Larry Ostola speaks with William E. Moreau about his book, The Writings of David Thompson, Volume 1. Between 1784 and 1812, David Thompson explored and traded across much of western North America, from Athabasca to the Missouri and from Lake Superior to the Columbia River's mouth. In his later years, he recounted these experiences in his autobiographical work Travels. More than just a personal narrative, Travels blends geographic exploration with intellectual reflection, offering insights into the land and Indigenous peoples he encountered. This distinguished work combines scientific observation with vivid storytelling, capturing Thompson's curiosity and deep sense of wonder. It stands as a foundational text in Canadian literature and history. The boxed set referenced includes the two companion volumes of Travels published in 2009 and 2015. It features a new transcription of Thompson's complete manuscript, critical annotations, historical and textual introductions, biographical appendices, and maps—both historical and modern. With an updated edition and a new preface by geographer John Warkentin, it remains the definitive scholarly reference for Thompson's legacy and continues to introduce his work to new generations. William E. Moreau is a teacher with the Toronto District School Board and a sessional lecturer with the University of Toronto at Scarborough. Rev. David Thompson was preacher for this service. 1 Corinthians 15:1-8: Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.

In 1975, the University of North Carolina basketball team were being led by two men... A 44 year old coach named Dean Smith, and a 19 year old Freshman Point Guard by the name of Phil Ford. The two of them were about to change the program forever. The ACC tournament was Ford's coming out party as he averaged 26 points a game and was named the MVP of the conference tourney as he helped the Tar Heels shock David Thompson and the defending champion Wolfpack in the finals to advance to the NCAA Tournament. Ford would go from there to have one of the greatest four years in UNC basketball history finishing as the school's all-time leading scorer. As it turns out, this kid was golden as well. Playing for Smith again, he guided Team USA to a Gold Medal win in the 1976 Olympics. His junior season he led the Heels to the Final Four and the title game as a consensus first team All-American and in his final season, he once again was a first team All-American before winning the coveted John R. Wooden Award given out to college basketball's top player. When he done, #12 would hang from the rafters and he still to this day is the $4 all-time leading scorer in North Carolina basketball history. An eye injury would derail his promising NBA career which started as the #2 pick of the Kansas City Kings. He would finish his first year as the NBA Rookie of the Year and was well on his way to a long professional career before his vision was forever altered. His playing days over, Ford would return to Chapel Hill in 1988 as an assistant coach under Dean Smith and in 1993 was on his staff for Smith's 2nd national title and first since another freshman sensation by the name of Michael Jordan won it all in 1982 for the Tar Heels. Ford would stay with Smith until he retired and then another three seasons before leaving in 2000. He tells us on the Past Our Prime podcast how much he loved and admired Coach Smith and how his spiritual guidance may have saved his life. He talks about that sensational ACC Tournament that in 1975 that led him to being on the cover of Sports Illustrated and how a year later he was one of 4 UNC players to bring home an Olympic gold medal for the USA. And he talks about the famous "Four Corners" offense that Coach Smith came up with, and Ford helped him perfect. Before there was an Air Jordan, there was Phil Ford... the best point guard in the University of North Carolina's history and one of the best ever to do it... and he shares his insights and stories with us on Past Our Prime. Frank Fratello used to consider money an “evil secret” in jury selection. Then he got a $2.5 million verdict.Fresh off the red-eye to Florida, Frank told his trial partner David Thompson about a strategy he'd learned days before from consultant Sari de la Motte at Trial Lawyers University in Las Vegas. “He was extremely excited. He's like, ‘I'm doing it.' … And he went and did it, and it was actually quite effective,” David recalls.Tune in as Frank and David – “problem-solvers” for Farah & Farah – break down the case, where they represented a young woman who required a life care plan to manage injuries sustained in a truck accident. Visiting hosts Ben Gideon and Rahul Ravipudi, they explain the selection method, which involves approaching damages gradually through questions asked at intervals. As Frank saw, jurors who would have balked at awarding the plaintiff's figure “struck themselves.” Learn More and Connect☑️ Frank Fratello ☑️ David Thompson | LinkedIn☑️ Farah & Farah on LinkedIn | Facebook | YouTube | Instagram | X ☑️ Ben Gideon | LinkedIn | Facebook | Instagram☑️ Rahul Ravipudi | LinkedIn | Instagram☑️ Panish Shea Ravipudi LLP on LinkedIn | Facebook | YouTube | Instagram☑️ Gideon Asen on LinkedIn |

Rev. David Thompson, Faith Luth. Church, San Antonio, TX was preacher for this service. Philippians 4:4-7: Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. - Devotion - Prayer - Hymn 115 - All My Heart Sings and Rejoices: vv. 1, 2, 3, 8, 15 - Blessing - Postlude Service Participants: Rev. David Thompson, Faith Luth. Church, San Antonio, TX (Preacher), Rev. Prof. Dennis Marzolf (Pianist)
The guys go freestyle for the first time all season long as Scott, Bill and Marc talk about a range of topics including the 1974 college basketball season that is about to tip off with Denny Crum's Louisville Cardinals the pre-season choice to win it all led by Junior Bridgeman. Bridgeman would go on to have a fine NBA career but did you know that in 2016, according to Forbes magazine, he was the 4th most wealthy retired athlete behind only Jordan, Beckham and Arnold Palmer? Tune in to see what made Bridgeman's net worth sore to close to a billion dollars. Elsewhere, NC State won it all shocking UCLA in the Finals and have the high-flying superstar David Thompson returning as well as Past Our Prime guest Monty Towe (4/2/24) but are without their big man Tom Burleson? Will they be able to get through the ACC and defend their title? And what about those Bruins? No more Walton as he's a Trailblazer now. What will the Wizard do for what turned into his final act? In college football, unlike present day times, Ohio State owned Michigan and beat them 12-10 behind 4 field goals from Tom Klaban, a walk on kicker who fled the Iron Curtain with his family under gunfire to become a hero in Columbus. And in the NFL, the Raiders are being led by two geniuses... Al Davis and John Madden. But will they ever get over the hump and put it all together? Lots to talk about for the week of 12/2/74 and that's what we do here on the POP podcast. Listen wherever you get your podcasts and get a glimpse of what the sports world was talking about 50 years ago each week. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Last term, the Supreme Court decided United States v. Rahimi, which built upon the text-first, history-second methodology articulated by the Supreme Court in Heller and reaffirmed in Bruen. Many hot button Second Amendment issues are percolating through the lower courts and are likely to reach this Supreme Court in the coming terms. This panel will discuss Rahimi's impact on the text and history methodology as applied to legal challenges to "gun free zones", bans on semi-automatic rifles and "high capacity" magazines, age restrictions, and restrictions on misdemeanants. The panel will also discuss several important methodological issues that are common to many Second Amendment litigations, including the debate whether 1791 or 1868 is the correct time to determine the meaning of the Second Amendment.Featuring:Prof. William Merkel, Associate Professor, Charleston School of LawMr. Mark W. Smith, Senior Fellow, Ave Maria School of Law and Host of the Four Boxes Diner Second Amendment ChannelMr. David Thompson, Partner, Cooper & KirkModerator: Hon. Arne Slot and goalscorer Dominik Szoboszlai give their reaction after Mo Salah's late penalty earned Liverpool a 3-2 win over Southampton in an eventful encounter at St Mary's. Despite leading through Szoboszlai's opener, the Reds fell behind to goals from Adam Armstrong and Mateus Fernandes, before a Salah double secured all three points, moving them eight clear of second-placed Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. In this episode we also hear from former players David Thompson, Neil Mellor and Charlie Adam, as well as supporters Abigail Rudkin, Justin Conn and Mo Stewart.

Arne Slot, Ibrahima Konaté and Alexis Mac Allister react to Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Aston Villa after goals from Darwin Núñez and Mohamed Salah secured a 15th win of the season from 17 games in all competitions and extended the Reds' lead at the top of the Premier League to five points. In this episode of The Reaction, we also hear from former players David Thompson and Neil Mellor, who joined Mark Benstead pitchside at Anfield for LFCTV's post-match show.

It's What's Inside quickly became one of my favorite films of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and I was beyond thrilled to get the opportunity to chat with director Greg Jardin and his ensemble while in Park City. But, one person was missing from the conversation and, if you've seen It's What's Inside, you well know that the film's concept hinges on every single member of the cast being able to deliver top-tier work as a unit. Thankfully, Netflix scooped up the film at the festival for a whopping $17 million and now It's What's Inside is available to stream on Netflix. That meant the missing member of the group was busy promoting this massive genre storytelling feat, and you can bet I jumped on the opportunity to chat with her. It's Alycia Debnam-Carey.Jardin's wildly impressive feature-directorial debut is a body-swap film. The night before Reuben's (Devon Terrell) wedding, he reunites his group of friends for a little pre-wedding party. When an estranged member of that friend group, David Thompson's Forbes, shows up, he has a mysterious suitcase in tow. He pitches they play a party game with its contents, a curious machine he helped design. They agree, hook themselves up to the device, and Forbes flips the switch. Suddenly, they all swap bodies. The game? Figure out who is in whose body. The tension is high across the board and every single character in It's What's Inside rocks complex layers that are fascinating to explore via the body-swap scenario. But, one particular character's situation comes with some especially high stakes because she's got a lot to lose. On top of that, who she is and what she's created has an especially heavy influence on quite a few members of the group. It's Debnam-Carey's Nikki, a hugely successful social media influencer. While celebrating It's What's Inside's release on Netflix, Debnam-Carey swung by the Collider Ladies Night studio to dig deep into Nikki's predicament and break down how the cast prepared to complete some serious acting gymnastics and craft a seamless body-swap experience. On top of that, we also took some time to look back on her journey as an artist, beginning with the recognition that she was meant to be an actor, not a percussionist. Hosted on Acast.
