Ask Boldly, Lead Wisely: Lessons from Solomon's Prayer for Wisdom

In this episode, Matthew Balentine takes us deep into the heart of 1 Kings 3, where Solomon is offered a blank check from God: “Ask for whatever you want.” Instead of asking for power, wealth, or comfort, Solomon makes a surprising choice—he asks for wisdom. Through this powerful story, Matthew explores how our prayers reveal our priorities, how boldness and humility can coexist in our conversations with God, and why wisdom is the key to fulfilling our calling. Drawing from personal reflections and biblical insight, this episode challenges listeners to reconsider what they ask God for—and encourages them to pursue prayers that align with God's purpose, not just personal comfort. Key Topics: Solomon's bold yet humble prayer in 1 Kings 3 How our requests to God reveal our true priorities The connection between wisdom and purpose Why God delights in prayers that bless others The temptation to want results without the journey Encouragement to pray for character over comfort God's promise to give “immeasurably more” (Ephesians 3:20) Living in the answer: Walking in wisdom every day Whether you're seeking clarity in your calling, struggling with what to pray for, or simply wanting to grow deeper in your faith, this episode will inspire you to approach God with both confidence and purpose.

What can we learn about God through the questions Jesus asked the religious leaders, the crowds, and His disciples? In the ancient world, few virtues were more revered than wisdom. In the biblical Hebrew culture, wisdom was considered the skill to live well, or more precisely, a wise person was an expert in godly living. According to James, wisdom has little to do with IQ, SAT scores, or education. Wisdom is different from knowledge. Rather, true wisdom is the right application of knowledge. In this passage, James showed the difference between true and false wisdom with four notable traits.I. Wisdom Is Practical (v. 13a)II. Wisdom Is Humble (v. 13b)III. Wisdom Is Spiritual (vv. 14-16)IV. It's one thing to be tested on the outside (trials); it's another thing to be tested on the inside (temptation). God may allow temptations in order to strengthen our faith. But Satan desires to tempt us to weaken our faith. In C. S.
