases Crop Yields, Eliminates Pesticides and Make Crops Drought Resistant Environment- • Regenerates extinct plant species • Creates new streams • Purifies contaminated water of heavy metals and radioactivity • Creates powerful, far-reaching energy field and spontaneous charging of capacitors • Diminishes earthquakes and severe weather • Repairs the ozone layer This mirrors what we were told by Dr.King in a lecture he gave in 1973. “There is only one energy Crisis on Earth and that is The Spiritual Energy Crisis” The primary energy crisis on Earth today is the spiritual energy crisis. If this crisis were solved, no other energy crises would exist. The problem, as Dr. King has explained it, is that people put their “gross physical energy desires” before their “spiritual energy needs” The Spiritual Energy Crisis (Download) - The Aetherius Society QUESTION: If Spiritual Energy is the root cure and the pyramid is a shape that can harness and radiate these sacred life force energies why did we stop building them? On this episode of THE FINANCIAL COMMUTE, host Chris Galeski invites Wealth Advisor Kevin Rex to discuss how time has decreased the value of money. Chris and Kevin agree that many products and services have gotten much more expensive over the years. For example, food and real estate have generally increased in price over time- and the best way to combat inflation is to invest with a long-term mindset. Because interest rates have increased, many people have been investing in treasuries which can be a great short-term investment; however, treasuries typically do not appreciate enough to keep up with inflation. Chris and Kevin recommend listeners to investigate owning commodities like gold and investing in real estate and stocks, as history shows these assets do increase in value over time and can help increase one's purchasing power. SCARCITY DIMINISHES POSSIBILITIES | Mindset Mastery with Host AZ Araujo Making minor moves prepares you for bigger moves in the future, but if you're afraid to take those small steps, you limit your possibilities. Once a decision is made, it becomes your standard, so it's important to make decisions in alignment with your bigger vision. To grow, big moves are required, but that doesn't mean going outside your area of expertise. You must create processes and systems to support your business long-term and invest in it before pursuing other avenues of income. You're not in the game to be comfortable; being comfortable erodes everything you've created. Top producers outperform by making big moves while others are still pondering. You become better when your standard is constantly challenged, and making a move now is crucial to achieving the quality of lifestyle you ultimately want. You can't have a scarcity mindset and think about growth at the same time. Investing in yourself and your business is always the best investment. You must demand more from yourself and create more for yourself to move up a level. By doing so, you become a more fulfilled person in alignment with your ultimate vision. NOTABLE QUOTES: "You can't be in a scarcity mindset and in an abundant mindset at the same time." "You become better when your standard is constantly challenged. Your job is just to pull the trigger, and that now becomes your new standard." "How do top producers outperform where they were at this time last year? They made moves. They made the big moves, while you're still pondering." "You have got to make those moves. Yes, it's going to be uncomfortable, but as soon as you make those decisions, it becomes your new standard." QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER: - How can making minor moves prepare you for bigger ones in the future? - Why is it crucial to make moves that align with your bigger vision? - How can you challenge your current standard to constantly improve and become the best version of yourself? Dr. Sherry McAllister is a practicing chiropractor and President of the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress which recently commissioned a Harris Poll about physical and mental health. One of the most concerning findings was that the link between physical and mental pain was strongest in survey participants 35-44 years old. Geographic location was also a factor, as was the sharp difference in how men and women respond to pain. Treating the mind and the body is essential for good health, and F4CP promotes guidelines that emphasize that non-pharmaceutical options for pain treatment should be the first choice, not the last resort. Sherry explains, "What we learned was that half of the US adults, just about 44%, actually reported that they had experienced physical pain that they believe was worsened due to mental or emotional pain. We now know there's a link between mental health and physical pain. It's been well-established in the healthcare community. Still, the past two years have really broadened the public's understanding of this association and how managing one condition without treating the other can be counterproductive." "I think we need to identify and we need to manage all the root causes of conditions that really create havoc in the bone, the nervous system, the muscle, and the mind. And I think when we look back at that Harris Poll, it'll hopefully remind us and inspire healthcare professionals that they can approach every patient holistically to help them achieve their optimal goal. And that's kind of where I sit. If you want to learn more about mental-physical health connections, we have a fantastic book. It's called Depression, Dopamine, and Drug-Free Interventions: How Chiropractic Care Is Supporting Mental Health, and we can share that with you." @F4CP #ThinkChiropractic #ChiropracticCare #Chiropractor #MentalHealth #PhysicalPain Find Sherry's podcast, Adjusted Reality, where you get your podcasts F4CP.org Download the transcript here

Following the podcast episode with Kamini Desai, in which she introduces us to the art of Yoga Nidra, we are now superexcited to share with you a free Yoga Nidra gift from Kamini Desai as a special treat for you this holiday season. If you are in need to slow down, take a break from the ongoing festivities or upgrade your resilience – here is your perfect how to. What is Yoga Nidra? Yoga Nidra, known as the 'Yogic sleep' is an ancient practice that invokes deep relaxation and calmness of the heart, mind and soul. In our latest podcast episode with Kamini Desai we have been introduced to the beautiful art of Yoga Nidra and what makes it a spiritual practice. As the year is drawing to a close we are offered with opportunities to stand still and allow ourselves the space for contemplation of what was, what is and what will become. The benefits of Yoga Nidra Yoga Nidra is a wonderful tool to support us through these times of digestion and processing. Originally a nyasa meditation practice (the practice of moving of consciousness through the different body parts retaining prana) from traditional Tantra Yoga, it has profound healing effects on the body, mind, and soul. Yoga Nidra guides practitioners into a deep state of relaxation putting the practitioner into a space between the alpha and theta state. This allows us to rest in deep relaxation, a state between waking and sleeping, a state that calms the autonomic nervous system that we need to regulate our body's processes and that take place without a conscious effort. In addition, it puts the parasympathetic nervous system into a deeper resting state. A calm nervous system is the state we want to act and live from at all times. Yoga Nidra offers a great variety of benefits that we have listed for you below: Improved thought patterns and reduced stress Enhanced cognitive performance and memory Improved self-esteem and confidence Better sleep Improved waking mindfulness Diminishes symptoms of anxiety and depression Treats chronic pain and post-traumatic stress disorder Lowers blood pressure Reduces addiction Enhances creativity Reduces PTSD Strengthens immune system Recharges vital energy Strengthens the endocrine system Reduces the need for pain medication ...and many many more Weaving Yoga Nidra into our every day over a certain period of time helps us greatly to meet the external and internal challenges of life from a space of calm, hope and ease, allowing us to look at the bright side of life rather than through a sense of stress and contraction. Kamini Desai is offering us a beautiful Yoga Nidra practice to enjoy in the safe environment of your home. Enjoy!
In this podcast Dr. Rodney and Karen talk about the health and longevity benefits of cold exposure. This practice definitely gets most of us out of our comfort zone. Here are a few of the reasons to give it a try:1. Raises your metabolic rateThis has to be one of the most compelling because cold exposure increases your BAT - Brown Adipose Tissue which in turn increases your metabolic rate. That means you can eat more without gaining weight and have more energy. 2. Improves fat burningCold exposure ramps up fat burning as the body makes the attempt to keep your body warm. Some have even called it a "weapon" to combat obesity. Are you ready to turn the thermostat down a few degrees?3. Boosts glycemic control and insulin sensitivityWhen you activate BAT it can increase blood glucose so that it is burned as fuel or stored as glycogen (for use later) rather than fat. When insulin sensitivity goes up it improves metabolic health and has an anti-diabetic effect. 4. Diminishes inflammation and painCold exposure is often used to alleviate musculoskeletal pain and inflammation in conditions like arthritis and fibromyalgia. In one study, participants with inflammatory arthritis who took a two-minute cold shower each day for a week experienced significant reductions in pain. Cold exposure leads to vasoconstriction and reduces blood flow, which in turn reduces inflammation in tissues within and around injured sites. 5. Boosts moodResearchers believe these beneficial effects may be tied to cold exposure initiating an endocrine response and increasing hormones like cortisone, epinephrine, norepinephrine, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC),and endorphins. On top of that, cold exposure may activate the body's own pain control system.6. Promotes better sleep qualityCooler temperatures (between 60 and 67°F) help lower core temperature, which facilitates sleep. Also, body temperature is a strong driver of circadian rhythms. In fact, similar to light, temperature is one of the environmental cues that's able to reset the body's circadian clocks. Turn down the thermostat or take a cold shower.7. Raises alertness & sharpens focusA cold shower can wake you and your body up, promoting a higher state of alertness. The cold also stimulates deeper breathing, helping increase oxygenation of the body's tissues.8. Builds resilienceAs you get acclimated to the cold your stress response (fight or flight) is blunted after repeated exposure. This is what hormetic stress is all about—exposure to small, transient stress leads to adaptation. This improved stress tolerance applies then to other areas of life through greater willpower and remaining cool-headed.9. Enhances cognitive functionConsidering the benefits on hormones (both stress & feel-good chemicals) and the enhancement in resiliency, it should not surprise you that cold exposure can also be good for the brain leading to better brain function. Repeated cold exposure is likely to be beneficial and neuroprotective because it regulates the release of inflammatory cytokines and nitric oxide.10. Connects to your true selfCold exposure therapy builds mental toughness and provides a place where your worries disappear. As you learn to control your breathing your mind clears and focus ensues. You just might also find yourself.Get started with cold exposure:Turn down the thermostatCold and contrast showersCold-water immersion (e.g., cold pools, ice baths, etc.)Go outside in cold temperaturesFollow us on Instagram and Facebook.

While we always crave more free time, it may not be as "good" for us as we think. Tune in today to learn how free time affects your happiness. Transcript: Welcome to Everyday Happiness where we create lasting happiness, in about 2 minutes a day, through my signature method of Intentional Margins® (creating harmony between your to-dos and your priorities), happiness science, and musings about life. I'm your host Katie Jefcoat and I read an article in the Washington Post about having too much time on your hands and how it can affect your happiness. The article starts out with the premise, a situation we've all been in, I'm sure. “Have you ever had one of those days — that turned into weeks — when you had approximately 645 things to do and not a single minute for leisure time? Like many of us, Cassie Mogilner Holmes sometimes feels as if she lives in that state. She also — and this will probably sound familiar — has entertained the idea of trading all those obligations for a deserted island.” That seems pretty spot on. Holmes, a professor at UCLA did some research about whether leaving it all behind for a deserted island will actually make people happier, and, spoiler alert, the answer is no. But what's fascinating is that according to the science, “an individual's well-being increases in correlation with their free time — but only to a certain point. Although having too little free time isn't healthy, having too much also diminishes well-being.” This is why I believe Intentional Margins® are so important. It's not the deserted island, but instead the buffer of space and time to live in your priorities, including sleep, reading a book, meditating, anything that you enjoy in your free time. We were not meant to be stuck on the hamster wheel of todos, that's not how we were intended to live. We were meant to live in connection with other humans and have harmony in how we spend our limited time. Until next time, I invite you to do something just for you today. Take a short walk, take some deep breaths, call a friend or message me on social media. We actually respond to our messages. We're over @everydayhappinesswithkatie And remember, kindness is contagious. Inspired by this article in The Washington Post, Why having too much free time can be as bad for you as having too little.
