We return to Wilkie Collins and early detective writing with a study of this comic story, originally published in the Atlantic Monthly back in April of 1858. Mr Yatman, a hard-working SoHo stationer, has been robbed at home and now faces financial ruin. Conditions and suspects in the crime point to a "closed circle" mystery. When the veteran Sergeant Bulmer is taken off the case, a young upstart named Matthew Sharpin takes over the investigation... in a manner of speaking. That's what we'll use this meditation for: to really listen within and hear what your emotions are wanting to tell you. We'll begin by creating a safe space within you. Then I'll guide you through a series of journaling prompts, giving you around two minutes to write after each one. Try not to think too much about what you're writing. Instead, allow it to become more like automatic writing, where you simply let the words flow. If it helps, try not to lift your pen from the paper once you've started. Just keep writing, allowing whatever wants to come through to come through.
