Before we did the research on Roblox, we honestly thought it was just a simple video game. Most parents probably do. But the reality is far more complicated. Roblox is a massive gaming platform with millions of user-created games inside it. Anyone can build a game, and kids can jump in and play — which means there's essentially no real regulation. And because kids are kids, they don't always recognize what's happening. Groomers often pretend to be the same age as the child they're interacting with, and they know exactly how to move conversations off the platform where they can't be traced. These people are highly skilled at what they do, which is why parents need to know what's really happening behind the scenes. We created a guide to help you navigate it all at https://www.thecommonparent.com/.This podcast is presented by The Common Parent. This episode starts with a familiar scene. A role opens, the applications pour in, and suddenly you're staring at a mountain of resumes that deserve real attention but arrive faster than anyone can process. The mix had everything… experienced candidates, newcomers trying to break in, and a growing stack of AI-generated submissions that looked sharp until you asked a second question. That's where Haystack came in. Instead of using AI as a blunt filter, Rob and the team treated it like a collaborator. Teach it what matters. Teach it what P3 looks for in a teammate. Teach it how to separate real signal from polished noise. What came back wasn't a robot recruiter. It was clarity. And Haystack is only half the story. As the conversation unfolds, Rob and Justin zoom out into the broader pattern they're seeing across all the small, useful agents taking shape inside P3. The stuff that isn't blind hype. The stuff that quietly fixes overloaded parts of the business and makes the human decisions easier to get right. Because that's the through-line here. When AI handles the overflow, people get to spend their time on the work that actually requires judgment. Queue it up and hear what happens when AI stops pretending to be magic and starts doing real work. And if you've got a corner of the business that's begging for that kind of clarity, we can help you find the tiny build that changes everything.

I hope people are sitting-up and paying attention to what BusinessNZ is saying today. Especially the people who have their heads in the sand about our ability as a country to keep paying for things like healthcare and pensions. Because, as BusinessNZ puts it, we don't have enough people to keep on doing that and we need a lot more people. As one headline today says, New Zealand needs 10 million people to stay afloat. BusinessNZ says we need twice as many people just to keep the lights on. For several reasons. For starters, in 20 years' time we'll have a labour shortage of 250,000 people. And unless we bring a truckload more people into the country, we won't have enough workers to do the work. But also, we won't have enough workers paying tax to pay for the likes of healthcare and the pension. That's why I hope people are paying attention. Because, if we think we can keep on keeping on, providing the same services and doing things like dishing out the pension to anyone and everyone just because they turn 65, then we have to either stop doing that or somehow find a way to keep doing it. If BusinessNZ was a political party, it wouldn't last five minutes, because the stuff it's saying today is the stuff that doesn't win elections. But it's the stuff we have to listen to and accept. Example: raising the retirement age. If we are going to be five million people short of being financially viable as a country, we're all going to have to keep on working longer. Most politicians are too scared to say that, but it's true. Or if we still want to retire at 65, we're going to have to pay for it ourselves. Again, most politicians are too scared to say that, but it's true. Now I'm not talking about this happening next week or next year. I'm saying that it's inevitable that, at some point, we are going to have to accept that everyone retiring at 65 and everyone getting the state-funded pension is a thing of the past. Because we can't afford it. Which is why BusinessNZ is also saying today that we're going to have to start putting more into our KiwiSaver. That's another no-brainer. Because, if we're in a position where we need to double the population just to keep the place running, then we need to change how we do things. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Hello to you listening in Sayville, New York!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga. The other day I was talking with my longtime friends, colleagues and brainstormers, Tania and Leanne, about times when we set out to achieve X but an unintended, better-than-expected Y happened. You know what I mean: the mystery of unintended consequences that turns out to be amazing! Here's one: The Scottish biologist Alexander Fleming was working on a project on Staphylococcus bacteria at St. Mary's Hospital in London. He took off on vacation leaving behind an uncovered petri dish of bacteria. When he returned he saw a blue-green mold (like what you might find growing on bread exposed to moisture) growing on the dish and that the Staph bacteria were being killed in the area of the mold. Fleming - knowing a good thing when he saw one - identified the mold as the fungus penicillin notatum, and Shazaam! developed penicillin as an antibiotic. Fleming's unintended discovery of penicillin revolutionized the treatment of infections.Click HERE to learn more about the Discovery and Development of Penicillin 1928-1945Now, as to the moldy bread in your kitchen. Yes, penicillin is an antibiotic produced by a fungus called Penicillium notatum. Yes, this fungus is commonly found on moldy bread. Yes, when the fungus grows on bread, it releases penicillin into the surrounding environment.Let me caution you! Not all moldy bread contains penicillin. Moreover, eating moldy bread is a very big “No! No!” as it can contain harmful substances. Having said that think twice before you toss out what might be an unintended answer to a problem. Question: When did you set out to achieve X but an unintended Y turned out to be what you were looking for? What happened next? You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" On this episode of Mind the Gap, Tom Sherrington and Emma Turner are joined by Mike Hobbiss - teacher, researcher, and author - to dive into the science of attention and what it means for everyday teaching. Mike shares what he uncovered during his PhD and subsequent research about attention in real classrooms (and that its main detractors are peers, mind-wandering, background noise, and phones) and why seating, routines, and explicit expectations matter. The trio unpack how to cue attention in space (gestures and precise directions) and in time (test expectancy and the “forward testing” effect), arguing that managing attention is a social-justice issue that can help level the playing field. They contrast primary and secondary contexts, debate rows vs. groups, and explore how teachers can use research without drowning in excess workload, but mostly, they just want you to pay attention! Mike spent 8 years teaching Psychology, both in the UK and abroad, before taking time out of the classroom to complete a PhD investigating attention and distraction in everyday environments, focusing especially on classrooms and other educational settings. He has published research on attention, distraction, memory and mood in educational settings, as well on teacher habit formation. Back in the classroom since 2020, he is currently Head of Psychology at a school in Lincolnshire. He is the author of How to Teach Psychology: An evidence-informed approach and you can find his blog at https://hobbolog.wordpress.com/Tom Sherrington has worked in schools as a teacher and leader for 30 years and is now a consultant specialising in teacher development and curriculum & assessment planning. Guest Christopher Schaberg, PhD., is the Director of Public Scholarship at Washington University in St. Louis, as well as a founding editor of Object Lessons, a book series on the secret lives of ordinary things. Chris is the author of ten books, including one really good one on fly-fishing. Summary In this wide-ranging conversation, Chris reflects on curiosity, confusion, and the value of paying attention to small things. He begins by adapting Norman Maclean's line from A River Runs Through It—“Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it.” by suggesting that “confusion” or “mystery” runs through his own life and work—a reminder that lingering in uncertainty can be a fertile state for creativity and learning. Chris also discusses his fascination with airports, where he once worked, and how those complex spaces became both a professional subject and metaphor for human experience. He also explores his “Object Lessons” book series, which celebrates the hidden lives of ordinary things, and his broader intellectual project of focusing on the small, the local, and the limited—an intentional counterbalance to a culture obsessed with scale, speed, and expansion. This theme carries through his writing on fly fishing, Adventure: An Argument for Limits, and Little Data, all of which urge closer attention to what's near, tangible, and often overlooked. As director of public scholarship, Chris works to help academics communicate their research clearly and meaningfully to general audiences, fostering what he sees as a moral imperative for universities: to re-engage with the public in accessible, authentic ways. He and I also reflect on teaching, the challenges of student preparation, and the evolving role of curiosity in an AI-driven age. Chris closes by describing fly fishing not as an escape but as a way to recenter attention and rediscover connection—with nature, with others, and with himself. The Essential Point Chris's essential insight is that confusion and uncertainty are not obstacles but opportunities—spaces where curiosity deepens, learning expands, and meaningful connections between art, scholarship, and everyday life emerge. “The best essays leave you more puzzled about a topic in a constructive way. It's okay to be confused—linger there.” Social Media https://www.linkedin.com/in/christopher-schaberg-812923282/

Today we look at a relatively ugly day for the market, although the huge ugly sell-off in US regional banks was only one aspect bringing down overall sentiment, which looks suddenly rather shaky relative to what was a modest decline in the major indices. From a fresh big rally in US treasuries to a considerable spike in the VIX and crypto turning south once again, this market looks terribly nervy even as AI deal noise kept sentiment bubbly in places. Today's weekly close looks important for how sentiment shapes up as earnings season hits full stride next week even if it might be trumped by geopolitics, as discussed on today's pod, which is hosted by Saxo Global Head of Macro Strategy John J. This episode is not for clicks it's for clarity, conviction, and compassion. In honor of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, Izzy revisits one of the most intense and necessary conversations from Season 5 this time with a sharper lens, deeper vulnerability, and real-world commentary on what's changed (and what hasn't) since that original question was first posed: Is suicide selfish?Izzy opens up about his own past thoughts of unaliving, the pain of losing a close friend in 2021, and the quiet desperation that lives inside so many young men today. We explore Kevin Hines' powerful survival story after jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge and why so many people are silently begging to be seen, not saved by a sermon or a hot take, but seen in their struggle.Throughout the episode, Izzy also unpacks how rejection, isolation, and financial pressure weigh heavily on Black men, even when there's no diagnosed mental illness. When therapy feels inaccessible or "not for us," some brothers turn to AI like ChatGPT for answers, or worse, they retreat in silence. There is also an intense conversation about suicide pods and the financial stress that leads men to "hitting licks". This episode challenges that. With moments of honesty, comedy (because we need to breathe), and gut-punching truth, Izzy poses questions that demand soul-searching: Do we truly check in on the "strong" friends? Are we calling out for help without knowing it? Is our silence costing someone else their life? If you've ever wrestled with the thought, “Do I belong here?” — this episode is your reminder that you do. You're not alone. On today's episode of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words,” Hanson explains the phenomenon known as a “total systems collapse,” in which a society metaphorically implodes when it casts aside values like common sense and meritocracy and replaces them with diversity, equity, and inclusion as the base for society. “ We are a very sophisticated society. We require meritocracy, empiricism, credentials. And we have very sophisticated transportation, education, health care, etc., etc. And if we don't follow the norms that gave us that prosperity, security, and freedom, then the system starts to break down. And we've seen the indices of that. “ We saw that same systems collapse with the tragic killing of Iryna Zarutska. And everything went wrong. First of all, why would you enter a light-rail car without having to have a ticket? This was an honor system. It encouraged people to abuse the system—to think that you really don't have to pay anything for a free ride. It said you couldn't have a concealed weapon, but what does that mean when you don't even have security to check people? You can't stop and frisk people, apparently, anymore. She came in there and there were four people around her, including the assailant. He killed her. But what kind of society is it where the four people adjacent, behind her just walk by her—watch the killer commit this horrific act of cutting her throat. And then after he leaves and he mutters, “Got the white girl,” then they don't do anything. They didn't do anything to stop it. They didn't do anything, just to walk a few feet over, a foot over, and try to help her in her death throes. What ideology is that that allows that to happen?

What happens when a theologian and an evolutionary biologist walk into a lab together—one asking questions about God through the strange world of microbes, the other studying the tiny ecosystems in our armpits and sourdough starters? In this episode, we hear the answer through the story of Aminah Al-Attas Bradford, a theologian who found herself researching yeast in the ecology lab of Rob Dunn, a biologist known for uncovering the microbial life all around us. Their collaboration leads to surprising questions about dust, microbes, matter, and meaning, and shows what can happen when science and theology meet in the middle in curious, unshielded conversation.
