Paul was writing during a time of great turmoil for himself, the church, and even society with Rome being in control of the known world.Paul's reminder to the church at Rome is an apt and timely reminder to us today. He is in control, we belong to Him, and through His strength we can love others and live peaceably no matter what pressures the enemies brings into our path.

A New year, a fresh page, a fresh start. Yet there are many times during the year that we may desire to turn the page from one circumstance or another. Peter after his denial of Christ before the crucifixion would certainly have been something that he would have wanted to turn the page from; but like Peter if we are prone to make mistakes and carry our old problems onto the new page if we do not learn to turn the page God's way.

Subject: Lifeline Bible Study Speaker or Performer: Pastor Jonathan McGary Scripture Passage(s): Isaiah 7:14, 9:6-7; Micah 5:2; Zechariah 9:9 Date of Delivery: December 16, 2020 In the Beginning God Created the Heavens and the Earth in Genesis chapter 1. And before the Beginning God knew that the Crown of His creation (Man) would fall in sin and require Redemption. Before the Beginning God had a plan for that redemption, and that redemption was the future birth of God in Man’s form namely Jesus Christ. And that Jesus would needs lay down his life as the perfect blood sacrifice to pay for the pardon of Sin for all who would believe by faith and Turn in Repentance to a loving, forgiving, redeeming, God. Since the beginning (specifically Genesis chapter 2) Satan has been trying to prevent and destroy God’s plansSome Scholars believe Lucifer/Satan fell between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 - there seem to be a pause - Lucifer became aware of God’s plan for creation and rebelledOthers, including me, believe that Lucifer fell after the Creation of Man in Genesis chapter 1: realizing the significant and special relationship that God had with Mankind seeing how Man was made in God’s image and God fellowshipped with him.No matter when he actually fell, Lucifer has been trying to subvert the plan of God ever since chapter 3 when he tempted Adam and Eve to sin and they fell into sin by disobeying God.While God Knew of Satan’s betrayal, the temptation of man, and the succumbing to temptation of Adam and Eve before He He created the Heavens and the earth:God’s plan of Salvation begins to be spelled out inGenesis 3:15. The Serpent will bruise the heel of the woman’s’ s descendant, but he would crush the head of the serpent. Ever since that time - Satan has been fighting for his own survival and the prevention or destruction of the promised Savior. So begins a miraculous path of divine providential protection of the line of Christ, through God’s people all the way to the birth of the promised Savior and even to the cross.

Subject: What I Have Noticed Ch. 17 Speaker or Performer: Pastor Jonathan McGary Scripture Passage(s): Proverbs 24:16 Date of Delivery: May 22, 2020 Hey Y’all Jonathan McGary here with Pleasant Hill BaptistAnd this is another edition of what I have noticed.I have recently bought a new bicycle so that I could get some exercise while the gyms were closed and more importantly so that I could ride around the neighborhood with my children.Yesterday, my youngest asked me to ride with him. Now, he has just recently learned to ride, and on the hills in our neighborhood, he sometimes has to get off the bike and walk it up the hill. When he does this I will usually ride back and forth doing u-turns in the street so I can stay close to him but still keep pedaling and exercising. Yesterday, while riding with him, I started to make a u-turn in the street, when I heard a car coming and saw a vehicle at the last minute just as I was about to make a u-turn. I only had one hand on the bike and hit the brakes suddenly, the front brake as it turned out, The bike pitched forward as it came to an abrupt stop and I flipped head over heals over the handle bars, and I hit the ground hard. I mean I wiped out.I laid there stunned for a few seconds and then I heard a voice asking if I was ok. The vehicle was a golf cart with a neighbor and some neighbor kids. Now, I was okay, because I was turning I wasn’t going that fast, but it did hurt...but the thing that hurt most was my pride. I mean I crashed in front of this dad, a bunch of kids, and my own son. I don’t often get embarrassed but it was a ding to my pride. But as I sat there in the middle of the street with everyone watching, do you Know what I noticed?I had to get up. I was in the middle of the street after all. But I also had to get back on the bike. What is that old saying if a horse throws you off, get right back on? Well the same applies to Bicycles...and the same applies to life. Now just like in life, I didn’t have to do it by myself. My son was there...the neighbor was there and others were there..all asking if I was ok, and If I needed any help. But I was still the one that had to shake off of the hurt...of my body, and off my pride and get up.As a Christian in life we sometimes fall down, or get knocked down, and God is there to strengthen you, encourage you, and help you. Often times he directs others to you to be a help and resource to help you get back up...Psalm 145:14 says: The LORD helps those that have fallen, and those bent beneath their heavy load.but you are still the one that has to get back up.Proverbs 24:16 says: For a just fallen seven times and riseth up again...In life all kinds of things can cause us to fall down or knock us down. Sometime or another we are going to fail, we are going to fall, and despite the hurt, the pain, and the bruised pride..we must get back up. One fo my favorite lines from a movie is...why do we fall? So that we can learn to get back up. And I would add so that we learn that God will enable us to get back up. It does not matter how many times we fall down, or are knocked down. God is there to strengthen us, and encourage us, and to send encouragement to us to keep on keeping on. To persevere, to endure, to press on.

Subject: What I Have Noticed Ch. 16 Speaker or Performer: Pastor Jonathan McGary Scripture Passage(s): Ephesians 3:11-12 Date of Delivery: May 21, 2020 Hey Y’all Jonathan McGary here, with Pleasant Hill BaptistAnd this is another edition of: What I Have Noticed. My wife works in the education system, I am a pastor and and have a real heart and passion for young people, and I have 3 young children including one teenager.I am constantly around young people, who are growing and changing, and trying to figure out who they are. They deal with peer pressure, cultural pressure, parental pressure, and just overall pressure to be liked, to be popular, and are looking for confidence in where they fit in the world. Having said all that, young kids, and teenagers are not the only ones dealing with these pressures. On some level no matter what our age, we are looking to find our acceptance and our place in this life. And I hear a lot of people giving advice, like: Be yourself and be who you are, and don’t try to be anybody else but you. And do you know what I have noticed? The key to confidence in this life is not by knowing who you are, but rather by knowing WHOSE you are. Ephesians 3:11-12 says: According to the eternal purpose which he purpose sin Christ Jesus our LordIn Whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. And I Corinthians 6 - tells us that we are not our own, but we are bought with a price. If we are saved by grace we can know with confidence that We belong to God.Our identity is with Christ! We are inseparably linked to Christ! We need to know that God sees us as He sees Jesus! Because of the Shed blood of Jesus that has marked our lives. Our Heavenly Father is the King of Kings and God of god’sWe are part of the royal family. We are Son’s and daughters of God, Princes and Princesses that are join heirs with Christ because of Christ! He is beloved and we are beloved! Our God created it all, owns it all, and has power over it all.Whenever we are tempted by the the devil and sin to think of ourself as less than that, or to act like someone who is less than that, we must remember who we are in Christ and whose we are because of Christ. If we look to self, or act like self ourself, or try to be ourself...without the knowledge of our identity in Christ...we are prone to live beneath our privilege. We must find who we are, where we fit in the world, and the acceptance we desire in the world through Christ...or we are missing out. I hope you will notice what I have noticed. I pray, you will Remember who you are and whose you are and you are the precious prize of the King of the Universe. Armed with that knowledge you can live with confidence and be what God meant for you to be.Until next time, remember I love youMore importantly God loves you.Keep your eyes upon Him.

Subject: What I Have Noticed Ch. 15 Speaker or Performer: Pastor Jonathan McGary Scripture Passage(s): Matthew 5:14,16 Date of Delivery: May 20, 2020 Hey Y’all, Jonathan McGary here with Pleasant HillAnd this is another episode of: What I Have Noticed. We live in a digital age with computers, smart phones, iPads, tablets and social media. Nearly everyone has access to at least one of these type devices and Hundreds of millions, if not billions, spend at least some time on some form of social media, whether it be: Instragram, Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, Tick Tock, YouTube or some other medium. You know what I have noticed?People document all kinds of things, take all kinds of pictures and videos, share all sorts of different material, and communicating to others through their various social media platforms. Some more so than others, but not matter how much or how little, I know I do, and if you are watching or listening to this, you do as well. But Christian, what are we sharing? What are we viewing? What are we communicating? The Bible says in Matthew 5 and in verse 14: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.And then in verse 16 it says: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven. Whether you realize it or not, or intend for it to happen or not, what you do on the public forums of social media says volumes about you. Whether you are purposely using social media to minister and encourage to others, or to simply communicate, or be humorous, or informative, what you do says something about who you are. And while many people use social media as a mask that conceals who they really are, what you share, “like”, “re-tweet”, or post communicates something about you. So my question that I have asked myself, and I am asking you is this...What does your public social media practices say about you? Many of us have friends, and followers on Facebook that we have never met, and don’t really know other than through acquaintances, or social media. In many cases all you know about them is what you see on in their public online habits. If that is true than the next question is this:If the only thing someone knows about you is what they see on social media, what would they say or what do they think about you? What kind of light, or whose light are you shining?Would they know that you are a Christian? Would they glorify your God based on what they see? What if you are the only Jesus that, that person gets to see?Social media, the internet, and digital technology can certainly become a stumbling block if we allow it, it can be a magnet that drags us away from God, and not closer to him.But it can also be a wonderful tool that God can use for good, and for his Glory. I am not saying you have to put your spiritual life on display in a public way on social mediaBut Won’t you let your social media habits be one that would please the Lord and allow people to think highly of you and your testimony?I hope you will notice what I have noticed. I hope that in all you do in life you will find a way to allow your Light/God’s light in you to shine, so that others will see God in you and be drawn closer to him.Until next time, remember that I love you.

Subject: What I Have Noticed Ch. 14 Speaker or Performer: Pastor Jonathan McGary Scripture Passage(s): Matthew 6:12 Date of Delivery: May 20, 2020 Hey Y’all Jonathan McGary here with Pleasant Hill; And this is another episode of: What I Have Noticed.I have watched all kinds of people, in all kinds of places, and in all kinds of situations...And Do you know what I have noticed?People don’t always get along. This is true no matter what the circumstances, but if you pour in the added pressure of social distancing, close proximity of elongated periods of time, stay at home orders, and financial crisis, and you can end up with a pandemic of a completely different order.Angry words, hurt feelings, wrongful attitudes and actions can lead to damaged relationships that seem almost irreversibly broken if we are not careful. At the same time it can lead us to be worn down by bitterness and resentment. But there are two little phrases that often seem so elusive, yet if spoken sincerely can do a world of good to mending families and friendships. I am sorry, and Will you forgive me. Reconciliation seems to be a fairly simple concept. Someone hurts you, or maybe you hurt them, apologies take place, forgiveness is referenced and everyone lives happily ever after...right? Wrong. Why, because even if we try to forgive...we struggle to forget. Few things in this life are harder than true forgiveness...but to truly forgive we must learn to forget. To say we are to forgive and forget is easier said than done. But if we are to truly forgive, we must forget. To do that we must let go, and to do that takes a lot of perseverance and grace. Impossible some might say, and to that I say...on your own your are correct. We cannot forget on our own, and therefore on our own it is impossible to completely forgive. But it is the grace that allows us to win the day, the battle, and see the relationship restored. In God’s Word we are instructed, in fact commanded to forgive one another. And what God instructs us to do, He will always enable us to accomplish. To find the ability to demonstrate the grace of forgiving and forgetting others their wrong doings toward us and our own, we must recall the grace that has been demonstrated to us. Matthew 6:12 says during the Lord’s model prayer we are are to pray this way “and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors”in Ephesians 4:32 we are instructed to “be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”The best way to recall the strength to demonstrate the grace of forgiveness to others is to remember the grace that God has shown you and that we are to offer others. If the slights of others to our own lives seems particularly grievous, simply remember that God offers forgiveness full and free to you, despite the fact that our wrongdoings caused the torture and death of His own son! What if God treated us by the same standards and methods that we use when others mistreat us?Even though we often think that forgiving and certainly forgetting is impossible. We must realize that through Christ all things are possible, and He will give you the strength. If God can take our blackest sin and cast it into the deepest part of the sea and remember it no more...certainly he can enable us to offer forgiveness to others. Never be afraid to say: I am sorry when you might have done someone else wrong. And never be hesitant to offer forgiveness when someone has crossed a line with you. When you do, you will find a peace and joy that only God can give, and you will demonstrate the love of God to others, who may have never have found his love any other way. I hope that you will notice what I have noticed.I hope that you will trust God to give you the strength and grace to both forgive and ask for forgiveness as it is needed. As you Do I hope God will bless youUntil next time, remember I love you...more importantly remember God loves you.Keep your eyes on Him

One of the best ways to share God's message, is to share with others what God has done for you, and what God can do for them. But we must be careful that we don't paint an picture that is not rooted in reality. While God can do anything, He does not always demonstrate his power to everyone in the same way. What we can do is share these absolutes. Pastor Jonathan shares his own personal testimony in the form of 8 things God has done for Him and WILL do for everyone. He also shares 2 things that God has never done to him and will NEVER do to anyone.

The Power of Encouragement and Love

Subject: What I Have Noticed Ch. 13 Speaker or Performer: Pastor Jonathan McGary Scripture Passage(s): Matthew 22:37-39 Date of Delivery: May 15, 2020 Hey Y’all this is Jonathan McGary, Pastor at Pleasant Hill Baptist. And this is another edition of “What I have noticed”Today is Friday, May 15, and as you may or may not be aware, yesterday may oldest son had to have emergency surgery yesterday. I mention that now, only because, it was that fact, in large part at least that caused many of you to call me, text me, or message me, so that you could encourage me.And do you know what I noticed? It feels good to be encouraged! Now, everyone needs a little encouragement every now and then. Some more so than others. But we all need encouragement. I have never considered myself a person who needs many pats on the back or words of encouragement, but none the less it felt good to have people encourage me.Encouraging others is something we should all be doing.Especially in todays climate we need encouragement more than ever. Yet, it today’s social media, Covid-19 and politically charged culture, it seems that more and more we find people, even good, descent people, tearing each other down, instead of building each other up. Especially troublesome is the vitriol that we find being demonstrated from professing Christians and church members. It seems we find more hate and anger being expressed than we do love, encouragement and kindness. When I read my Bible, I don’t find any instructions, advisement, or command, to be hateful, hurtful, or mean spirited with out words or actions. What we do find is that when Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was, he said this in Matthew 22:37-39:Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. And in case you are wondering who he meant by neighbor, he meant everyone. He meant those that look like you, and have the same skin color and those who don’t or have a different skin colorThose who think like you and those who don’tThose who act like you and those who don’tThose who are in the same economic class as you and those who are not. Those who speak the same language as you and those who don’tThose who vote for the same politicians and political Ideology, and those who don’t.Those who have the same religious or faith views as you, and those who don’t.If we are going to be obedient Christians there are certain things that are true.We certainly are not going to agree with everyone about everything but we do have to learn to love others and get along. We don’t have to agree about whether to wear face mask or gloves, but we do have to love one another and get along. We don’t have to agree about whether to say at home or go back to “normal” but we do have to love one another and get along. We don’t have to vote for the same people or party, but we must still get along.

Subject: What I have Noticed ch. 12 Speaker or Performer: Pastor Jonathan McGary Scripture Passage(s): II Thessalonians 4:16-18 Date of Delivery: May 11, 2020 As I have been studying and preparing for my next part in Prophecy and Promise Series from the book of Revelation and I read again about the Rapture:The Rapture is the event that will mark the end of this present age, the church will be taken out of this present world and the 7 year Tribulation period will be ushered in.II Thessalonians 4:16 - 17 says thisFor the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord. And This is what I have noticed:There are some that have never heard about, and therefore do not know about the coming of the RaptureThere are some that have heard and do not believe in the coming of the Rapture. There are some who believe, but aren’t preparing for the impending coming of the Rapture. There are some that believe, and are trying to hold on until the coming of the Rapture. But Christian, we are to be preparing and working towards the end until the coming of the Rapture. We must prepare and work because the fields are ready for harvest - John 4:35We must prepare and work because the night is coming when no man can work - John 9:4We must prepare and work because God the Father and God the Son are working until now, and we must be about what God and His Son are about. - John 5:17Those that have not heard, are in need of being told. Those that do not believe are in need of being persuaded. Those that don’t believe Christ is coming soon, need to be alerted. Those that are just trying to hold on until He comes need to be encouraged and exhorted. The coming of the Lord and the Rapture will happen as a thief in the night...and it is going to come in the twinkling of an eye.In other words it is going to come quickly, and people are going to be caught unprepared and unaware. The Rapture is an event to be looked forward to and longed for. The Apostle John closed the book of Revelation by saying - Even so come Lord Jesus. The Verses that Paul wrote in II Thessalonians were written to the church to be a comfortII Thessalonians4:18 says: Wherefore comfort one another with these words. But we can only be comforted when we are personally prepared and doing all we can to prepare others for this coming day.So I ask you this, are you personally ready for Christ to come and the Trump to sound? And If so, what are you doing to help prepare and encourage others? If I can help you or answer any questions, I hope you will reach out to me or someone else that know you trust.

Subject: What I Have Noticed ch. 11 Speaker or Performer: Pastor Jonathan McGary Scripture Passage(s): Isaiah 35:3-4 Date of Delivery: May 9, 2020 Hey Y’all Jonathan McGary here, with Pleasant Hill BaptistAnd this is another episode of What I Have Noticed. I was riding my bicycle around the neighborhood today, and was flying down a big hill and around a curve, when a neighbor stopped me as I was climbing the next hill and said to me:Aren’t you afraid you might hit an acorn, or a dog or squirrel might run out in front of you and cause you to crash..you could kill yourself going that fast. And do you know what I noticed? Many people live their entire lives in fear.Granted their are a lot of things that might cause us to fear. Real things, legit things, and fake things. Whether it be the Coronavirus, or Asian Murder hornetsNatural disasters and man made disasters.Politics, politicians, the currently elected or those who might be elected.Wars, violence, sickness, disease, pandemic etc. Financial crisis, marital crisis, family crisis, or legal crisis. There are any number of things that can cause fear, anxiety, and worry. It seems every time we turn on the news we are being told of something new to be worried about.Fear might grip us over what might happen to us personally, or perhaps worse yet, what might happen to a spouse, a parent, or worst of all your own child. But when I read my Bible do you know what I notice? We are told over and over again...not to fear. Not to worry, not to be anxious. You might be thinking, but I am human, how can I help but worry and be fearful? That is a good question and it brings me to something else I have noticed. The Bible doesn’t just say don’t be afraid...The Bible gives me reasons why I don’t have to be controlled by my fear.God is in control. God is always in control and there is nothing outside of his control. Nothing is going to happen to me that God does not allow according to his will. Remember, Satan could not touch anything in Job’s life without God permitting it, and even then the extent of his touch was limited by God’s power. But there are times when God allows difficulty to come into your life. When that happens you need to remember reason number two that we don’t have to be afraid. God is Greater, God is bigger, God is Gianter than your fears. Nothing is bigger or mightier than God so we can look to Him and trust him. He sometimes allows things to come into your life to increase your faith and to draw you closer to him, and when we call on Him, he can say as he did to the storm on the sea of Galilea - Peace be still and bring an end to the storm,. Another reason we don’t have to be afraid even in the face of our fears, is that God will never leave us, and certainly will not leave us in the middle of our battles. But we are human and we often fall short of where we need to be, and when we give into fear, the Bible tells us what to do next. Call on God, look to Him, trust Him, run to him. Tell him of your fear and struggle. He is the Overcomer...and no matter what we face we can overcome it and have victory through Jesus Christ. The Last thing I want you to see that I have noticed. Is that when God gives you victory over your fears. Don’t belittle others for theirs. Instead Help them, strengthen them, encourage them, point them to the answer for their troubles...Jesus ChristIsaiah 35:3-4 says thisStrengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.Say to them that are of a fearful heart; be strong, fear not: behold your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; He will come and save you.I hope you will notice what I have noticed.I Hope God will bless you and strengthen you to overcome your fears.Until next time remember that I love youMore importantly remember that God loves youKeep your eyes upon him.

Israel was the Nation who was called by God's name in the Old Testament, and in the New Testament age, it is the church that is God's chosen instrument. Therefore this call to repent is a call to the church, and true believers everywhere. When the church who is called by God's name, will humble themselves and pray, and turn from their wicked ways..then God will heal our land.

There has been a lot of talk in the news and on social media about actual causes of death in America. And do you know what I have noticed?Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in America. Now you may have noticed this as well, as have many around our great nationBut...Did you know at in 2018, there were 48,344 documented suicides?Did you know the annual U.S. suicide rate increased 24% between 1999 and 2014?Did you know that suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for people aged 14-34?Now experts will tell you that the answer to combatting suicide is promoting self confidence and self worth. But do you know what I have noticed...SELF confidence is not the answer...No bear with me...I am not saying I don’t want people to lack confidence. But the source of our confidence is The KeyIf your confidence is based on self, then your confidence is subject to change based on your view of yourself. But if you confidence is rooted in Christ, and we understand how Christ sees and loves us, then there need not be any fluctuation in our level of confidence. Can I just tell you:You are specialYou are unique! You are amazing! You are loved.Whether you realize it or not, feel it or not, or acknowledge it or not, there are people in this world that do love you...but it is more than thatGod loves you!He loves you with a supreme, complete, and selfless love that will never cease or go away. Now, you might be thinking. You don’t know anything about me, How can you know that God loves me?You are right I may not know anything about you. And I certainly don’t know everything about you.But God knows everything about you. God says in Jeremiah 1:5 ...I knew you before I formed you in your mothers wombYou see..God is the one who made you and Here is what He says in Isaiah 44:24:Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb:“I am the LORD, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself,The point I am trying to make is this...You were made by GodAnd God does not make junk..he does not make mistakes. And He loves His creation...He loves you. He is the God that made the the earth and all that is on it. He made the Sky and Stars and hung them on nothing...But you are the jewel of his creation. Now You might think: but you do not know my circumstances, not my actions, not my upbringing, where I come from. You don’t know what I have done, or what I might do.And you are right...but God does. And knowing everything about you and what you have done and will do, he demonstrated His love like this.He came and died on a cross to pay for you. Why...because He loves you and wants to have a personal relationship with you. That is why you can have confidence. That is why you can have God confidence.Self Confidence can change depending on how you feel. But How God feels about you will never changeI hope you notice what I have noticed. That you are special, unique, amazing and loved.I hope that you have noticed that what you need is not self confidence but God confidence. And I hope that you will be blessed by the God that Loves youUntil next timeRemember that I love you...but more importantly remember that God loves you. Keep your eyes on Him!
